Scandi Divers dives Giant Clams, Sabang, Puerto Galera PH
Giant Clams
Depth: 3m/10ft to 15m/50ft, 3 minutes from Scandi divers, dive time 60+ minutes
Most of the dive sites around Puerto Galera are covered with all kinds of soft and hard corals but for the passionate photographer/critter hunter there is only one place you want to be and that is Giant Clams dive site, the king of muck diving.
The dive site is technically suitable for beginners but, if you want to avoid a sand storm ruining the visibility, your buoyancy must be consistent as must be your control of the fins.
The dive starts shallow with a water entry at 5 meters/15 feet on a sandy slope where you can find the giant clams calmly filter-feeding the nutrient rich waters. You then swim deeper, and end up in the muck, a sandy grassy bottom at 15 meters/50 feet in a Catherine wheel of colors and amazing marine creatures.
The list of critters you can see here is never ending with mimic octopus, blue ring octopus, wunderpus, ghost pipe fish, thorny seahorse, flamboyant cuttlefish and a infinite number of different nudibranches.
