Welcome to day 8 of our Iceland trip!
Day 8:
- It was an hour and a half drive from the campground to our first stop at Hvitserkur Rock, and amazing rock feature on the beach that looks like an enormous animal drinking.
- From there, we walked along the beach to Osar, where there is a seal colony, it is about a 15 min walk south of Hvitserkur Rock.
- Then we drove around the Vatsnes Peninsula stopping at various points ( Illugastadir, Svalbard) to see more seals as well as having lunch.
- After that we took the long drive into West Iceland to the beautiful town of Drangsnes where we ended the day bathing in the free hot tubs right next to the sea, fantastic!

NATURAL WONDERS OF GREENLAND AND ICELAND CRUISE, NordicSaga
EXPLORE THE LAND OF FIRE AND ICE ABOARD OCEAN DIAMOND
Discover the immense variety of the world’s biggest island on this grand tour of Greenland: the beautiful and fertile, deep south with its fascinating Viking history; Nuuk, a modern capital in a traditional Inuit society; Ilulissat, the town of icebergs and its UNESCO World Heritage site, the Ilulissat Ice Fjord. All are part of this unforgettable journey aboard the Ocean Diamond.
Day 1: Reykjavik
Individual arrival or use our comfortable Air&Ground Package. Use the day in Reykjavik to explore the highlights of the world’s northernmost national capital city on your own, or book one of our exciting pre-cruise programs and discover Reykjavik and its surroundings by land or air. The Ocean Diamond docks in the old harbor located in the heart of town which is a 5-minute walk to the inner city. The ship will depart Reykjavik harbor at 6 p.m.
Day 2: Stykkisholmur
Stykkisholmur is the starting point for our explorations of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, which juts out from Iceland’s west coast. As a long arm with a clenched fist at its tip, the peninsula is in many ways a microcosm of the whole island. Boarding our Zodiacs, passengers will explore Breidafjördur Bay, known for its colorful bird life, unique basalt rock formations and stunning scenery.
Day 3: Day at Sea/Denmark Strait
Today we sail across the Denmark Strait towards Greenland, following a maritime route used by Norse settlers more than 900 years ago. While we’re en route, you can attend fascinating presentations by our Expedition team members to prepare you for our visit to Greenland. Or just relax and watch whales, dolphins, and seabirds from the deck or your cabin.
Day 4: Day at Sea/Prins Christian Sound
If conditions allow, we will attempt to enter the 70-mile-long Prins Christian Sound which connects the Labrador and Irminger Seas. In this narrow, often ice-choked channel, we will come so close to icebergs that you can almost reach out and touch them. Greenland’s massive inland ice cap pushes the glaciers towards the sea, where large chunks break off and become icebergs.
Day 5: Narsarsuaq
Very close to the town of Narsarsuaq lies the small settlement of Qassiarsuk, founded by the legendary Viking rebel and leader Erik the Red. He named this area “green land” because the landscape around Qassiarsuk is characterized by inviting fjords and green, fertile valleys. During this stop, you have the opportunity to learn more about the lives of the early Norse settlers and visit the reconstructions of a Viking longhouse and small turf church.
Day 6: Day at Sea
Learn more about the country and its peoples at the interesting presentations given by our knowledgeable and experienced expedition team.
Day 7: Nuuk
Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, combines Arctic traditions and European urbanity. Founded in 1728 by the Danish-Norwegian missionary Hans Egede, this is the oldest town in Greenland. With around 16,000 inhabitants, Nuuk is a bustling metropolis with a modern lifestyle compared with the rest of Greenland. Visit the sights of the city or take the time to make a “Kaffemik” and meet the locals over a cup of coffee in their homes.
Day 8: Day at Sea
The Greenland Sea is home to numerous seals, walruses, and whales. Keep your eyes open as we sail along the island’s scenic west coast.
Day 9: Ilulissat
In the morning the Diamond Ocean arrives at Ilulissat. The name means “iceberg” in Greenlandic, and the town lives up to its name – located at the mouth of the Ilulissat Ice Fjord, which is filled with enormous icebergs. The fjord has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. Enjoy the thunderous spectacle when icebergs break off from Sermeq Kujalleq glacier and plunge into the fjord. Sermeq Kujalleq is one of the most productive glaciers in the northern hemisphere and calves over 35 cubic kilometers of ice every year.
Day 10: Uummannaq/Eqip Glacier
In the morning we visit Eqip Glacier and with a little luck will witness icebergs calving into the fjord. The afternoon is spent in Uummannaq, one of the most beautiful towns in Greenland. Located on a small island about 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle, this tiny, picturesque village is at the foot of a heart-shaped mountain.
Day 11: Day at Sea
Along the coast, we travel south toward Kangerlussuaq. Enjoy the Arctic summer and admire the contrast between majestic icebergs and the riot of colors ashore.
Day 12: Kangerlussuaq
In the early morning, we arrive at the 120-mile-long Kangerlussuaq Fjord and city of the same name. It’s time to bid farewell to the Ocean Diamond. Individual departure or book our comfortable Air&Ground Package.
GOĐALAND (Land of the Gods): adventure in winter Iceland
Gođaland, Land of Gods. Discovering the beauty of Iceland in winter through the glaciers, the volcanoes, the imposing waterfalls and sea cliffs, the kingdom of ice and fire and wind and water.
00:40 The signs of the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajökull are clearly visible in the alluvional plain Markarfljótsaurar, shaken by several terrific floods (jokulhlaup) coming from the glacier, partially melted by the heat of the eruption.
1:43 Seljalandsfoss is created by the river Seljalandsá, originated from the Eyjafjallajökull glacier, that drops 60 metres over the cliffs of the former coastline. It is possible to go in a cave behind the waterfall to admire the spectacle of falling water.
Seljalandsfoss is situated in between Hvolsvöllur and Skógar at the road crossing of the Ring Road with the track going into Þórsmörk.
1:50 Skógafoss is a spectacular waterfall situated in the south of Iceland at the cliffs of the former coastline. After the coastline had receded into the sea (it is now at a distance of about 5 km from Skógafoss), the cliffs stayed behind parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometers, creating together with some mountains, a clear border between the Lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland.
With a width of 25 metres and a drop of 60 metres Skógafoss is one of the most impressive and beautiful waterfall of Iceland.
2:45 Gullfoss (the Golden Waterfall) is a waterfall located in the canyon of Hvítá (White River) in southwest Iceland. The wide Hvítá rushes southward. About a kilometer above the falls it turns sharply to the left and flows down into a wide curved three-step staircase and then abruptly plunges in two stages (11 m and 21 m) into a crevice 32 m deep. The crevice, about 20 m wide, and 2.5 km in length, is at right angles to the flow of the river.
Gullfoss, together with Þingvellir and the geysers of Haukadalur, forms the spectacular Golden Circle.
9:28 Hraunfossar, Lava Falls, is a series of waterfalls formed by rivulets streaming over a distance of about 900 meters out of the Hallmundarhraun, a lava field which flowed from an eruption of one of the volcanoes lying under the glacier Langjökull. The waterfalls pour into the Hvítá river from layers of less porous rock in the lava. The Hraunfossar are situated near Húsafell and Reykholt in the district of Borgarfjörður, west Iceland.

Iceland Day 1 - Best views of Reykjavik | $200 buffet | Crazy Rocks
We landed in Reykjavik after a six-hour flight from Edmonton, got our rental, and drove straight to our Airbnb. After settling in; we walked to the Hallgrimskirkja (crazy looking church) and found our way down to the Harpa Concert Hall. We called it an early night, but not before gorging our faces off at the buffet at Restaurant Reykjavik. We woke up the next day at 5am and took a road trip to the Glacier Lagoon (Iceland Day 2 of 3).
All costs are converted from Canadian to American dollars using a rate of .80 and are subject to vary daily.

Getting to Talknafjordur
Many of our work camps here at SEEDS Iceland are based in and around the capital city of Reykjavik. But, when one is located further away in the East, the North, or the Westfjords... the journey to get there is where the adventure really begins!
This journey was from downtown Reykjavik at the SEEDS office to the remote town of Talknafjordur in the Westfjords of Iceland using the ferry from Stykkisholmur to Flatey and finally to the Westfjords.
Find out more about what camps are available in Iceland at seeds.is, and remember to subscribe!

Snæfellsnes Peninsula (the most beautiful place) | Iceland roadtrip vlog 2019
In this third video of my epic Icelandic road trip, my brother and I visited the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, an amazing peninsula in Iceland with nothing but a few remote fishing villages and a view of the blindingly white Snaefellsjokull glacier almost everywhere you look. We started at the stunning Kirkjufellsfoss waterfalls, then visited the social media darling Budakirkja (a lonely black church). We walked across a lava field from Arnarstapi to Hellnar and ended the day at a secret, hidden hot spring at an abandoned farmhouse.
In April 2019, my brother and I set out on an adventure in Iceland. We spent 10 days exploring the epic landscapes and sights of this incredible nation steeped in history, culture and stunning natural beauty. Follow along as we walk in the footsteps of the vikings!
I am a writer, artist and traveler and share what I love and where I find creative inspiration. Thank you for visiting!
