Kongsberg Silver Mines / Kongsberg Sølvverk (Norway/Norge)
(EN) The silver mines of Kongsberg, in Buskerud county in Norway, constitute the largest mining field in Norway, with over 80 different mines. It was the largest pre-industrial working place in Norway, with over 4,000 workers at its peak in the 1770s and supplied over 10% of the gross national product of the Danish–Norwegian union during its 335-year-long history: over 450,000 man-years were expended in the production.
The town of Kongsberg houses the Norwegian Mining Museum, which houses collection of silver, tools, and machinery utilised by the miners, engineers, and doctors. Silver was first discovered between the 1 July and 5 July 1623. The story says that two small children - Helga and Jacob - were out shepherding their cattle at the top of Gruveåsen hill. They had an ox with them which scraped on the side of the mountain. They could see something shining and glimmering, and they picked it up and took it home to their father. Recognizing it as silver and quite valuable, he melted it and brought it to the town of Skien in Telemark county to sell it. In Skien he was arrested, the police finding it suspicious that someone would attempt to sell silver at such a low price.
Being convinced that he was a thief, he was given the choice between telling where he had found the silver, or being sentenced to hard labour. He chose to tell the authorities he had found the silver in Southern Sandsvær, which was the old name for Kongsberg. The king of Norway and Denmark at the time, Christian IV, came to Norway the following year and founded the town of Kongsberg in 1624.(Wikipedia).

Peter Zumthor´s allmannajuvet, the zinc mines in Sauda, Norway
This is Peter Zumthor´s zinc mine museum, located in allmannajuvet, Sauda, Norway. The spectacular scene can be found by the norwegian national tourist road in Ryylke.
The Allmannajuvet zinc mines are a disused mining works in Sauda. The mines were in operation from 1881 to 1899. During these years a total of 12,000 tonnes of zinc ore were extracted. Today, the mining area is a museum. The plain buildings in the gorge are designed in an industrial construction style to embody the story of the mines.

Folldal Gruver, Norway
This is a video I made from various snippets filmed during a visit to Folldal Gruver, the now defunct mines in Folldal in Hedmark in central Norway. There are outside views as well as footage from the mine museum, the temporary exhibition on the history of the labor movement in Folldal, the café and the National Park Museum. We also visited the mine itself - I made a separate video of that, so check out my channel. :-)
Mining Wagon Found
Running the tour up in Alder Gulch and decided to check out the remains of the old mining wagon. Turned out to be cooler than I thought. I like that you can see where two different sets of wheel rubbed on the frame over the course of a working life time.

Blaafarveværket - The Beauty Of Norway
Vlog034.
On our vacation Elna wanted to visit Blaafarveværket. We did not go to the mines but got some beautiful shots of the museum part of it all. We post these videos here so that you all can see how beautiful Norways is and that it is important to take care of our history.
One hour from Oslo you find the Royal Modum Blaafarveværk, a museum measuring eight kilometres in length with a mix of art, culture and outdoor activities.
Blaafarveværket was established in 1773 to extract cobalt from the mines at Modum. The cobalt was then used to make the blue dye for the world's porcelain and glass industries.

Norway in Action - Ice Caving in Norway
Dutch Extreme sports enthusiast and mountaineering guide Sander Cruiming has filmed this Ice caving video at Norway's famous and breath taking Buer Glacier.
Buerdalen is a beautiful, wild and green narrow valley with steep mountainsides. At the end of the valley is the spectacular ice-blue Buerbreen / glacier, an arm of the majestic glacier Folgefonna.
The glacier arm can be reached by foot in a couple of hours from Odda. Every day during the summer you can put on the crampons, bring your ice axe and come along on a glacier hike on the glacier of Buer.
Ice-caving is an incredible journey into the heart of this glacier. Head lights provide the only source of illumination as the adventurers walk through the melt water channels, where water has cut out long corridors and caves in the ice.

Smoky Quartz crystal pocket, Norway - Røykkvarts, Hurum
The Smoky quartz crystals in this short video I found in a pocket on Knivfjellet (Knife mountain) in Hurum, about 30 kilometers from Oslo in the southern part of Norway. This small wooded mountain, with view overlooking the Drammen fiord, has yielded a lot of Smoky quartz through the years, from tiny to giant in size, often growing on or together with Orthoclase crystals. Mostly Smoky quartz from this location is quite dark, almost black, and rarely see-through and often with a distinct velvety looking coating.
The small pocket I discovered in May 2010 only contained one larger crystal, about 7 cm long, but many small groups of unusually lustrous and gemmy groups of small crystals. A very happy Rockhound indeed carried home, what I consider some of the nicest looking crystals I have ever found :)
PS: This is a test video of mine, so the second half of it is shots from my early summer garden....
