Mt Maunganui - Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour 2011
Hat-trick Of Wins For Australian Constable
The penultimate event of the Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour 2011 was held at one of our favourite summer holiday destinations, Mt Maunganui. A location renowned for its warm waters, classic white sand beaches, and perfect longboarding waves.
The long summer days are becoming noticeably shorter as the sun dips to the horizon in the early evening. The swell certainly hung around the whole weekend with a consistent 2-3ft wave offering very contestable conditions for the surfers to show off their skills.
Event No 5, Port Waikato is the Final event on the Tour and is to be held on the 4th & 5th March. Stay tuned to see the Champions crowned for 2011!

Surf Competition, O'Neill Sequence Surf Shop Pro Gisborne 2007
The New Zealand summer of surfing powers up this weekend with the SOL Surf Series taking place at Gisborne - the O'Neill Sequence Surf Shop Pro. After a lengthy break from competition over the colder winter months, the country's best surfers will be eager to kick off their campaigns with a good result and get the jump on their opponents.

The O'Neill Sequence Surf Shop Pro is the first of six events scattered throughout New Zealand. Locations include Dunedin, Whangamata, Mount Maunganui and Raglan. The culmination of the series is the invitational SOL Super 16 where the top surfers from the summer get to surf off in what will be a mobile event held in the best waves across the top of the North Island.
Last Saturday the Quiksilver New Zealand Surfing Team returned from a successful campaign in Peru where they placed seventh at the 2010 Billabong ISA World Surfing Games. All four Open Men's Division surfers will be contesting the event this weekend and are likely to have an edge over their opponents who have been competitively idle all winter.
Nick White (Mnt) was the highest placed of the four Kiwis at the event finishing 29th equal. The World Surfing Games was the only international competition that White contested in 2010 after surfing on the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series the past two years.
White placed fourth at the O'Neill Sequence Surf Shop Pro in 2009 and ranked sixth overall at years end. Another good start to the year will see him push for a top five placing on the SOL Surf Series in 2010/11 before testing his mettle on the ASP World Tour in 2011.

Surfing- Gisborne New Zealand
Surfing section shot in Gisborne. We live in a surfer's mecca. That's no exaggerated, tourism industry claim. The twin beaches of Makorori and Wainui are world famous for the consistency and quality of surf. A huge proportion of people who live in our community would define themselves as surfers.

The activity of surfing, and the culture that parallels the sport, continues to have a huge influence on the social and political dynamic of our community. So many of our residents came here primarily to be close to the breaking surf and there has evolved a sense of an extended surfing family. This almost tribal sense of belonging has become more entrenched as a second and even a third generation of locals grows up to populate our surf breaks. In this article we look at the history of surfing at our beaches and philosophize on the effects the surfing way of life has on how we view ourselves.
