Is this Really Brazil? Tropical Caribbean Island in Brazil? This is Ilhabela in Sao Paulo State
We’ve found the most amazing hidden gem in Brazil, a beautiful tropical island in Sao Paulo state called Ilhabela!
As soon as we arrived in Sao Paulo we hopped on a bus and a ferry and made our way to Ilhabela. It took about 5 hours by bus to get there (and a very short ferry ride).
On our first full day there we rent some bikes to explore the island. The main town has fantastic bike paths which made it so easy to get around. We biked outside of town and stopped at some beaches along the way.
Ilhabela seems to have some beautiful metal sculptures throughout the town and along our bike ride we found a whole series together that we think depicts the crucifixion of Jesus.
The bike paths ends at a gorgeous and quiet beach (Praia do Pequeá) that had one restaurant and hardly any other people. Here we flew the drone and enjoyed a caipirinha (a Brazilian cocktail).

Sailing to Secret Beaches in Brazil. Must See São Paulo State Island. Ilhabela is Beautiful.
We spent a day doing a day trip around Ilhabela, Brazil visiting a couple of different beaches by sailboat.
We picked up the boat in town. Unfortunately we went on this boat trip on a Saturday and it was just packed with people. The cost of the trip was about $20 USD per person (but didn’t include any food or drinks just transport).
We made two beach stops during the day, the first was to a beach called Praia da Fome. It was a smaller beach and had one restaurant.
The second stop was to Jabaquara Beach and was bigger than the first beach and there were a few different restaurants here as well as some bathrooms and amenities.
This video was filmed before the Amazon fires and the current crisis in Brazil. If you want more information or wondering how you can help, or where you can donate, this article is really helpful:

Trip to Ilhabela, Sao Paulo, Brazil
Rising steeply from the narrow strait that divides it from the continent, the 350-sq-km Ilhabela (Beautiful Island) earns its name from its volcanic peaks, beautiful beaches, dense tropical jungle and some 360 waterfalls. Almost 85% of the island has been turned into a park and Unesco-protected biosphere, which shelters a remarkable profusion of plant and animal life, including toucans and capuchin monkeys. A haunt of pirates in the 16th and 17th centuries, its waters are scattered with shipwrecks, many of which make for excellent diving. The island also proffers jungle hiking, windsurfing and beach-lazing.
Be aware that in the height of summer the bugs are murder, especially the little bloodsuckers known as borrachudos. Use plenty of insect repellent at all times. Summer is also when the island is packed with vacationing Paulistas. Also try to avoid arriving on Friday evening and/or leaving on Sunday evening, especially in summer, as traffic, the line for the ferry and spikes in accommodations prices can tarnish your experience of paradise.
CASTELHANOS, ILHABELA BRAZIL
I thought I was just heading to a beautiful island for a day of sun and swimming...little did I know I would be driving through the jungle to paradise to CASTELHANOS, ILHABELA in SAO PAULO BRAZIL.
Thank you, so much for watching and remember to ALWAYS BE POSITIVE!

Crazy guy diving at Toca waterfalls in Ilhabela, Brazil
Toca waterfalls in Ilhabela, Brazil. This is a wonderful place to go.
That guy works there. Do not attemp to do this without previous training if you wish to keep your teeth in place.
There a huge pot with mosquito repelent before you enter the place. The borachudos' bite can be truly bothersome, so you will definitely need to put on the repelent thoroughly.

How (NOT TO) Travel with Kids | My Most Stressful Travel Experience | Norway to Brazil
In July I traveled with four kids to Brazil, and this video shows part 1 out of 2 where we travel from Norway to Lisbon. We are going to a CISV camp, where kids from different countries and cultures come together to play and learn about each other. We missed our flight to Brazil, so we stayed in Portugal for a night. I do not blame CISV or TAP Air Portugal for missing the flight, I thank the airline for fixing a new flight and a hotel room for us. Watch the next part for more drama :D

IS SÃO PAULO SAFE? ???????? The Real Brazil ????????
In this week’s video from São Paulo , we travel around the city to some of the major tourist attractions and assess whether or not they are safe.
We start things off at the São Paulo Cathedral in Centro where for the first time in all our times filming, we felt like we shouldn’t take our big filming camera out, instead we filmed on an iPhone. There were plenty of people around, including police officers and a lot of other tourists but we also felt like there were a lot of people watching and scooping the area. We also made our way into the beautiful cathedral to explore it.
Later we made our way just up the street to the Liberdade area of São Paulo, which happens to have the largest Japanese population outside of Japan. We felt much safer here. Of course, while in the area we had to have some sushi and Japanese cuisine.
Later in the day we headed to one of the main streets in the whole city called Paulista Avenue. Because it was the weekend, the entire street was shut down for pedestrians, bikers, scooters and skateboarders. There were also loads of street performers and vendors.
Lastly we headed back to our very nearby hotel, the InterContinental São Paulo to show you around our One bedroom Executive Suite and the amenities of the hotel.
To find out more and book this hotel, head here ????
ABOUT SAO PAULO
São Paulo, Brazil’s vibrant financial center, is among the world's most populous cities, with numerous cultural institutions and a rich architectural tradition. Its iconic buildings range from its neo-Gothic cathedral and the 1929 Martinelli skyscraper to modernist architect Oscar Niemeyer’s curvy Edifício Copan. The colonial-style Pátio do Colégio church marks where Jesuit priests founded the city in 1554.
