I would skip Occheuteal all together if I were you! Then, unfortunately, we have to leave the camera behind as we check out the casinos.

In this video, I'd like to show you what Occheuteal Beach and its surroundings look like right now. Watch to the end, you'll see dramatic changes - mainly high-rise buildings under constructions, full swing.
Once famed for its beautiful beaches, the town has been dramatically changed by massive construction projects including many hotels and casinos.
Much of the change comes as a result of the growing influence of Chinese nationals, who have reshaped the town and surrounding province with their investment and very presence.While some locals have benefited from the Chinese influx, many others say they are being left behind.

This is from my second visit to Ochheuteal Beach (Sihanoukville Cambodia) from 2013.
Looking at it again brings back some fond memories of the beach front area of Ochheuteal and the great seafood available at so many places in Sihanoukville.
Sihanoukville City is not that appealing over all but is probably worth the 5 hour bus trip from Phnom Penh, at least until the rail link between PP and Sihanoukville is completed.
We took a car back to PP Airport and regretted almost every second of the trip. It took less than 2 hours but the traffic and conditions of the roads do not make for a relaxing trip.
Khins Shack was my favourite beach front bar and cafe.
A family run business with a nice setting, great watermelon juices, cold draught beer (US$0.50) and battered fries.
If you keep walking past Khins Shack you will find deserted stretches of undeveloped beach and eventually come to Otres Beach (over the hill and around the point) with its creepy sea caterpillars and other strange things that make piles of wormy looking sand under the water.

Sihanoukville (known by locals as ‘Kampong Som’ and by travellers as ‘Stuckville’ or ‘Sinville’) used to be a real favourite on the backpacker trail of Southeast Asia.
The much celebrated Otres Beach was a place where backpackers would plan to spend a few days and end up whiling away weeks. the super cheap backpacker beach huts, food and relatively empty beaches. However, today, Otres Beach and the whole of Sihanoukville caters to an entirely different type of tourist.
Ochheuteal Beach, known as UNTAC Beach in the early 1990s and it is now the most popular in Sihanoukville, offering the full spectrum of beach venues from upscale hotels and dining to laid-back budget beach bars and bungalows.
Ochheuteal is long, sandy and narrow, with 'Serendipity Beach' at the northern end, a golf-course development at the southern end, and a cluster of mid-range hotels and restaurants near the MP base in the middle. Grass umbrellas, rentable beach chairs and little drink huts line the beach from one end to the other.

It's a simple lifestyle and activities along the Ochheuteal Beach at Sihanoukville city in Cambodia. We can what they are selling, especially the ladies with grilled squids, Fried lobsters, Boiled Crabs, and other street foods. Foreigners are walking back and forth. Some people swimming and some are playing the sand on the beach. Some are playing football, some are taking photos freestyle or selfies, some are sitting at the table eating with their friends, families, partners. This is an activities that you will see at Sihanoukville beach in Cambodia.

Sihanoukville (known by locals as ‘Kampong Som’ and by travellers as ‘Stuckville’ or ‘Sinville’) used to be a real favourite on the backpacker trail of Southeast Asia.
In particular, the much celebrated Otres Beach was a place where backpackers would plan to spend a few days and end up whiling away weeks. The cheap marijuana probably had something to do with it, as well as the super cheap backpacker beach huts, food and relatively empty beaches. However, today, Otres Beach and the whole of Sihanoukville caters to an entirely different type of tourist.

Sihanoukville – What Happened?
Sihanoukville has undergone some serious changes in the past 5 years. Following recent Chinese investment, huge towering hotels catering to package tourists have been thrown up at a rapid rate and there are monstrous casinos practically every 100 metres.
Gone are the days of bamboo bungalows and cheap bars, the brand new restaurants and hotels serve only rich tourists who flock to spend money on expensive meals and gambling. The budget backpacker accommodation of old is becoming rare and fewer and fewer independent travellers are choosing to stop here. The scene is entirely different than it was just a few years ago and along with the changes, prices have tripled.
What’s more… the environment has suffered greatly at the hands of the globalisation. Sihanoukville’s once beautiful beaches are strewn with litter and piles of plastic are building up at the water’s edge. It’s a sorry scene and a sad one for anyone who knew the Sihanoukville of old.
The message is clear, landscapes and towns in Southeast Asia change fast, so see them while you can!

Happy time at Sihanoukville Cambodia - Ochheuteal beach and Otres beach
It's really happy and a great memory with our frieds at Sihanoukville of Cambodia. We stayed at Nice beach Hotel and we had dinner at Ochheuteal beach and continue to Otres beach on the second day. Ochheuteal beach is full of Khmer people as they came here for a holiday. It's King's birthday. Otres beach is the world class most beautiful beach located at the eastern end of Occheuteal beach and behind the small headland there, it's Phnom Som Nak Sdach, the Hill of former King's father's Palace, where we can lay down stunning along the beach there. It's Otres Beach of Sihanoukville in Cambodia. If you like Sailing and boating, it's the right place for you. And if you like a peace and quiet place, Otres beach is also the right place for you. When you think of a place to relax, think of Cambodia beaches.
