Starling Murmuration Oare Creek Marshes Faversham 2010
Video shot looking over Oare Marshes Reserve at the junction of Oare and Faversham creek Kent UK.
The reserve, managed by the Kent Wildlife Trust, consists of some 170 acres of grazing marsh, dissected by fresh and brackish water dykes and bounded by an earth seawall and some salt marsh.
The area is of international importance for migratory, overwintering and breeding wetland birds. Suitable habitat is achieved through manipulation of water levels and livestock grazing.
The reserve supports an exciting and diverse range of birds. Among breeding species found here are avocet, redshank, snipe, lapwing, water rail, bearded reedling, common tern and garganey. Migrating species - black-tailed godwit, ruff, little stint, curlew sandpiper and whimbrel.
Overwintering - Brent goose, dunlin, curlew, wigeon, merlin, hen harrier, short-eared owl, bittern and twite
If visiting the area, make sure you pay a visit to the unspoilt, 3oo year old, Shipwrights Arms.

Oare Marshes and sunken barges january 2020 - dmenglo diaries
#Landscape #Photography #Oare
A january visit to the Oare Marshes Nature Reserve near Faversham in Kent. A storm (Brendan) was coming in from the west and the winds caused some camera movement during the timelapse. The strong low winter sun which I wanted for the shoot was fleeting to say the least. Towards the mouth of the river and not far from the coastal path are a number of abandonned barges which are sinking into the mud. For the most part they are still visible when the tide is high but this time I wanted to capture the early moments of high tide as the rising water begins to cover the muddy river bank.

Ruff (Philomachus pugnax) Oare Marshes on 7 Feb 2014
Ruff (Philomachus pugnax) - The ruff is a medium-sized wading bird. It has a long neck, a small head, a rather short slightly droopy bill and medium-long orange or reddish leg. In flight it shows a faint wing-stripe and oval white patches either side of the tail.

Reserves Guide - Pegwell Bay Country Park
The Country Park at Pegwell Bay is part of the Sandwich and Pegwell bay reserve, the biggest run by Kent Wildlife Trust at 635 hectares. Internationally important for waders and as a stopover for migrating birds
Ruff - Birds of Britain
When Ruff migrate through Britain in autumn the males often retain partial breeding plumage making them quite distinctive, although variable in colouration. This one is feeding intensely, in order to refuel for its ongoing migration.
Filmed August 2018 at Oare Marshes, Kent, UK.

Saving Special Places: North Kent Marshes
With its industrial landscape and port developments, at first glance the Thames estuary is not the most romantic of locations. But alongside the modern infrastructure wildlife thrives in the mudflats, saltmarshes and lagoons that fringe the river. The Thames is already a nature hotspot, but now it’s at risk from proposals to build a new airport for London.
Walk along the Medway
Riverside Country Park in Gillingham. This was taken at the Copperhouse Lane entrance. Riverside Country Park is one of Medway's beautiful country parks and an ideal location for a walk, run or cycle.
The park covers 100 hectares alongside the Medway Estuary, including Motney Hill and Berengrave Local Nature Reserve.
There are various habitats within the park, including mudflats and salt marsh, ponds and reed-beds, grassland and scrub, which provide a haven for wildlife.
The estuary has special protection as part of the Medway Marshes Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is internationally important for wintering birds that thrive on the invertebrate-rich mudflats. The salt marshes have a specialised ecology and act as high tide roost sites.
Riverside Country Park has received a Green Flag Award, the national standard for quality parks and green spaces. Winners are judged to be welcoming and well-maintained, with the support and involvement of the local community.(taken from Medway Website).
