Odeon Cinemas
Odeon is a cinema brand name operating in the United Kingdom and Ireland, which along with UCI Cinemas is part of the American Multi Cinema Theaters. It uses the famous name of the Odeon cinema circuit first introduced in Britain in 1930. The first Odeon cinema was opened by Oscar Deutsch in 1928, in Brierley, Staffordshire, although initially called Picture House. The first cinema to use the Odeon brand name was Deutsch's cinema at Perry Barr, Birmingham in 1930. Ten years later Odeon was part of the Rank Organisation who continued their ownership of the circuit for a further sixty years. Through a number of sales and acquisitions in the early 2000s the company was purchased by Terra Firma, which merged Odeon and UCI Cinemas to form Odeon UCI Cinemas Group. Most UCI cinemas then took the Odeon brand name in 2006. Terra Firma/UCI sold the company to AMC Theatres in November 2016. Ironically, UCI was originally formed through the merger of AMC UK and Cinema International Corporation in 1989. In 2016, Odeon was the largest cinema chain in the United Kingdom by market share (although the Irish cinemas were also included within this figure).

Exploring The UK's LAST EVER ABC Cinema
Todays we explore an abandoned ABC cinema the last one to close down in the Uk. Also we find loads of crazy stuff left inside this could also be one of the best explores this year for me.
History
Cinema was built for and operated by Associated British Cinemas(ABC), and was designed by their ‘in-house’ architect William Riddle Glen. It opened on 19th June 1937 with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in Shall We Dance.
On 31st May 1951, the World Premiere of the British musical film Happy Go Lovely starring Vera Ellen & David Niven was held at the Westover Cinema. The premiere was attended by film stars Bebe Daniels, Ben Lyon, Googie Withers and music hall artist George Robey. Also in 1951, the UK Premiere of the MGM film Showboat starring Howard Keel was held here. In March 1958, the ? Cinema was re-named ABC. They closed the ABC on 4th January 2017 with a special screening of “Back to the Future”.

Alice Cooper live at Odeon Birmingham, England 1986
Alice Cooper's Constrictor tour 1986. Live interview and concert footage from the Odeon theatre, Birmingham during 3/4/5 December 1986.
A memorable show and great looking stage set which saw Alice in top form. Alien Sex Fiend supported Alice.
I worked as a stage technician at the Odeon and was onstage operating a follow spot up a tower on stage right (left of the picture) you can clearly see my beam of light as I followed Alice through the show for 3 consecutive evenings during December 1986. It seems like yesterday.
Great rock and roll days!

LOOOOOOOOL
Exploring Britain's Last ABC Cinema... and we found LOADS!
► THE EXPLORE: This location is one I have wanted to do for a long time but I was under the impression that it was no longer accessible. BUT... we found a way ;) And I'm glad we did. This place held SOOO much history and also memories for me as it was a Cinema that I had visited more than once when it was open.
► SITE HISTORY: Built in 1937 and closed in 2017 this iconic ABC Cinema was the very last of its kind open in the UK. The cinema opened back in 1937 to the likes of Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers. And it closed with the very last film being 1985's Back to the Future at the request of local customers. The cinema operated for a little under 80 years and has some amazing history linked with the site. The site was closed by Odeon when they announced plans for a brand new multiplex in the area. The ABC cinema closed along with the site a few doors down that was also internally linked which was an Odeon cinema to make way for the new venture. Both now stand abandoned. This video ONLY shows the ABC side of the site, but we hope to get into the other side soon.

'The Day the Music Died' - Birmingham Odeon
A short piece from local television 1987,breaking the news that the Birmingham Odeon would be closing to live music and returning to a cinema once again. It was a sad day for live music.
Isn't it about time we had it back ?
Places to see in ( Dorchester - UK )
Places to see in ( Dorchester - UK )
Dorchester is the county town of Dorset, England. Dorchester is situated between Poole and Bridport on the A35 trunk route. A historic market town, Dorchester is on the banks of the River Frome to the south of the Dorset Downs and north of the South Dorset Ridgeway that separates the area from Weymouth, 7 miles (11 km) to the south.
The area around Dorchester was first settled in prehistoric times. The Romans established a garrison there after defeating the Durotriges tribe, calling the settlement that grew up nearby Durnovaria; they built an aqueduct to supply water and an amphitheatre on an ancient British earthwork. After the departure of the Romans, Dorchester diminished in significance, but during the medieval period became an important commercial and political centre. It was the site of the Bloody Assizes presided over by Judge Jeffreys after the Monmouth Rebellion, and later the trial of the Tolpuddle Martyrs.
The Brewery Square redevelopment project is taking place in phases, with other development projects planned. The town has a land-based college, Kingston Maurward College, the Thomas Hardye Upper School, three middle schools and thirteen first schools. The Dorset County Hospital offers an accident and emergency service, and the town is served by two railway stations. Through vehicular traffic is routed round the town by means of a bypass. The town has a football club and a rugby union club, several museums and the biannual Dorchester Festival. It is twinned with three towns in Europe. As well as having many listed buildings, a number of notable people have been associated with the town. It was for many years the home and inspiration of the author Thomas Hardy, whose novel The Mayor of Casterbridge uses a fictionalised version of Dorchester as its setting.
Dorchester town centre is sited about 55 to 80 metres (180 to 262 ft) above sea-level on gently sloping ground beside the south bank of the River Frome. Measured directly, it is about 7 miles (11 km) north of Weymouth, 18 miles (29 km) SSE of Yeovil in Somerset, and 20 miles (32 km) west of Poole.
The town has two railway stations. Dorchester South is on the South Western Main Line to Bournemouth, Southampton and London is operated by South West Trains; Dorchester West, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, is on the Heart of Wessex Line, operated by GWR and connects with Yeovil, Bath and Bristol. As part of the regeneration at the Brewery Site in the town centre, Dorchester South railway station will become the first solar powered railway station in the UK.
