(Episode 40) By Power of Wind!
IamMNnice.com
Minnesota is among the nation's leaders in wind energy production, ranking fourth behind Texas, California, and Iowa. Since the construction of its first wind farm in Crookston in 1987, Minnesota has been the Midwest's pioneer for wind energy development. In the past 20 years, over 60 wind farms have sprouted up across Minnesota with a total wind energy capacity of over 1800 MW.
Minnesota has the legislation to prove it believes in wind energy projects and local ownership models. The Minnesota government has instituted renewable energy objectives for utilities, tax incentives and community-based legislation (C-BED statute), all encouraging wind energy developments. The goal of the legislation is to have 25% of energy come from wind resources by 2025.

New Hope thrift shop completes one tall clothing order
Many Minnesota State Fair goers are checking out an exhibit that Arc's Value Village in New Hope had a hand in making. You could say it was one tall order. A 20-foot tall order.
Arc's Value Village donated all the clothing for the 20-foot-tall Paul Bunyan made up of recycled and repurposed materials.
We estimated 3,500 pounds of clothing, between the clothing used for Paul Bunyan and the six bales of jeans that were put on display as well, said Arc's Value Village spokesperson Greg Rue, who worked with five Arc Value Village thrift stores to collect the clothing.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency designed tall Paul. The agency has been working on him since May.
Paul's pants are about 40 pairs of jeans, his top is a variety of flannel shirts and I think there's a robe and a rug in there too, said Wayne Gjerde, MPCA recycling market development manager.
The exhibit also serves an important purpose. It's being used to highlight clothing waste and to get people to think before they throw something away.
Can they give it away? Can they repurpose it? Can they sell it to somebody else so they can use it? said Gjerde.
According to MPCA, Minnesotans throw away nearly 12 grocery carts full of clothing and other textiles every minute.
People are throwing away jobs by throwing away those textiles, explained Gjerde. There's 18,000 jobs that are supported by the material that you recycle in your curbside or give to these organizations across the state of Minnesota.
If Paul doesn't make an appearance at next year's fair, his clothes will be turned into quilts that will be donated to local charities.
