Explorer of the seas cruise ship
Its great experienced with the whole family to be able to visit and experience Fijian culture, beautiful plaves and friendly people.
Lifou is the largest island in the Loyalty Islands, an archipelago of New Caledonia, as well as the largest atoll in the world (1,150 square kilometres/444 square miles). The French claimed New Caledonia in 1854, and Lifou was discovered in 1857. It was soon frequented by whalers and traders, followed by Protestant and Catholic Missionaries, who arrived with the intention of saving the souls of the local indigenous population.
The Loyalty Islands Province (French Province des îles Loyauté) is one of three administrative subdivisions of New Caledonia encompassing the Loyalty Islands (French: Îles Loyauté) archipelago in the Pacific located northeast of the New Caledonian mainland of Grande Terre. The provincial government seat is part of the French territory of New Caledonia, at Lifou, which is 100 kilometres (62 mi) away. The Loyalty Islands are a collectivité territoriale of France. The province's 2014 population was approximately 18,297 inhabitants living on almost 2,000 square kilometres (770 sq mi). The native inhabitants are the Kanak and the Tavu'avua' peoples.
Cruise ships are greeted in the town of Easo by an open-air market selling arts and crafts, clothing and food. It is the place to buy the ever-popular coconut with its top sliced off and a straw to drink its fresh milk.
Embark on forest walks, explore grottos, snorkel, or see the traditional Melanesian way of life on one of the many shore excursions offered. If going it alone, walk up to the Notre Dame de Lourdes church on the headland overlooking the bay. The friendly locals are always willing to reciprocate a smile for a smile.

Island life in Easo New Caledonia and Cave Jumping (Cruise Vacation Stop 35)
Ahh beautiful island living. Todays adventures take me to Easo in New Caledonia. I find a fun snorkeling spot called Aquarium of Jinek. I hike to the little Church of Notre Dame de Lourdes and capture some stunning views. I then find a local hot spot. A cave I hike down to in the jungle and then find a cave pool i do some cave jumping. Lots of fun. Ending the day eating local lobster and rice on a palm leaf plate.
Join me on my travels as i put down the stethoscope and experience life.

P&O Pacific Dawn Cruise - Exploring Lifou (Snorkeling, the caves and swimming with turtles)
Hello everyone.
Yes, it has been 6 months since my last upload... very consistent.
This video goes through our day in Lifou, arguably one of the best islands to visit as part of the cruise experience. As part of our experience we went snorkeling in Jinek Bay which is part of a pre-booking as there are limited positions throughout the day. Jinek Bay snorkeling was absolutely beautiful and I definitely recommend. We walked up some stairs (though would not be recommended for people with walking difficulties as it is quite a steep walk) to reach a beautiful church known as Notre Dame de Lourdes (church on the hill), which is only briefly shown in the video, sorry about that.
Next we made our way towards the cave (after some research it seems the cave is sometimes referred to as 'The forest secret Grotto'). This cave had a steep and rocky, but stunning walk down till you reach the bottom to find the cave, though quite dark. You are then welcome to jump into the water or watch as others jump in. This cave will cost $10 pp for entry.
Lastly, as we were heading back to the cruise we decided to have a little dip in the beach, turning into a long swim after we discovered some beautiful turtles. This experience, though not part of the initial plan as there is no promise the turtles will always be around, quickly became one of my favourite experiences.
Overall Lifou was an absolutely amazing experience and I encourage checking it out for yourself.
Thanks so much for watching!
