Places to see in ( Sete - France ) Notre Dame de la Salette
The Notre-Dame-de-la-Salette chapel was built in 1861 at the top of Mont Saint-Clair, on the site of the old Montmorencette fort built by Louis XIII. It is remarkable for its interior frescoes and ex-votos deposited by the fishing families.
To be forgiven the beheading of Montmorency or for the repose of the duke's soul, it is not known, King Louis XIII had dismantled the fort (La Montmorencette) that the governor of Languedoc had established in these places to monitor the coast. Instead.
This expiatory chapel was built, with astonishing mural frescoes, which attracts many pilgrims on 19 September. From the terrace of the presbytery, splendid panorama.

Sète is a major port city in the southeast French region of Occitanie. It’s bordered by the Étang de Thau, a biodiverse saltwater lagoon. Across a narrow isthmus, Sète’s Mediterranean coast is lined with sandy beaches. The top of Mont St Clair offers views of the city, known as “Venice of the Languedoc” for its canal network. The Musée Paul Valéry has displays on the history of Sète, plus an art collection.
Sete known as Cette until 1928, is a commune in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region in southern France. Its inhabitants are called Sétois. Known as the Venice of Languedoc and the singular island (in Paul Valéry's words), Sete is a port and a seaside resort on the Mediterranean with its own very strong cultural identity, traditions, cuisine and dialect. Sete is also the hometown of artists like Paul Valéry, Jean Vilar, Georges Brassens, Gregory Del Piero, Hervé Di Rosa, Manitas de Plata, and Robert Combas. Built upon and around Mont St Clair, Sète is situated on the south-eastern hub of the Bassin de Thau, an enclosed salt water lake used primarily for oyster and mussel fields. To its other side lies the Mediterranean. And the town has a network of canals which are link between the Étang de Thau and the Mediterranean Sea.
In 1703, when the Saint-Louis church was consecrated, Louis IX, patron of the port, also became the patron saint of the town. He has been celebrated every year on August 25, with canal jousting competitions, music and fireworks, except during wartime. Sète is the eastern starting point of the Canal du Midi, and the ending point of the Canal du Rhône à Sète. Its train station Gare de Sète is approximately 15 minutes by train from Montpellier, and is also served by long distance trains to Bordeaux, Toulouse, Marseille and Paris. Car ferries sail between Sète and Morocco.
Sète is a centre of water jousting, and hosts a major tournament during the town festival, the St-Louis. Paul Valéry's poem Le cimetière marin, depicts the graveyard above Sète's harbour. Valéry is buried in the graveyard, and the nearby Paul Valéry Museum contains a collection of his drawings and manuscripts. Espace Georges-Brassens is a museum dedicated to the Sétois singer-songwriter. Agnès Varda's first film, La Pointe Courte, was filmed in the environs of Sète. The Secret of the Grain, also known as Couscous or Le Grain et le Mulet, a César Award-winning movie about Tunisian immigrants, was filmed in Sète.

The Théâtre de la Mer is an open air theater in the city of Sète , France . This theater is actually an old fort , Fort Saint-Pierre. Fort Saint-Pierre was built by Antoine Niquet , disciple of Vauban . This defensive point was deemed necessary following an English attack on the coast. Indeed, at the dawn of July 25, 1710the Sketches saw an English fleet preparing to melt over the city. Distraught, the population fled across the pond Thau . Sète remained under English rule for several hours, until the arrival of the Duke of Noailles and his troops.
Work began in 1743 and ended in 1746 . This Fort had for mission to defend the port of Sète against the English attacks and allowed to watch the ships coming from the side of Agde . It is an irregular hexagon, built on seven platforms arranged in amphitheater facing the sea, and provided with batteries of guns. It operated as a duet with a second Fort, Fort Richelieu, also located in Sète . Both buildings could cross fire to be more efficient. It served including barracks under the former regime , and received Arab prisoners during the conquest of Algeria which Abd-el-Kader, the April 24 , 1848.
Later, in 1914 , the place was requisitioned to serve as a hospital to welcome troops returning from Africa with infectious diseases. It is at this moment that the fort is ceded to the hospices of the city, and that is why the legal owner is still the hospital of Sète. In 1944 , the fort was heavily damaged during the flight of Germans.
Fort Saint-Pierre was converted into a theater in 1959, and opened in 1960. It was initially not intended for music but theater, hence its former name Jean Vilar Theater . For years, under the impetus of the actor Jean Deschamps , many great French comedians came to perform. This scene fell into disuse despite several attempts to revive, especially in the 1980s and the 1990s with a link to the national scene. His first big musical hours were offered by Claude François in the 1970s . Since then, many artists have come to perform, such as Ben Harper , Lawrence Voulzy , Thomas Dutronc or Didier Lockwood .
