Oaklands Mansion continues Candlelight Tour in downtown Murfreesboro

There are plenty of holiday activities around town, but how about one you'll walk away from with a history lesson?
The Oaklands Mansion's annual Candlelight Tour in Downtown Murfreesboro is Saturday.
For more than 30 years, candles have lit the way as people explore the historic.
On Saturday, tour guides will be stationed throughout the Oaklands Mansion dressed in a 17th century outfit with a history lesson.
“You can walk through the house at your own leisure. And you can stay as long as you want,” said the museum's Executive Director James Manning.
The tour also features several private homes that are also rich in history.
“As you go throughout the tour, each stop will be different because they are all private homes,” explained Manning. “Some of them will let you go upstairs; some of the houses will be downstairs only. Some of them will have friends that will be stationed throughout the house to tell you how they acquired the house or restored it or if it's been in the family.
The tour is on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Advanced tickets are $12.50 on the museum's website. On Saturday tickets will be $15 for adults and $5 for kids at the door.
You can buy a ticket at any of the stops on the tour.
Julia's Bakery will be downtown with tasty holiday treats and warm cups of hot chocolate and apple cider during the event.

Murfreesboro Storytellers Special: The House Still Standing
“The House Still Standing” documents the local and family history of the Gannaway/Ganaway name.
Burrell Gannaway (1785-1853) was a slaveholder and Rutherford County pioneer who fought in the war of 1812 and served as one of Murfreesboro’s first alderman. King Daniel Ganaway (1884-1944) was a descendant of a slave, owned by Gannaway, who joined the early 1900 Great Migration from the South to Chicago to become a celebrated African American photographer.
Their contrasting stories are told in a CityTV documentary highlighting the work of genealogists who revealed the silenced story of their ancestor while uncovering a local history.
