JB's Journal - Oak Grove cemetary
Oak Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches is filled with historical figures from Texas history. J.B. Smith traveled to what’s considered the oldest city in Texas to visit the historical resting ground of so many of Texas’ important settlers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Graves from the original cemetery for early Nacogdoches were relocated to Oak Grove when the courthouse was erected on that site. The cemetery is open to the public to tour.

LaNana Creek Part 2
THE LANANA CREEK TRAIL
The LaNana Creek Trail began as a project of Nacogdoches Texas Sesquicentennial in
1966. The purpose was to construct a 2-1/2 mile hiking-biking path extending from Main Street north to
East Austin Street. The Sesquicentennial Committee's plan was to preserve, beautify, and utilize the flood banks of LaNana Creek for the people of Nacogdoches, and to leave the LaNana Creek Trail as a lasting remembrance of Texas 150th birthday.
The trail was once a pathway for Nacogdoches Indians, a tribe of the Caddo Confederacy who
Who lived on the high ground between LaNana and Banita creeks. Nacogdoches means The place that is high in the Caddo language. Spanish colonials walked the trail along the creek and built their town of Nacogdoches between the two creeks. The trail is now in the most historic area of old Nacogdoches. Near the beginning of The Trail is Camino Real Park are the homes of Haden Edwards and Adolphus Sterne, the New Orleans Greys' campground, Oak Grove Cemetery, Zion Hill Cemetery, and the Holy Springs of Father Margil.
The LaNana Creek Trail runs north from Camino Real through Margil Park and the Eyes of Father Margil. The trail follows LaNana Creek through Pecan Acres Park to the Stephen F. Austin State University campus. The SFA Mast Arboretum and Tucker Woods are on university land. The trail ends in the north at Jimmy Hinds Park on East Austin Street.
LaNana Creek Trail was cleared and constructed by volunteers under committee guidance of F.E. Abernathy, Chairman Archie McDonald, John Anderson, and Carroll Schoenewolf.

Nacogdoches, Texas 09-18-2013
This is downtown Nacogdoches, Texas, circling the town square...the oldest town in Texas. Most of these buildings probably date back to the early 1900's. I still remember these brick streets as a child back in the early 1950's. Many of the stores have changes hands, but basically, the buildings are the same now as it was back when I was a kid. There was a kid a few years older than me that lived next door to my Grandparents house on 210 Elm Street on my Mothers side and I want to say that I remember their name as Craig, but I could be wrong...it has been a while. I do remember that they had a drug store in town...Craig's drug store, I think. The movie theater on the left at 1:52 was called The Main and I spent many hours in there watching movies. The other movie theater was The SFA located on North Street. I think both have been closed for years. After I pass The Main theater, I make a U-turn and go back thru town heading West until I get to the main highway intersection. There I make a left turn onto highway 259 and head South towards Lufkin. Nacogdoches is a double cool town and well worth a visit especially if you like history.

#2 - 06-23-2016 In Nacogdoches, Texas
Just left the Sunset Memorial Garden cemetery and heading to my motel on the South side of town. I am going to take the loop as it will be faster and I wont have to deal with about 25 traffic lights. I dont know if it shows on this video or not, but I came back later and ate some BBQ at this BBQ House. It wasnt as good as I was expecting. I had a combo plate of chicken and sliced beef. The beef was FAIR but the chicken was terrible. Seems like the chicken comes as a flat patty and tasted something like a flavored card board. Wont be going back to this place again, but just a warning to all who might consider going here. The staff here are great, but the food...I will go to McDonalds next time before going back to the BBQ House.

Preserve America- Cemetery Interpretation Project- Legal Aspects of Cemeteries with Dr. George Avery
Dr. George Avery presented a lecture on legal aspects that protect cemeteries at the Preservation & Heritage Tourism Workshop located on Stephen F. Austin State University campus on March 12, 2010. He discusses the federal laws that relate to cemetery protection such as, Antiquities Act of 1906, Archaeological Resource Protections Act of 1979, and Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) of 1990. Dr. Avery talks about the Texas cemetery laws that relate to cemeteries located in chapters 694-716 of the Texas Health & Safety Code laws. He then defines two terms, cemetery and grave, by law standards and discusses American Indians' burials. Lastly, he explains to the group that any human burial in Texas is protected by Texas laws. Dr. Avery mixed the date for the creation of the Archaeological Resource Protections Act as 1997, when the act was created in 1979.
