Here in this noble city of Nuremberg, in which the principles were developed in that trial are far more important than the convictions of the individuals. Nuremberg now stands at the panicle of human rights in the world.
7. Cutaway audience
8. SOUNDBITE: (German) Hans-Peter Kaul, judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague:
There are many obstacles, heavy and strong obstacles, to implement the legacy of Nuremberg. Many more countries need to support this institution (the International criminal tribunal, ignored by the US so far) and not only verbally but with acts.
5. Cutaway Arno Hamburger, resident of Nuremberg and interpreter at the Nuremberg trial (of German Jewish origins, he managed to escape the country before the war started)
6. SOUNDBITE: (German) Arno Hamburger, interpreter at the Nuremberg trial:
When a young man reads about these things (crimes) and has to defend them, then perhaps it is his duty, but when someone, like me, has more issues with it, it is very difficult to understand, even today.
7. Cutaway sculpture
8. SOUNDBITE: (German) Johann-Georg Schaetzler, member of defence team at Nuremberg:
Moral issues do not play a role at defence, the murderers are also defended without a lawyer supporting the murder or finding it morally acceptable. Secondly, all these doctors, officers and others were justly sentenced in a follow-up trial against SS and individual generals, and they were mostly sentenced to death.

9. People leaving the courtroom
STORYLINE
Witnesses returned to an oak-panelled courtroom in Nuremberg on Sunday, to reflect on the legacy of the trial of Germany's Nazi leaders which, exactly 60 years ago, broke new ground in holding government leaders responsible for wartime atrocities and human rights abuses.
In Courtroom 600 of the Nuremberg Palace of Justice on November 20, 1945, Hermann Goering, Rudolf Hess, Joachim von Ribbentrop and 18 other high-ranking Nazis pleaded innocent to a panel of judges representing the victorious allies - the United States, Soviet Union, Britain and France.
Participants recalled that they realised even then that the then-new offences of crimes against peace, waging a war of aggression, war crimes and crimes against humanity were a key step in establishing an international system of justice.
US Nuremberg prosecutor Whitney Harris agreed that because of the Nuremberg proceedings, tribunals have been able to bring cases against leaders such as former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, Iraq's Saddam Hussein and those who led the genocide in Rwanda.
Nuremberg now stands at the panicle of human rights in the world, Harris said.
Hans-Peter Kaul, judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague said that many more countries should support
the International Criminal Tribunal not only verbally but with acts in order to to implement the legacy of Nuremberg.
In addition to Johann-Georg Schaetzler, a member of the defence team for Hess and Harris, Arno Hamburger, an interpreter at the trial, and Susanne von Paczensky, a German journalist for the DANA news agency, were present to address the ceremony, 60 years after the event in which they all took place.
Seven drew long prison sentences and three were acquitted.

Nuremberg 1945 in COLOR !!
Rare original color footage - home movie from an American GI soldier in Southern Germany 1944 1945. End of World War Two
Here is an amazing private color 16mm home movie from an American GI that filmed the American army moving through Nazi Germany (south germany) 1944 and 1945. A lot of the color film footage is filmed in the city of Nuremberg Germany.
As I have collected thousands of color photo slides from all nations during the Second World War, I have also had the luck to find some fantastic private home movies from that time period in 8mm and 16mm format. Here is one I have got converted to digital and would like to share with the World.
If you are interested in Second World War history or just color photography please check my archive photo site pixpast.com
Also if you by any chance have any color slides or color films from WW2 please contact me.
Thank you and enjoy the videos !
