A Peaceful Walk Through Oamaru Public Gardens | New Zealand Sightseeing
Hi, everybody! Today I went to Oamaru and got to walk through the Oamaru Public Gardens which are just fantastic! I love all the different parts to the gardens and the little details. They have a relly nice Chinese section with a beautiful red bridge and Rock Garden. When my brothers and I were younger we enjoyed feeding the ducks at the duck pond. Today I saw some Canadian geese. The Oamaru Public Gardens are so peaceful and definitely worth a visit if you are sightseeing around New Zealand.

Oamaru has become a centre for the crazy sci-fi Victorian mashup that is steampunk. We head toward the old quarter of Oamaru and park up at the Steampunk headquarters. The friendly attendee is from Macedonia. She’s tucked tightly between the counter and a bar heater. They offer dress ups for $5 so I’m in. We strike a deal where we take the dress ups to go film a song and I leave behind a musical instrument as collateral.
Oamaru gardens are in full pruning mode and we find the rotunda over a cute bridge. I have a political song that’s kinda punk from back in the eighties called ‘policies’. Back when I knew three chords and was full of ideals…well maybe not too much has changed. The binocular spectacles prevent any vision at all, so I am singing blindfold. Given the option of being a punk or a hippy, I chose a hippy because I didn’t possess the anger to be a convincing punk. So if anyone more appropriate wants to cover this song, go ahead.
No one in Oamaru blinks an eye at my costume; I am given a nod of appreciation from general public as I walk back to the car through the park.
This is the end of our Canterbury tour. It was made possible by the generosity of friends who hosted us and lent us their car. I recall how I investigated funding from Creative New Zealand. They give money for transport and accommodation. They explained that I would need a tour plan with dates and estimated audience at each location. From this experience, I know I can only guarantee one human (the person filming) and three birds. There have been at least three birds everywhere I sing so far. The venue location is subject to change, depending on new local information, such as with New Brighton and Temuka. I don’t think this arrangement is going to cut it with Creative New Zealand. They also do not fund music videos, I was told to apply to NZ on Air for that…yeah right.
Last year the Henderwood whanau came up with a family motto
‘Henderwood’s - making it up as we go along.’
This seems to be working for us so far. So thanks friends.

This is volume is based around Palmerston North with shots on the NIMT north and south and on the PNGL into the Manawatu gorge, some of the last shots with road traffic in the background. Some summer 2017 early mornings with the Capital Connection setting up. Some may think I overdid these but at the time the Capital Connection was under a bit of doubt into the future as were the EF class which decided I needed to get more coverage of also. A few 200/201 at Palmy. A train up and one down on near the top of the Papatawa bank. A Dc bringing the Capital Connection 1206 home and shunting the coaches away for the night.
