Tiergarten / Zoo Nürnberg - a nice day there... this was the first time i was there in the zoo, it was nice but i missed 3 animals: crocodiles, Gorillas & elefants.
but all in all it was a very nice day there, if you are in Nürnberg - visit the zoo!

Nuremberg Zoo is a zoo located in the Nuremberg Reichswald, southeast of Nuremberg, Germany. With an area of 67 hectares, approximately 300 animal species are kept by the zoo. The tradition of zoos in Nuremberg goes back to the Middle Ages. However the only indications of a zoo maintained by the local nobility, the Burgraves, take the form of certain place names, such as the Zoo Gate (Tiergärtner Tor) and the adjoining Zoo Square (Tiergärtnertorplatz).
This preserve stretched as far as the so-called Johannisfelder (today: St. Johannis) and the Rohlederersgarten (today the site of the Klinikum Nord). One can only speculate about the use made of the park. The Nuremberg Zoo was founded on 11 May 1912 on the site of the Bavarian State Exhibition at the Luitpoldhain. After The Nazis seized power, the zoo had to give way for the Reichsparteitagsgelände at the Dutzendteich and was closed in February 1939. In May 1939, the new zoo was opened in the Reichswald at the Schmausenbuck. It was almost completely destroyed after World War II and rebuilt at the end of the 1950s.
With 67 hectares (170 acres), it is one of the largest European zoos. Typical are large, natural enclosures, which are embedded in a landscape of forests and stone pits. More than one million visitors are counted every year. Many new enclosures, e.g., for gorillas, snow leopards and polar bears, were built in recent years.
Flocke, a captive-born polar bear who was born at the zoo in December 2007, became a popular tourist attraction and an international celebrity after a controversial decision to remove her from her mother and raise her by hand. Flocke has since been adopted by United Nations Environment Programme chief Achim Steiner.
The zoo has Asiatic lions and Siberian tigers, which live in former stone pits. The inner cages of both large cat species are behind a rock face and can be visited only after entering the house through a tunnel. Other carnivores are snow leopards, polar bears, Syrian brown bears, and maned wolves. The zoo is also successful in breeding South African cheetahs. Further attractions are Common bottlenose dolphins, Indian rhinoceroses, Malayan tapirs, lowland gorillas, California sea lions and manatees.
Many hooved mammals, like reticulated giraffes, Somali wild asses, Père David's deer, European and American bison, African buffalo, plains zebras and Turkmenian kulans live in large enclosures, which are embedded in the forested, hilly landscape. Beautiful ponds are home to a variety of water birds.
The Polar Bear Group is a life-size, bronze animal sculpture in the Aqua Park of the Zoo, created by Josef Tabachnyk in 2007. The Group consists of a mother polar bear with her young cubs in a playful pose, and is based on a flat plate from bright granite, which is reminiscent of an ice floe. The Group was created by the sculptor Josef Tabachnyk and was installed in the zoo in 2007. The measurements of the Polar Bear Group are 120x240x90 cm. Since November 2010, another bronze bear sculpture created by the same artist was installed in the entrance area of the zoo. It depicts a brown bear lying on its back, playing with a slug.

The Nuremberg Zoo introduced a special guided tour for the visitors on Saturday, focused on homosexuality among animals, to mark the Christopher Street Day widely celebrated in Germany as well as in whole Europe.
Christian Dienemann, the Nuremberg Zoo employee, said that dolphins were known for a so-called nasal penetration, which is a unique phenomenon among animals. The hole on the head, that's the nose, it's the blowhole. Many males stick their penises into the other male's blowholes, said Dienemann.
Though, Dienemann stopped short of claiming that homosexual animals exist, adding that what he described was just a homosexual behavior.
For most of the animals we don't know that, because that would mean that either we ask the animals, who will not answer, or we observe them their whole lives, he stressed.
The Christopher Street Day is celebrated in memory of the 'Stonewall Riots' which took place in a bar called the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street, Greenwich Village in New York on June 27 1969. The 'Stonewall Riots' were the first major uprising of LGBTQ people against police brutality in the USA.

Nuremberg, a city in northern Bavaria, is distinguished by medieval architecture such as the fortifications and stone towers of its Altstadt (Old Town). Nuremberg is a city on the river Pegnitz and the Rhine–Main–Danube Canal in the German state of Bavaria, in the administrative region of Middle Franconia, about 170 kilometres (110 mi) north of Munich. Nuremberg is the second-largest city in Bavaria (after Munich), and the largest in Franconia (Franken). Several old villages now belong to the city of Nuremberg , for example Grossgründlach, Kraftshof, Thon, and Neunhof in the north-west; Ziegelstein in the north-east, Altenfurt and Fischbach in the south-east; and Katzwang, Kornburg in the south. Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof is a stop for IC and ICE trains on the German long-distance railway network. The Nuremberg–Ingolstadt–Munich high-speed line. The Nuremberg tramway network was opened in 1881. As of 2008, it extended a total length of 36 km (22 mi), had six lines, and carried 39.152 million passengers annually. The first segment of the Nuremberg U-Bahn metro system was opened in 1972. Nuremberg's trams, buses and metro system are operated by the VAG Nürnberg (Verkehrsaktiengesellschaft Nürnberg or Nuremberg Transport Corporation), itself a member of the VGN (Verkehrsverbund Grossraum Nürnberg or Greater Nuremberg Transport Network).
There is also a Nuremberg S-Bahn suburban metro railway and a regional train network, both centred on Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof.

We took a spontaneous trip to the ZOO in Nuremberg, Germany!
I would rate this zoo a 5/5 we had a lot of fun and loved the unique free roaming enclosures. A lot of panoramic views. Make sure to go see the Manatee House if you ever get a chance.
We saw so many beautiful and colorful animals. Some were not even featured in the video.
As mentioned: the entry fee is 16 euros per person (adult).
Parking was accessible and free.
