Nuwara Eliya Golf Club | GoPlaces Sri Lanka
It didn’t take the tea planters long to lay out land for drives and putts in their holiday town, and the golf club was founded in 1889. Spreading north from Grand Hotel Rd, Nuwara Eliya Golf Club is beautifully kept and has a retinue of languid sleeping dogs guarding more than a few of the greens.
Temporary members pay Rs 500 per day. Hire golf clubs for Rs 1500 to Rs 2500 per day and golf shoes for Rs 500 per day. As with most golf clubs a certain standard of dress applies (shirts and trousers or shorts of a 'respectable' length). The club has a convivial wood-lined bar and a billiard room. Dinner in the dining room includes classic bland English cuisine, such as lamb chops with mint sauce, and an increasing number of Asian dishes.
The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, founded in 1889, is one of the oldest golf clubs in Asia and probably the world and is enriched with a tradition and an ambiance which is hard to equal. The Club is situated at the foot of Mount Piduruthalagala (Mount Pedro) and is surrounded by some of the finest tea gardens in Sri Lanka. - See more at:

Early morning Golf of Nems. He must play golf since our hotel was just 15 minutes walking distance to Nuwara Eliya Golf Club. I joined him to experience the golf course and took some video. Good thing I have clothes with me with collar. Have no idea about the dress rules though.

Sri Lanka,ශ්රී ලංකා,Ceylon,Nuwara Eliya Golf Club නුවර එළිය
The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club is one of the oldest Golf Clubs in Sri Lanka. Established in the late 19th century, it is located in the hill station of Nuwara Eliya. It is a 18-hole golf course.
Nuwara Eliya (Sinhala: නුවර එළිය [nuwərə ɛlijə]; Tamil: நுவரேலியா) is a city, in the hill country of the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The city name meaning is city on the plain (table land) or city of light. The city is the administrative capital of Nuwara Eliya District, with a picturesque landscape and temperate climate. It is located at an altitude of 1,868 m (6,128 ft) and is considered to be the most important location for Tea production in Sri Lanka. The city is overlooked by Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka. The city was founded by Samuel Baker, the discoverer of Lake Albert and the explorer of the Nile in 1846. Nuwara Eliya's climate lent itself to becoming the prime sanctuary of the British civil servants and planters in Ceylon. Nuwara Eliya, called Little England then, was also a hill country retreat where the British colonialists could immerse in their pastimes such as fox hunting, deer hunting, elephant hunting, polo, golf and cricket.
Although the town was founded in the 19th century by the British, the whole district is today visited by native travelers, specially during the month of April, the season of flowers, pony races, go cart races and auto rally.
Many of the buildings retain features from the colonial period such as the Queen's Cottage, General's House, Grand Hotel, Hill Club, Town Post Office and even new hotels are often built and furnished in the colonial style. Anyone who visits the city can wallow in its nostalgia of bygone days by visiting these landmark buildings. Many private homes still maintain their old English-style lawns and gardens.Due to its highland location, Nuwara Eliya has a subtropical highland climate (Köppen climate classification Cfb),[1] with a mean annual temperature of 16 °C (61 °F).
In the winter months it is quite cold at night, and there can even be frost. However, it rapidly warms up as the tropical sun climbs higher during the day. (wikpedia)

Heritance Tea Factory Kandapola Nuwara Eliya // Srilanka Trip //Dytha Sg
This is my first time travelling to Sri Lanka. My fiancé and I decided to drive from Colombo to Nuwera eliya. The amazing drive took about 5 hours in total.
We stayed in the beautiful Heritance Tea Factory, in Kandapola Nuwera Eliya. The link to the hotel is in the description below. This is the best place to experienced a Ceylon tea plantation and factory.
The hotel is at 2kms above sea level, which makes it the highest hotel in Sri Lanka. Surrounded by views of lush green tea and misty hills, the stay was truly an unforgettable experience for both of us.

Best Places to Visit in Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka
Nuwara Eliya is often referred to by the Sri Lankan tourist industry as ‘Little England’. While most British visitors struggle to recognise modern England in Nuwara Eliya, the toy-town ambiance does have a rose-tinted English country village feel to it, though it comes with a disorienting surrealist edge. Three-wheelers whiz past red telephone boxes. Water buffalo daubed in iridescent dye for the Tamil Thai Pongal festival mingle outside a pink, brick Victorian post office. A well-tended golf course morphs seamlessly into a rolling carpet of tea plantations. The dusty and bustling center of town is a thoroughly Sri Lankan tangle, but scratch the surface a little to reveal colonial bungalows, well-tended hedgerows and pretty rose gardens.
In earlier times, Nuwara Eliya (meaning ‘City of Light’) was the favoured cool-climate escape for the hard-working and hard-drinking English and Scottish pioneers of Sri Lanka’s tea industry. A rainy-day, misty-mountain atmosphere blankets the town from November to February so don’t come expecting tropical climes. But during April’s spring release, the town is crowded with domestic holidaymakers enjoying horse racing and sports-car hill climbs, and celebrating the Sri Lankan New Year. The cost of accommodation escalates wildly, and Nuwara Eliya becomes a busy, busy party town. For the rest of the year, the economy is based on tea, cool-climate vegetables, tourism and even more tea. Treat yourself to a night at one of Nuwara Eliya’s colonial hotels, play a round of golf and a few frames of billiards, and escape into the town’s curious combination of heritage and the here-and-now.
The town has an abundance of touts eager to get a commission for a guesthouse or hotel. They’ll intercept you on arrival at Nanu Oya train station with fabricated reports of accommodation being closed, cockroach-infested or just plain crooked. Just ignore them.

Victoria Park is one of the most popular and loved tourists' parks. It not only provides an opportunity to embrace nature but also silent speculation of birds. Rich in diversity, park provides thrill of adventure, and a rare opportunity to observe up close very rare woody plants and birds. Bale bazaar is the ultimate local shopping destination for tourists. The city also boats its cultural heritage and diversity with Seetha Eliya temple and Holy Trinity church.
