I have toured many of the old plantations through the Virginias and other places in the U. S. of A. and Oak Alley Plantation, Vacherie, Louisiana is the best maintained in my eyes, both inside and out. It is in pristine condition.
Oak Alley Plantation, Vacherie, Louisiana (near New Orleans)
Oak Alley Plantation is located on River Rd. in Vacherie, Louisiana (near New Orleans). A magnificent 1/4 mile long avenue, formed by 28 massive live oaks, leads to the spectacular Grande Dame of the Great River Rd. antebellum mansions. It is breathtakingly beautiful.

Oak Alley Plantation, Louisiana
Oak Alley Plantation is a historic plantation located on the Mississippi River in the community of Vacherie, Louisiana, United States. It is protected as a National Historic Landmark. It is named after its distinguishing feature, an alley or canopied path created by a double row of live oak trees about 800 feet (240 meters) long, planted in the early 18th century – long before the present house was built. The alley runs between the house and the Mississippi River.

Oak Alley Plantation, Vacherie, Louisiana - Beyonce's Deja Vu Video & Many Movies Shot Here
We visited this plantation during our recent trip through the South. Most historical homes make it clear that no drinks or food are allowed during this tour. This one actually sells drinks -- including lemonade and the family Mint Julep recipe -- at the beginning of the tour and welcomes you to take them with you! Drink and Tour! That you have to love!! :) They also have a wonderful restaurant that serves great traditional Southern dishes! They did a great job at preserving the buildings where the slaves lived, and providing a lot of information on what their lives were like. Many movies and music videos have been filmed here. You can go on their web site to see a list. Beyonce's Deja Vu video was shot here, along with scenes in movies such as Interview With a Vampire, Primary Colors, Nightrider and Midnight Bayou. Definitely a great place to visit and a perfect day trip from New Orleans; I think it was about an hour drive from there.
The Oak Alley Plantation, plus a Surprise Bonus!
This is the story of Oak Alley Plantation of Vacherie, LA and the lives it impacted, for good or ill. While you listen, think not only of the unfortunate enslaved souls toiling under the constant supervision of their masters, but of the contempt for the neaveau riche that the families with old money of the Northern states and the wealth bestowed upon opportunistic, yet gravely misguided, planters of old southern Louisiana.
Also enclosed is a bonus story! Enjoy!

USA East Coast 7: Oak Alley & Laura Plantation
Near to New Orleans, we took the chance and visited two plantations. Due to our guide book be choose the Oak Alley Plantation and the Laura Plantation. Both sugar plantations, but with different appearance and history. The guide of the Laura Plantation was very very good, and the Oak Alley Plantation is simply beautiful, although both of them were build by exploitation of slaves. Have a look!

When you come to explore New Orleans, you shouldn't leave without visiting at least one of the sugarcane plantations along the Mississippi river. The Oak Alley Plantation picked my interest for its magnificent landscape and a large antebellum mansion.

25 Celebrity Equinox: A Tour of the Oak Alley Plantation Grounds
February 27, 2017. We visited one of the remaining sugar plantations of Louisiana. Known for its avenue of oak trees.
Oak Alley Plantation, Louisiana
The spectacular quarter-mile canopy of 28 evenly spaced giant live oak trees, believed to be nearly 300 years old, forms an impressive avenue leading to the classic Greek-revival style antebellum home built in 1839. The opulence of the home has been authentically restored to its original grandeur. Daily tours of the mansion are conducted by guides dressed in period costumes and are given every half hour, generally lasting 35 to 40 minutes. Visitors may walk the well-manicured grounds at their leisure with the help of a grounds map. Be sure to try one of our famous mint juleps while strolling the grounds, this will make you feel like Rhett and Scarlet from a bygone era, as you retreat to the peace and tranquility of plantation life. The Grounds open at 9:00 a.m. and tours begin at 10:00 a.m. last tour is 4:40 p.m. Monday through Friday and 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
