Secret Garden is a Irish-Norwegian band specialized in new instrumental music, led by the duo consisting of Irish violinist and singer Fionnuala Sherry and Norwegian composer, arranger and pianist Rolf Løvland. The group has sold over 3 million albums since having won the 1995 Eurovision Song Contest, representing Norway with the composition Nocturne.
Norway, officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a sovereign and unitary monarchy whose territory comprises the western portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula plus the island Jan Mayen and the archipelago of Svalbard. The Antarctic Peter I Island and the sub-Antarctic Bouvet Island are dependent territories and thus not considered part of the Kingdom. Norway also lays claim to a section of Antarctica known as Queen Maud Land. Until 1814, the Kingdom included the Faroe Islands (since 1035), Greenland (1261), and Iceland (1262). It also included Shetland and Orkney until 1468.
Norway has a total area of 385,252 square kilometres (148,747 sq mi) and a population of 5,213,985 (May 2016). The country shares a long eastern border with Sweden (1,619 km or 1,006 mi long). Norway is bordered by Finland and Russia to the north-east, and the Skagerrak Strait to the south, with Denmark on the other side. Norway has an extensive coastline, facing the North Atlantic Ocean and the Barents Sea.
King Harald V of the German House of Glücksburg is the current King of Norway. Erna Solberg became Prime Minister in 2013, replacing Jens Stoltenberg. A constitutional monarchy, Norway divides state power between the Parliament, the Cabinet, and the Supreme Court, as determined by the 1814 Constitution. The Kingdom is established as a merger of several petty kingdoms. By the traditional count from the year 872 the Kingdom has existed continuously for 1,144 years, and the list of Norwegian monarchs includes over sixty kings and earls.
Norway has both administrative and political subdivisions on two levels: counties and municipalities. The Sámi people have a certain amount of self-determination and influence over traditional territories through the Sámi Parliament and the Finnmark Act. Norway maintains close ties with the European Union and the United States. Norway is a founding member of the United Nations, NATO, the Council of Europe, the Antarctic Treaty and the Nordic Council; a member of the European Economic Area, the WTO and the OECD; and is also a part of the Schengen Area.
The country maintains a combination of market economy and a Nordic welfare model with universal health care and a comprehensive social security system. Norway has extensive reserves of petroleum, natural gas, minerals, lumber, seafood, fresh water, and hydropower. The petroleum industry accounts for around a quarter of the country's gross domestic product (GDP). On a per-capita basis, Norway is the world's largest producer of oil and natural gas outside the Middle East.
The country has the fourth-highest per capita income in the world on the World Bank and IMF lists. On the CIA's GDP (PPP) per capita list (2015 estimate) which includes territories and some regions, Norway ranks as number eleven. From 2001 to 2006, and then again from 2009 to 2015, Norway had the highest Human Development Index ranking in the world. Norway has topped the Legatum Prosperity Index for seven years in a row as of 2015. Norway ranks also first on the OECD Better Life Index, the Index of Public Integrity, and the Democracy Index.
Norwegian Escape Cruise Ship Video Tour and Review
See our written review of Norwegian Escape on Cruise Fever here:
Norwegian Escape is a Breakaway Plus class ship and is currently the largest in the cruise line's fleet. It's sister ship, Norwegian Bliss, is set to sail in spring of 2018. This video tour and review takes you through the 164,000 gross ton ship and highlights some of its features.
I was only able to be on the ship for a few hours before it set sail on its inaugural cruise so I'm sure some areas were left out. Next time I'm on Norwegian Escape I will be sure to check out the Haven for myself as I heard so many great things about it.

2014 Canadian Seal Hunt Exposed
Each spring, the Canadian government authorizes its commercial fishing industry to kill hundreds of thousands of baby seals. They are impaled on hooks, dragged across the ice and cut open—and their pelts are often stockpiled in a warehouse.
Our Protect Seals team works year-round to shut down the commercial sealing industry—our Canadian seafood boycott has grown worldwide, we are successfully helping to close global markets for seal pelts, and we are urging Prime Minister Harper to shut down the industry for good with a federal buyout.

Incredibly Engineered Tunnels at Sea!
From submerged passageways that are suspended and float to those that replicate a journey to the Earth’s core, here are 13 Incredibly Engineered Tunnels at Sea!

13. Transbay Tube
The Transbay Tube is a 5.8-kilometer tunnel that carries four trans-bay lines under California’s San Francisco Bay between the cities of San Francisco and Oakland. The tunnel features a maximum depth of 41 meters below sea level and is a monumental time-saver to the cities fighting traffic.
12. The Windsor Tunnel
The second busiest crossing between the United States and Canada, the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel is a highway tunnel connection Detroit, Michigan in the United States with Windsor, Ontario, in Canada.
11. Busan- Geoje Fixed Link
South Korea’s first endeavor in underwater transportation comprises of a tunnel and two bridges fusing an 8.2-kilometer link between Geoje Island and Busan. The undersea tunnel itself is 4 kilometers long.
10. Severn Tunnel
Upon completion of the Severn Tunnel running under the Severn Estuary between England and Wales, the passageway was regarded as a crowning achievement of the times. Running 3.62 kilometers under the water, this marvel is one of the oldest underwater tunnels in the world, having been built between 1873 and 1886.
9. The Channel Tunnel
According to masters of engineering, the Channel Tunnel— an architectural wonder spanning 50 kilometers— is the best underwater tunnel in the world. When contemplation for an undersea passageway is in the works, it has been said that a nation will look to the engineering of the Channel Tunnel for inspiration.
8. Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line
This next advancement in engineering is considered the fourth-longest underwater tunnel in the world. Also called the Trans-Tokyo Bay Highway, the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line connects Japan’s city of Kawasaki with the city of Kisarazu. With an overall length of 14 kilometers, it includes a 4.4-kilometer bridge as well as a 9.6-kilometer tunnel that runs beneath the bay.
7. Marmaray Tunnel
Running 76.6 kilometers long, workers spent painstaking hours in the depths of the earth’s mantle where alarming discoveries were made. Relics from the Byzantine-era along with countless other 8,000-year-old finds were recovered from the site of the European tunnel terminal in 2005.
6. Bund Sightseeing Tunnel
While some may deem Shanghai’s underwater Chinese tunnel short and sweet— slightly strange and spectacular may better fit the description. The Bund Sightseeing Tunnel spans the Huangpu River and connects Shanghai’s Bund to Lujiazui.
5. SMART Tunnel
Smart and innovative for the win— in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, engineers put their heads together to create the first combined road and flood relief tunnel. Here, the longest tunnel in Malaysia can get completely flooded and turned back into a road in just a few hours.
4. The Øresund Bridge
Merely by looking at the structure one can grasp the mastery that went into the Oresund Bridge— a combined railway and motorway bridge across the Oresund strait between Sweden and Denmark. The cabled-stayed structure runs 8 kilometers from the Swedish coast to Peberholm.
3. Seikan Tunnel
Spanning a total length of 53.8 kilometers with 23.3 of those kilometers under the ocean floor, the anomaly travels beneath the straight to connect Aomori Prefecture on Honshu Island with Hokkaido Island. Also known as Seikan Zuido, the tunnel’s concept was birthed in 1940 and construction wasn’t completed until almost 50 years later.
2. Gotthard Base Tunnel
After 20 grueling years of construction, the Gotthard Base Tunnel was completed in 2016 and swiftly stole the title from the Seikan in Japan as the world’s longest tunnel. The deepest-ever constructed, this submerged passageway runs 57.5 kilometers under the snow-capped Swiss Alps. 8,000 feet deep at its max, the tunnel required 31 million tons of displaced rock.
1. Floating Tunnels of Norway
Taking 7 ferries along the way, the 700-mile trip between the cities of Kristiansand in the south and Trondheim in the north will typically run someone 21 grueling hours. But soon, the Norwegian government proposes a 40-billion-dollar infrastructure project which aims to replace ferries with bridges, conventional tunnels, and what may become the world's first floating tunnel.

Since my last video questioning this pipe pouring water in the middle of the woods near Norway, Michigan I was able to obtain this recording of a conversation that has been edited to protect the person who forwarded it to me. This person wanted to share what he learned, but also wishes to stay anonymous. (Under Michigan law, you may record a private conversation as long as one person in the party knows it is being recorded.)
He says the last time this water was tested was back in the 70's when they wanted to use it for the city's water supply but instead drilled their own wells.. He seemed concerned about this pipe now and said he always wondered where it was located, almost as if it was folklore.. What is in the water and why haven't they tested it since the 1970's?
With Norway's plan to make Hanbury Lake a place to fish (people ARE eating the fish now) and a place to bring your kids to swim (in untested mine water).. Just a thought of what people might be concerned about.

2017 Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting
The Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting, the world’s most prestigious, gave out awards February 25 to waters from three continents. This video explores some of the history of the springs, the event and documents this year's winners.
The municipal water category was a battle of champions. The top five water winners were all former gold medalists at Berkeley Springs. Village of Montpelier, OH’s water came in first judged as the Best Municipal Water in the World. All the municipal winners are American waters and most from middle America. Emporia, KS took second place while the City of Hamilton, OH won the bronze. Metropolitan Water District of Southern California placed 4th and Independence, MO, 5th.
“The consistency in winners from year to year with different panels of judges validates the choices,” remarked perennial watermaster, Arthur von Wiesenberger. “It also speaks to the impressively high caliber of the waters entered.”
The Best Bottled Water title was so competitive that there were ties recorded for the gold, the silver and 5th place. The two gold medal winners were Zaros Natural Water from Crete and an American water, AlphaPure Springs Water, Ocala, FL. The tie for the silver medal was a pair of artesian waters:
Artesia, Crystal Falls, MI and Canadian Gold Artesian Water, Marchand MB, Canada. Svalbaroi Polar Iceberg Water from Norway placed third while another artesian water, Planet H2O Natural Artesian Water of Knoxville, TN placed 4th. Fifth place winner was Whistler Water, Burnaby, BC, Canada.
The audience was filled with water enthusiasts coming from as far as New Zealand and Norway. Eleven media judges spent hours tasting and selecting from waters sourced in 19 states, five Canadian provinces and 12 foreign countries. “There were waters from two new countries this year: Costa Rica and Fiji. They joined waters from Italy, Bosnia, Greece and Australia” said Jeanne Mozier, an event founder.
Sparkling waters are sourced from eight countries. The best sparkling water in the world was last year’s winner, Tesanjski Kiseljak, Tesanj, Bosnia tied with 2016’s silver medalist Touch Sparkling Mineral Water, Marchand, MB. Winning silver this year was Otakiri Reserve, from New Zealand. Third place was Aqua Nobel Carbonated Water from Sweden and 4th was Oro Luxury Water from Macedonia. Another New Zealand water, Antipodes Sparkling Water placed 5th.
Purified waters are a relatively new addition to the water world, often municipal systems bottling their water. This year’s winners – three of the top five – are something different. They are sourced in Toronto, Canada and based on a process that oxygenates standard water. GP8 Oxygen Water won the gold medal while Thermodx Thirst Oxygen Water and Thermodx Thirst Alkaline Water are 3rd and 4th respectively. Winning the silver was hometown Berkeley Springs Purified Water while 5th was Rain Fresh Bottled Water from Garland, TX
“It was another wonderful year for the longest running and largest water tasting in the world,” said von Wiesenberger. “Berkeley Springs is the Academy Awards of water.”
The crowd was interested in the peoples’ choice packaging competition where it was their votes that chose which of the seven entrants was the most alluring. They voted the gold by an overwhelming margin to Svalbaroi Polar Iceberg Water from Longyearbyen, Norway. A pair of New Zealand waters won the silver and bronze — Waiheke Imperial was second and Antipodes, third.
Conclusion of the daylong water tasting is the famed “water rush” where the audience is invited to take home hundreds of bottles of water sent as part of the judging. “I spent about six hours arranging all the waters in a display,” said Mozier. “The crowd spent less than ten minutes making it all disappear. It’s like a Tibetan sand mandala,” she laughed. “I was pleased to see our favorite couple from Brooklyn in the rush. Peter and Cynthia Lloyd come every year especially for the water tasting – and the rush.”
The eleven media judges selected by Klein Rone included representatives from various regional and national media including television and online magazines. They were instructed by von Wiesenberger to look, sniff and taste each water under guidelines similar to those in a wine tasting. The waters were rated for each attribute including appearance (it should be clear – or slightly opaque for glacial waters), aroma (there should be none), taste (it should taste clean), mouth feel (it should feel light), aftertaste (it should leave you thirsty for more). Waters were tasted in four separate flights over two days.
“The judges job is crucial and so is their training,” said Mozier. “We present all our judges with a diploma designating them as a Certified Water Taster.”
