GUAYAQUIL-ECUADOR
Salado de Guayaquil
So called salado. Not so much a river as a branching channel with ocean water. It is slightly connected to Guayas river, but oceanic tides create much more current than the river itself. The water is salty, may be slightly less than in deep ocean, but quite enough. There is a mangrove forest on opposite side. Looks like dirty and sheer, but wait for the next video.

STORYLINE:
An 18-year-old Panamanian man rescued by the Ecuadorean coast guard after being stranded for 28 days at sea near the Galapagos Islands spoke about his ordeal on Tuesday, including having to deal with his friends' death during the ordeal.
Adrian Vasquez worked in a seaside hotel in Panama and happily took up an offer by two friends to join them on a fishing trip and earn some extra cash.
Twenty-eight days later, he was found drifting alone in the 10 foot (3 metre) fishing boat.
He was in the waters off Ecuador's Galapagos Islands, more than 600 miles (1,000 kilometres) from where the trio had set out to fish.
His two friends had died, and he likely owed his survival to a sudden rainstorm, the Ecuadorean coast guard captain who helped nurse Vasquez back to health said on Monday.
My friends did not put up with the situation for long. They did not want to deal with it - they had given up, Vasquez said on Tuesday.
Vasquez was flown on Monday evening to Guayaquil on the Ecuadorean mainland, to be turned over to the Panamanian consul.
Captain Hugo Espinosa's patrol boat picked up Vasquez early on Sunday from commercial fishermen who had stumbled across the Panamanian drifting in the Pacific on Friday.
The captain said the young Panamanian recounted his incredible story after recovering over the weekend from malnutrition and severe dehydration.
Vasquez and his friends were returning to Rio Hato, Panama, where he worked at the Decameron Hotel, on 24 February aboard the Fifty Cents when its motor failed.
They tried to fix the engine on the boat, see what the problem was, but couldn't find the problem, Vasquez said.
It was about 1800 local time (2300 GMT), and they could see land.
They had caught a lot of fish, and had big jug of water.
In the first few days, as Panama's coast guard began to search for the young men, the trio grilled fish on the boat.
But then their ice melted and the fish rotted.
Oropeces Betancourt, the oldest at 24, stopped eating and drinking after two weeks.
He died on 10 March.
Three days later, his body began to decompose and Vasquez threw it over the side.
The other youth, 16-year-old Fernando Osorio, died on 15 March, also apparently of dehydration, sunburn and heat stroke.
After three days, Vasquez pushed his other friend's body into the ocean.
When he was nearly dead, on 19 March, it rained, and Vasquez was able to fill up with 4 gallons (18 litres) of water.
First I had some salt water and then, when it started to rain, I drank rain water, Vasquez said.

Parque Nacional Cajas (Ecuador) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Parque Nacional Cajas in Ecuador.
The Parque Nacional Cajas was founded in 1996 in the highlands of the western Cordilleras of the South American country of Ecuador. A single road travels through the nature park. It leads to a pass and then continues downhill towards the Pacific Ocean. From February to July the highlands are often foggy and rain and snow storms are common along with extremely low temperatures. But it is the mystical atmosphere that creates the special charm of this mountain region. The landscape resembles a tundra and is mostly located above the timber line. It is a topographically irregular area that measures around twenty nine thousand hectares, an untouched paramo region with cleft mountain ridges and deep lying valleys from which the park’s name of ‘Cajas’ is derived. The water quality of this region explains the fertile nature of the highlands and why the Canari people, and later the Incas, settled here. There are also traces of pre-Columbian times and the remains of an ancient Inca road of which several kilometres are still in excellent condition. After negotiating a few more bends, we reach the frontier post that marks the border of this splendid natural habitat, the Parque Nacional Cajas!
