Camping Spartacus Pompei Italy
Spartacus Camping
I'm sure that way back in the good ol'days, say 1515 yrs ago, back when Pompei was just a child, mothers would send their sons down the graceful countryside to the archard of lemon and oranges, flowering the toes of Vesuvius, for some fruit.
This orchard was transformed in 1975 to be the very 1st campground in all of Pompei. The founder,a wonderful man by the name DON GENNARO, seems to have passed his warm personality along to the younger generation of staff whom are happy to help and lager to please.
Each grassy site, seperated by flowers,is outfitted with eletricity and water, and of course heighbors from all over the world.Young and old alike, they sleep soundly in tents, campers or the bungalow provided.
Not only is this campground in the middle of this small world, but it has its own minimarket, internet point, laundry facilites, bar, pizzeria, restaurant, bathrooms for disabled,a childrens playing area, ping pong table and wonderful camper service.
Camping Spartacus also recieved the Seal of quality wich was a proud day for Don Gennaro.
Spartacus is running all day and night with open arms and warm beds.
So please come; make friends and stay longer than expected.
Pompeii: The Flames of the End
Life is sweet, if you are not a slave, if you are a Roman Citizen. The Empire extends from Spain to the Black Sea, from Britannia to Egypt. After the year of four emperors, 69 CE, Rome has been under the firm and stable rule of Emperor Vespasian for ten years. The Emperor has just started building the Flavian Amphitheatre, which will be known as Colosseum.
For the moment, you are content with your own local gladiatorial shows in an Arena that can sit half the population of your rich and beautiful town.

Rome to Pompeii day trip
Rome to Pompeii day trip - In this video our day trip from Rome to Pompeii is shown. It's a fully guided tour which started in Rome from Piazza del Populo as the pickup place. And at 7:30 we departed from a nearby bus to Naples.
It's a 3 hour drive with lot's of stories and explanations about Naples and Pompeii and halfway we had a stop at a bar.
The destination on our way was at the Naples national museum which shown lot's of statues, art and objects found in Pompeii. Note during summertime the Vesuvius vulcano is explored but due to current weather conditions we now explored the museum instead.
Besides the beautifull statues found in this museum. Especially interesting is also the forbidden section of the museum which is now open to the public. The reason this section has been forbidden by the public is because it contains lots of art and objects with mature related subjects.
From the museum it was a short ride to the restaurant close to Pompeii where pizzas were served. And afterwards we went to Pompeii. Guided by a local guide we spend 2 hours in Pompei exploring this magnificent city.
Lot's of interesting places are visited like the amphi theater, the gladiotor training area, houses of special people and stories about what has taken place in the ancient times.
Pompeii is huge, it once was a city with more then 25.000 people living there so in 2 hours only a portion of Pompeii can be explored. Unlike things like the Roman Forum which can be explored in an hour this area is huge.
It's amazing that with a town this old so many details, like inscriptions on walls, wall paintings and objects are still in relative good shape,

√ Plans and streetscapes of Pompeii and Herculaneum | Ancient History
#iitutor #AncientHistory #LifeAtPompeiiAndHerculaneum
Pompeii had about 15,000-20,000 people. In land area it covered about 160 hectares. It was surrounded by a wall which had 11 watch towers. Access to the city was through eight arched gateways in the wall. Within the walls Pompeii was divided into blocks intersected by straight well made streets paved with stones. Roads had gutters which carried away rain water and waste. There were raised footpaths for pedestrians. Public fountains provided plenty of fresh water for residents and travelers. Underground lead pipes carried water to some of the private houses. There were many public amenities. Three public baths An extensive exercise ground. The Palaastra, complete with
a swimming pool, An amphitheatre and Two theatres. There was also a forum. The forum was like the CBD in today’s cities, it was the centre of the city, where many important buildings were located. It had Law courts, Banks, and A market place. The forum also had other public buildings. It had many temples and public shrines. The forum was a large open area that was surrounded by the important buildings. Herculaneum was a smaller city with about 5000 people. It also had a wall around it. It was located by the sea. It had many beautiful buildings. Much of the city is still underground. The city is located about 7km from Mt Vesuvius.
The four housing blocks excavated so far reveal straight and regular streets, paved and well drained. The main street, the Decumanus Maximus, is wide with well-constructed footpaths on both sides. There were some magnificent villas beyond the town overlooking the sea. This is a picture of the Villa of the Papyri a magnificent residence that existed in Herculaneum. It is called the Villa of the Papyri because of the Papyrus scrolls that have been found inside. This is a replica of the Villa of the Papyri, it is part of the J. Paul Getty Museum in California. Here is a picture of what its believed the Villa of the Papyri would have looked like. It was already 250 years old when it was destroyed by the volcanic eruption.

The characteristic of this building is that it hosted in the ancient world the practice of prostitution that was common practice in the ancient city of Pompeii. At present it is the only Lupanare known not only in Pompeii but in the entire classical world and therefore is an interest for the study of this social phenomenon that is prostitution, which, in the ancient world, was obviously active, just as it is nowadays.

We were surprised to find that in the 1950's (restoration) intervention very poor and simple materials were used, like small textures that wouldn't be used nowadays, solidifying coating of poor quality. We can can understand it because of the difficulties of the subsequent post-war crisis. So we had to deal with this problem trying not to undo and redo everything in order not to upset the situation, and we preferred to restore, complete, revive, etcetera.
31. Gates opening onto restored vineyard, oldest in Pompeii, that has recently been reopened and used to make local wine.

LEAD IN :
It was the jewel of Pompeii's liberal society ... a brothel decorated with frescoes of erotic figures.
The establishment was believed to be the most popular in the ancient Roman city.
The Lupanare, which derives its name from the Latin word lupa or prostitute, is now open again to the public after being restored over the past year.
STORYLINE:
Pompeii was destroyed in A.D. 79 by a huge eruption of Mount Vesuvius, that killed thousands of people, and buried the city in 6 metres (20 feet) of volcanic ash.
The eruption did, however, preserve Pompeii for 1,600 years, providing precious information on what life was like in the ancient world.
Among the buildings was the two-story brothel with 10 rooms, five on each floor, and a latrine.
The restoration project wasn't cheap ... it cost US$253,000 (US dollars) to restore Pompeii's famous brothel to its former glory.
Each tiny room on the ground floor bears a fresco of a different sex scenes painted over its door.
The upper floor was for higher-ranking clients.
Guzzo says this is the only brothel of the ancient world which has survived until modern times.

Who Invented the Chicken Nugget?
Who Really Invented the Tea Bag?
In this video:
On June 8, 2017, Greek-born, Canadian-bred pizza maker Sam Panopoulos died. His career slinging pies was rather unremarkable save for one notable thing – he was the inventor of the popular, yet infamous pineapple-topped “Hawaiian Pizza,” named as such because of the brand of canned fruit he used. Loved by some and hated by others, the sweet and salty pizza is so controversial that it once triggered an argument between friendly nations. While such arguments rage on both sides of it being a delicacy or an abomination, the fact is that the Hawaiian pizza is actually not Hawaiian- it’s Canadian. Here now is the story of pizza and the man who decided to add pineapples to it.

Fourth Style Paintings at the House of the Vettii, west triclinium, Pompeii. AD79
The House of the Vettii (VI.15.1) at Pompeii is closed to the public while it is restored. It's been closed for several years already and it won't be open for a long while yet. I managed to get in with a custodian for a few minutes recently and was able to film the two triclinia (dining rooms). This is the west triclinium. Unfortunately the atrium was inaccessible and the peristyle packed with scaffolding.

SUMMARY
=======
Pompeii () was an ancient Roman city near modern Naples in the Campania region of Italy, in the territory of the comune of Pompei. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area (e.g. at Boscoreale, Stabiae), was buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Many of the inhabitants were also buried before they could escape.
The catastrophe was described in a surviving letter by Pliny the Younger who saw the eruption from a distance and described the death of his uncle Pliny the Elder, an admiral of the Roman fleet, who tried to rescue citizens. The site was eventually lost until its initial rediscovery in 1599 and broader rediscovery almost 150 years later by Spanish engineer Rocque Joaquin de Alcubierre in 1748. The city has been largely preserved because of lack of air and moisture. The artefacts preserved provide an extraordinarily detailed insight into the life of the city. During excavations liquid plaster was used to fill the voids in the ash that once held human and animal bodies, giving often gruesome images of their last moments.
Pompeii has been a tourist destination for over 250 years. Today it has UNESCO World Heritage Site status and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy, with approximately 2.5 million visitors every year.Excavations recommenced in 2018 in the unexplored Regio V area of the city and new discoveries are being reported.
The Roman Empire. Or Republic. Or...Which Was It?: Crash Course World History #10
In which John Green explores exactly when Rome went from being the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire. Here's a hint: it had something to do with Julius Caesar, but maybe less than you think. Find out how Caesar came to rule the empire, what led to him getting stabbed 23 times on the floor of the senate, and what happened in the scramble for power after his assassination. John covers Rome's transition from city-state to dominant force in the Mediterranean in less than 12 minutes. Well, Rome's expansion took hundreds of years, he just explains it in under 12 minutes. The senate, the people, Rome, the caesarian section, the Julian calendar and our old friend Pompey all make appearances, but NOT the Caesar Salad, as Julius had nothing to do with it.

LYRICS
Mother, do you think they'll drop the bomb?
Mother, do you think they'll like this song?
Mother, do you think they'll try to break my balls?
Ooooh aah, mother, should I build the wall?
Mother, should I run for president?
Mother, should I trust the government?
Mother, will they put me in the firing line?
Ooooh aah, is it just a waste of time?
Hush now, baby, baby, don't you cry
Mama's gonna make all of your nightmares come true
Mama's gonna put all of her fears into you
Mama's gonna keep you right here under her wing
She won't let you fly but she might let you sing
Mama's gonna keep baby cosy and warm
Ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe
Of course Mama's gonna help build the wall
Mother, do you think she's good enough?
Mother, do you think she's dangerous?
Mother, will she tear your little boy apart?
Oooh aah, mother, will she break my heart?
Hush now, baby, baby, don't you cry
Mama's gonna check out all your girlfriends for you
Mama won't let anyone dirty get through
Mama's gonna wait up till you get in
Mama will always find out where you've been
Mamma's gonna keep baby healthy and clean
Ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe
You'll always be a baby to me
Mother, didn't need to be so high
