Freedman's Bank 150th Anniversary Celebration
On March 3, 2015, Operation HOPE Forums and the Afro-American History Society of the National Archives (AAHS) will recognize the 150th anniversary of the Freedman's Bank. Established on March 3, 1865, by President Abraham Lincoln, the Bank was a landmark institution that had over $57 million in deposits and 70,000 depositors. The Bank's records remain the single largest repository of lineage-linked African-American genealogy, containing upwards of 480,000 names.
Members of AAHS will present Freedman's Bank records at the National Archives, and there will be a moderated discussion with Operation HOPE Founder John Hope Bryant, Ambassador Andrew Young, ESSENCE Magazine Editor-In-Chief Vanessa DeLuca, and other dignitaries on the historical significance of the Bank and how its unfinished journey still resonates today in issues of poverty, income inequality, and race relations. A reception will follow.

Regent University
Regent University is a private Christian research university located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States. The university was founded by Pat Robertson in 1977 as Christian Broadcasting Network University, and changed its name to Regent University in 1990. A satellite campus located in Alexandria, Virginia, was sold in 2008. Regent offers distance education, in addition to its traditional on-campus programs. The ArtsLink Assembly is a new public forum to share practices and ideas, to network and foster dialogue with international and U.S. artists, cultural institutions, foundations, and city and federal agencies.
Central to the Assembly is the exploration of the impact of international cultural exchange and the artists' growing role in social justice and building an open democratic society. The ArtsLink Fellows 2018 from Albania, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine will participate in presentations and focused dialogues.
Speakers included, among others, Simon Brault, Director, Canada Council for the Arts; Izabel Galliera, author of Social Practice in Post-Soviet Europe; Leyya Tawil and Mike Khoury, artists; Nina Murray, U.S. State Department; Noor Zafar, lawyer; and Guiomar Ochoa, NEA.
