Five Star Review...

5 Star Rating
We went on the Novastar July 18 - July 22nd and it was a great way to get to Nova Scotia and back.
The buffett was great, all you can eat, we had dinner and the lunch buffet. The piano bar was very nice to sit at and have a drink after dinner. Bingo was fun on the way back. Movies were being shown, the kids area had movies and activities and there was a band at night too. The staff was all very nice and were very helpful.
Overall, I would do it again. It was way better to be relaxing on a nice ship than to be driving that distance in my car. It was well worth it!

Time Lapse: The Cat Ferry from Nova Scotia to Portland, Maine
July 14, 2017 - Onward to New England! Leaving Canada's Maritime provinces behind, I board The Cat, a catamaran ferry linking Yarmouth, Nova Scotia to Portland, Maine, 342 km and 5.5 hours away across the Atlantic Ocean.
Well, more accurately, the Gulf of Maine.
Once in Portland, I explore the downtown core and South Portland, where I'm spending the night in my 38th state.

Algobay at Portland Harbor in Maine
this is the algo bay from the algoma central corporation this boat is docked at portland terminal where the cruise ships used to dock. this is a rare sighting. Algo bay is actually a great lakes bulk carrier . This ship has paid the state of Maine $50,000 to stay there during the winter.. It was on its way back from China. This is the sister ship to the Algoport which sank in september 2009

Maritime of My Life (Pt. 90) - The Cat Ferry from Yarmouth, NS to Portland, ME
July 14, 2017 - The cost of taking the fast Cat (Catamaran) ferry from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia to Portland, Maine is a bit high, but I was more than willing to pay for this one way trip across the Atlantic Ocean to New England, rather than back-tracking for 2 days through Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
At 5.5 hours, the 341 km trip from Canada to the United States was a comfortable ride, but unfortunately, you didn't see much in the way of land from the moment you leave Yarmouth to an hour outside of Portland, in Stephen King territory.
The amenities aboard were good, though - gift shops, cafeteria, a bar area (which I didn't partake in, as I had to drive, eventually), as well as make-shift movie theatre to entertain the kids on the journey. We also had some live music, courtesy of the Nova Scotian group Celtic Rant, to get us into the toe-tapping seaside mood.
Being from British Columbia, I'm quite used to ferries; this boat was impressive but didn't have as much as, say, BC Ferries does; the areas on the outside of the ship were incredibly limited.
