Nottingham is a city and unitary authority area in Nottinghamshire, England, located 128 miles north of London, in the East Midlands. Nottingham has links to the legend of Robin Hood and to the lace-making, bicycle and tobacco industries. Nottingham was granted its city charter in 1897 as part of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Nottingham is a tourist destination; in 2011, visitors spent over £1.5 billion – the thirteenth highest amount in England's 111 statistical territories.
Nottingham has an award-winning public transport system, including the largest publicly owned bus network in England and is also served by Nottingham railway station and the modern Nottingham Express Transit tram system.
Nottingham is also a major sporting centre, and in October 2015 was named 'Home of English Sport'. The National Ice Centre, Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre, and Trent Bridge international cricket ground are all based in or around the city, which is also the home of two professional league football teams; the world's oldest professional league club Notts County, and Nottingham Forest, famously two-time winners of the UEFA European Cup under Brian Clough in 1979 and 1980. The city also has professional rugby, ice hockey and cricket teams, and the Aegon Nottingham Open, an international tennis tournament on the ATP and WTA tours. This accolade came just over a year after Nottingham was named as the UK's first City of Football.
On 11 December 2015, Nottingham was named a City of Literature by UNESCO, joining Norwich, Melbourne, Prague and Barcelona as one of only a handful in the world. The title reflects Nottingham's literary heritage, with Lord Byron, DH Lawrence and Alan Sillitoe having links to the city.
It has two universities, the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University, which are attended by over 70,610 students—with 43,765 at the University of Nottingham, and Nottingham Trent University having 26,845, according to the respective University websites.

Visiting Nottingham Contemporary Art Gallery: Exhibitions by Marguerite Humeau and Otobong Nkanga.
Song: Corelli - La Folia (Ib OST)
I don't own the song - all rights belong to Kouri Kuchinawa.
(La Folia by Arcangelo Corelli is my favourite music piece and is so nostalgic).
I visited the newest exhibition of the Nottingham Contemporary Art Gallery (one of my favourite places to go) where we saw the FoxP2 exhibition by French artist Marguerite Humeau and another two exhibitions by the artist Otobong Nkanga. It would be great to visit this place yourself as the exhibitions change every few months.
A lot of the information is in the video and if you read this far down, thank you.
Also, I am very sorry that the camera was shaky and moved quickly - many of my classmates were in all of the shots or didn't want to be filmed. The videos were originally for my personal use.
Enjoy.
Nottingham Contemporary opening weekend
We believe that contemporary artists offer extraordinary perspectives on contemporary society. They cross boundaries, and they take us with them. They enable us to see ourselves and the world around us in completely different, sometimes life-changing, ways.
David Hockney is consistently called Britains favourite artist. This is the first time that so many works from his early years in London and Los Angeles have been shown together for nearly 40 years. It is exciting, too, to present Frances Starks first solo exhibition in a public gallery in this country.
The artists are from different generations, but they share similarities. Los Angeles as a way of life is apparent in their work. Both artists incorporate their literary interests into their visual art. Both share, too, an autobiographical code, making their art a game of interpretation. Neither artist dissolves art into life instead they complicate the two. It is a connection that sets the tone for the new Nottingham Contemporary.

Marguerite Humeau has described herself as an “Indiana Jones in Google times.” The London-based French artist's work embarks on epic quests in time and space. FOXP2 is her first major solo show in the UK. Humeau's new works grew out of conversations with zoologists and other experts. One sound installation takes the form of a “choir” of 108 billion voices, re-enacting the moment when a gene – FOXP2 – mutated, allowing our ancestors to develop language. This leads on to what Humeau calls a “biological showroom” of elephants, engaged in an elaborate mourning ritual. The installations take us back to the origins of life, while also imagining a future without us.
FOXP2 has been conceived by the Palais de Tokyo, where it opened in June 2016. The exhibition presented here is a collaboration between Nottingham Contemporary and the Palais de Tokyo.
The politics we live in is the politics of race | The Place Is Here, Nottingham Contemporary
The Place Is Here artist Marlene Smith gives her take on #contemporaryart, the #body and #racialisation.
The Place Is Here brings together a wide range of works by more than 30 black and Asian British artists and collectives of the 1980s. The questions they ask about #identity, #representation and what #culture is for, remain vital today.
