Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the White House on Tuesday, April 28 to discuss free trade and, apparently, anime.
Today is a chance for Americans, especially our young people, to say thank you for all the things we love from Japan. Like karate and karaoke. Manga and anime. And, of course, emojis, said President Obama on the meeting, as the two addressed the press.

Japan welcomes Obama Hiroshima visit
The Japanese government has welcomed Barack Obama's decision to visit Hiroshima later this month.
Obama will be the first serving US president to go to the city since it was hit by an atomic bomb in 1945.
140,000 people died in the attack often credited for helping to bring world war two to an end.

On Thursday, President Obama visited the Japanese Embassy in Washington, D.C., where he wrote a note of condolence to the Japanese people. He made a brief statement afterward saying, we are doing everything we can to stand by our great friend and ally, Japan, in this hour of need. More coverage:
No apology from President Obama as he visits Hiroshima

President Obama reported to visit Japan's Hiroshima
Japan's newspaper Nikkei reports that the United States will propose a visit of President Barack Obama to Hiroshima, the first such trip by an incumbent US president to the city devastated by US nuclear bombs over 70 years ago. However, the Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary denied the visit was being arranged, and declined further comment.

Obama Brings Together Japanese, South Korean Leaders
President Obama has brought together the leaders of Japan and South Korea to discuss cooperation on containing North Korea and its nuclear weapons programs. Japan and North Korea have had tense relations over unresolved issues, some of them dating back 100 years. VOA's Zlatica Hoke reports.
U.S. President Obama to make 2-day state visit to Japan: Kishida
Contrary to earlier reports, U.S. President Barack Obama's upcoming state visit to Japan will be
for two days, not three.
That's according to Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, who on Friday said the U.S.
president is expected to arrive in Japan on April 24th.
Reports emerged this week that Obama was considering a three-day stay in Japan starting the
23rd, after Tokyo said two days would be too short to mark the significance of his state visit.
The U.S. leader is then expected to travel to Korea for two days.
Obama's latest Asia tour comes at a time of strained Seoul-Tokyo ties after Japan's repeated
denials of its imperialistic aggressions.
