DIVING IN NUSA PENIDA - MANTA POINT SCUBA DIVE Vlog
We went scuba diving in Nusa Penida Manta Point and got to see the situation for ourselves. The Truth about trash in Nusa Penida is that it comes and goes with the tied. The day we went scuba diving only very little sea plastic waste was to be seen - yet still we were able to collect a lot of waste out of the water
Huge thank you to Octapus Dive Nusa Penida for the trip:
Thanks to Pierre and Trina for the awesome drone and underwater footage:

The original Nusa Penida trash story:
Rich Horner filmed himself in water strewn with plastic waste at the renowned dive site Manta Point on the island of Nusa Penida, about 24 kilometres from Denpasar, the regional capital of Bali.
Horner wrote in a social media post on March 3 that the ocean currents had delivered a lovely gift of jellyfish, plankton and mounds of plastic in the environment.
The two-and-a-half minute video shows Horner swimming through the sea pollution and plastic bags, which far outnumbers marine life in the ocean. The debris on the water's surface forms a thick ceiling of waste.
While manta rays regularly visit Manta Point to get cleaned of parasites by smaller fish, Horner spots just one manta in the video, apparently trying to keep below the sea of waste.
Surprise, surprise, there weren't many mantas there at the cleaning station today, he said. They mostly decided not to bother.
Bali has such a big problem with rubbish during the rainy season that it is also dubbed trash season.
The waste ends up on the resort island's beaches, shocking tourists and environmentalists.
Last December, authorities erected a banner on litter-strewn Kuta beach saying: We do apologise for this inconvenience, your visit interrupted by natural phenomenon in the form of annual waste of west wind impact.
Shadikin Akbar, who teaches surfing lessons on the iconic surf beach, said most of the annual deluge of plastic between December and February comes from the densely populated Indonesian island of Java.
From December 5 to 10, 2017, the local government declared a trash emergency on Kuta and Legian beaches.
During those five days the amount of plastic polution that washed up on the beach each day reached over 50 tonnes, said Badung regency head of environment and sanitation Putu Eka Merthawan.
During the monsoon season normally we clean no more than five tonnes daily.

We LEFT Bali TO GO DIVING WITH MANTAS & TURTLES in Nusa Penida
Nusa Penida is famous for diving with Manta Rays! Well apparently for turtles too! Trina got sick on the boat but it did not prevent her from having the most incredible experience swimming with Manta Rays in Nusa Penida. Diving or snorkeling in Nusa Penida is an incredible experience and it is so close to Bali that you could even go for a day trip from Bali.

Octopus, Lembongan/Nusa Penida (Bali) - Indonesia
That day at Manta point, we couldn't see to many Mantas, but this little octopus was worth the dive itself. There was obviously a lot of current, sorry for the shaking recording, I hope you can still enjoy this little friend.

Wonderful Diving in Nusa Penida - Indonesia - January 2020
Amazing 3 dive session at Manta Point, Toyapakeh and Mangroves. Unfortunately there were no Manta Rays on this day, but we still had 3 amazing dives at round 18m, and saw some beautiful corals, a huge Hawksbill Sea Turtle, a Mantis Schrimp, an Octopus, a Giant Trevally, a Moray Eel, a few Puffer Fish, a few Parrot Fish, several Butterfly Fish, amongst many other fish species.
As always I met some amazing people on these dives, one of the many good things about diving. Thanks to Ina, Saana and Lari for making the buddy teamwork easy, and many thanks to Rachel from @intrinity.divers for all the support in my diving training and certification, and of course to Amin (@amin_kancil), for all the guidance and underwater magic tricks.
