POPULAR ROUTE
When you are in Kattila, popular place to go is Haukkalampi (it is a small lake/pond), there is also info point and water point (it is located side of the house in the Haukkalampi). (This route you can see on this video). From Haukkalampi you can easily get short cut to the closest bus stop/main road where you can take bus back to the civilization. There are many things to see and many routes to go in Nuuksio, enjoy!)

BE PREPARED
It is good to have something to eat and drink with you. Buy it before you go there! (There is no shop!)
(Maybe it is better to stay on the roads first or you may get lost?)
(If you want to go outside the routes you need to have a map and compass)

RESPECT THE NATURE
Keep the nature clean! Do not litter (do not trash). There are no trash bin. If you smoke cigarrettes take the rest with you, off the park. Everything you take with you there, you have to take also back with you. Thank you!

HOW TO GET THERE?
Nuuksio, National Park is located only about 40 km distance from the center of Helsinki, Finland.
First take train number (name) Y, U, L, or E from Helsinki Center (Railway Station) and go to the Espoo (Espoo Center, Espoon keskus) railway station (train travel time is about 30 min) and then take the bus number 245A it will take you to the Nuuksio. The last bus stop is right one and it is named Kattila (it is part of Nuuksio) (bus travel time is about 30 min). (Winter time the bus won't take you to the end (Kattila) because the road is so bad condition).

Winter Fun Day at Nuuksio National Park, Espoo, Finland

It was a drizzling February rain across Southern Finland but couldn't stop everyone attending Winter Fun Day from all smiles. Special thanks to Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and the City of Espoo for organizing this memorable gathering. We really enjoyed all the activities: husky rides, ice fishing, curling, build the snowman. Oh, and the fulfilling refreshments: pancakes, salmon soup, sausages, marshmallows and glögi as a must!

Overnighter at Nuuksio National Park, Finland

This is a film of an overnight hike I did on the 29th and 30th of July 2017 in Nuuksio National Park. Nuuksio is a beautiful park, very close to Helsinki. It is a popular park, but I went for the part where there are no popular dayhikes. I met only a handful of people during these 2 days.

I stayed overnight at the camp spot at Valkealampi. It is small and you can't make a reservation for it. There are no facilities and it is awesome!

You can reach the starting point of this hike by public transport. Bus 245A is a direct service from the Espoo train station to the bus stops at the start and end of the hike: Hogbacka and Punjonsuo.

핀란드인들에게 자연이란 어떤 의미일까? 핀란드 남부에 있는 눅시오 국립공원을 찾았다. “눅시오는 핀란드의 수도 헬싱키에서 가장 가까운 국립공원이에요. 아직은 등산로와 장작도 많고 아름다운 독특한 자연이 있어요. 작은 호수도 많고 숲에서 베리나 버섯을 딸 수도 있어요. 헬싱키에서 20분 밖에 안 걸리지만 조용하고 진정한 자연 속으로 올 수 있습니다.” 가이드 사투씨의 안내를 받아 공원을 둘러보기로 했다. 길을 가던 사투씨. 갑자기 보여줄 것이 있단다. “여기 보물이 있네요. 이건 버섯칼이에요. 이걸로 간단히 다듬어 줄 수 있어요. 이 버섯은 좋은 것이에요. 핀란드에서는 버섯을 3등급으로 분류하는데 이건 가장 좋은 등급이에요. 요즘 버섯들은 다 좋아요.” 사투씨가 탐방로를 벗어나 숲으로 들어간다. 이리저리 나무를 슥~ 훑어내더니 손에 무언가를 털어놓는다. 야생 블루베리다. “깨끗하니 먹어보세요” 야생에서 자란 블루베리는 처음 맛봤는데 재배된 것보다는 신맛이 강한 편이었다. 핀란드에서는 누구나 어떤 규제도 없이 자연에서 음식재료를 구하는 것이 일상적인 일이라고 한다. “핀란드에서는 ‘모두의 권리’라는 자연에서 자유롭게 움직일 수 있는 독특한 법이 있어요. 개인 땅이어도 자연이라면 어디든지 자유롭게 갈 수 있고 거기서 베리나 버섯을 따거나 낚시를 해도 된다는 뜻이에요.” 블루베리를 배불리 따 먹고 30분 정도를 걸어 도착한 곳은 취사가 가능한 야영장. 이곳으로 오는 도중 곳곳에서 취사하는 모습을 볼 수 있었다. “어제 여기서 잔 거예요?” “네. 어제 여기 해먹에서 잤어요. 조금 추웠지만 괜찮았습니다.” “이런 곳에서 자는 게 흔한 일은 아닌데 어떠셨어요?” “여행하기 좋은 날씨잖아요. 자연 속으로 들어와서 이렇게 해먹에서 자면서 자연과 함께 할 수 있어서 좋았어요.” 조금 전에 땄던 버섯으로 스튜를 만드는 사투씨. 군침 도는 사슴 소시지까지 구웠다. 옆에서 다른 가족들이 음식을 만들고 있는데 처음 보는 음식이다. “이란 요리인 ‘미자아제미’라는 음식이에요. 가지와 토마토, 계란, 마늘로 만든 음식입니다.” 겉보기에 화려하지 않지만 좋은 재료 때문일까 꿀맛이 따로 없다.

Nuuksio (Finnish) or Noux (Swedish) is a district of Espoo, a city in Finland, best known for the Nuuksio National Park. The[Solvalla Sports Institute is also located in Nuuksio.

Hiking is the preferred term, in Canada and the United States, for a long, vigorous walk, usually on trails (footpaths), in the countryside, while the word walking is used for shorter, particularly urban walks. On the other hand, in the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Ireland, the word walking is acceptable to describe all forms of walking, whether it is a walk in the park or backpacking in the Alps. On day three of our outdoor adventure travels in Finland we ventured away from Helsinki to explore the rugged wilderness of the Finnish countryside. Our first stop was at Nuuksio National park where we went on a guided hike. Walking in the woods allowed us to experience scenic lakes and forest in natural setting. There is something remarkably therapeutic about being outside in the wild. The scenery outdoors in Finland is one of the most attractive features of the country where you can enjoy chopping wood, making a campfire and hiking to your heart's content.

The second part of our day was spent driving to Kasnas with the intention of basing ourselves for the next couple of days in the Finnish Archipelago. Although we went kayaking the day before, having the chance to once again paddle in Kasnäs was an opportunity we relished. With smaller and lighter kayaks we ventured off into the waters. The more challenging aspect was trying to keep them balanced and upright ;)

Overall, if you plan to visit Finland be sure outdoors adventure activities are part of your itinerary.



Hiking in Nuuksio National Park and Kayaking in Kasnäs | Finland Vlog Day 3

It is day three in Finland and today we are going for a walk in the woods. We're here at Nuuksio National Park.

On today's outing we learned about Every Man's Right in Finland. This is a traditional Finnish concept that allows people to camp out freely, to pick berries and mushrooms in the wild, to fish with a rod and line, and to walk, cycle, or ski anywhere on the land. To sum it up, Every Man's Right means that everyone is free to enjoy the land.

Where are you right now? Right now I'm in a woodshed and what is really cool is that the Finnish government provides wood for all of the National Parks. You can go out and make a fire here.

Har! Har! Except, you don't have any firewood.

After hiking for a while, we cooked some sausages and enjoyed some sandwiches by the lake. It was a great way to spend a summer afternoon in Finland.

And we're kayaking again today.

It is eight o'clock right now. It is calm. It is peaceful outside. It is still very light and we have the golden rays of the sun shining down on the water.

While Helsinki is a fairly green city, it is nice to escape to real nature. The best thing about living in the capital of Finland is that it is so easy to get to the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia and Nuuksio National Park by simply jumping on the Metro or Bus and head out to the beautiful forests and lakes of the National Park! That's exactly what we did last weekend, where my wife and me packed up our two kids and visited the exhibitions at Haltia, had a delicious lunch at the Haltia Restaurant and then went for a hike in the National Park!
