Pickup truck to Nwa La Bo Pagoda, outside Mawlamyine, Myanmar
18 April 2016 - About 12 miles north of Mawlamyine is the Nwa La Bo Pagoda, consisting of three golden boulders perched atop one another and topped by a stupa. The ride on the pickup truck up the mountain to/from the pagoda was perhaps even more memorable than the sight of the golden pagoda itself. Seated on one of the back benches, the ride was bumpy, cramped, uncomfortable, and I was constantly struggling to find my balance - but the discomfort was offset by the beauty of the natural surroundings around the single lane road and the beautiful lush landscape down below. After all, it's about the journey too, and not just the destination, right?

This Kyaik Than Lan Pagoda is the symbol of Mawlamyine. The scenery is great from this pagoda. Especially, the sunset is really beautiful, and the sunset is from 5 pm to 5:30pm.

18 April 2016 - Located above a hill overlooking the city of Mawlamyine, Myanmar is the Kyaik Than Lan Pagoda, the most reknown of a number of temples and other religious structures on that hill. It's a great place to visit during sunset - hypnotic prayers sound as you get a perfect view of the sun disappearing over the Thanlwin River and a panoramic view of the city that for me seems more like a big, tropical village.

Mawlamyine also spelled Mawlamyaing, is the fourth largest city of Burma (Myanmar), situated 300 km south east of Yangon and 70 km south of Thaton, at the mouth of Thanlwin (Salween) river. The city of 325,927 is the capital and largest city of Mon State, Myanmar, and is the main trading center and seaport in south-eastern Burma.
Mawlamyaing, auch Mawlamyine geschrieben, früher: Moulmein, ist die drittgrößte Stadt in Birma (Myanmar) und liegt etwa 300 km südöstlich von Rangun und 70 km südlich von Thaton an der Mündung des Saluen- ( Thanlwin ) -Flusses. Zur Zeit der britischen Herrschaft trug die Stadt den Namen Moulmein.
Mit 300.000 Einwohnern ist Mawlamyaing die größte Stadt im Mon-Staat und der wichtigste Handels- und Warenumschlagplatz im südöstlichen Birma.
Der Mon-Staat liegt im Süden von Myanmar. Im Norden grenzt er an die Bago-Division, im Osten an den Kayin-Staat, im Süden an die Tanintharyi-Division und im Westen an das Andamanische Meer. Im Südosten existiert außerdem eine schmale Grenzlinie zur thailändischen Provinz Kanchanaburi am sogenannten Drei-Pagoden-Pass. Zum Mon-Staat gehören etwa 300 der Küste vorgelagerte Inseln.
