The Other Hachiko?
That's right! If you thought that Shibuya was the only Hachiko statue ... well, it's not. The other is in ODATE, AKITA in the north of Honshu Island and it was made around the same time at the other statue. The Odate Hachiko depicts a younger dog with pointy ears. The one in Shibuya shows Hachiko's last year.
WHERE IS IT?
1 Chome-3-1 Onarichō, Ōdate-shi, Akita-ken 017-0044

The Akita Inu also has its roots in Odate and the statue is worth a stop if you're in the area.

Japan’s Most Faithful Dogs The Akita Inu
A breed native to Japan, the Akita Inu is a dog categorized as a large-size with a round face, triangular ears and a curly tail. Although these are big, tough animals, they have a gentle, affectionate nature and are known for their devoted loyalty. Treasured in the past as hunting dogs, they fell out of popularity in recent years, so in response, the birthplace of the Akita Inu, Odate City in Akita, began a program to breed and promote them, conducting a range of PR activities that include a petting space in the tourist office where visitors interact with the dogs. Recently, thanks to publicity from celebrity owners like figure skating champion Alina Zagitova, the Akita Inu has surged in popularity overseas too..

HACHIKO Monogatari Saddest Scene {Japanese Version}

JAPAN BY TRAIN: Hakodate - Aomori - Hirosaki - Odate - Akita [HD] (01/Jan/2014)
Video footage recorded during my trip all over Japan between December 27th 2013 and January 10th 2014.
This clip includes images of the Hakodate - Aomori - Hirasaki - Odate - Akita journey, with train changes at some stations and under heavy snow storm sometimes. The Hakodate - Aomori line connects the Hokkaido and the Honshu islands through the undersea Seikan tunnel.
Please note that these videos do not intend to show the tourist attractions at the cities I stop at, but the journey itself (particularly the train routes). For castles, monuments or colourful streets I preferred taking photographs... Sorry for that!

As for transportation, it takes 4 hours to get from Tokyo station to Akita station via the Akita Komachi Bullet Train.
It costs around ¥17,000($160 USD) however if you have the JR pass you just have to pay the small fee of the reserved seat on the Shinkansen(all seats are reserved).
Or if you are going up to Hokkaido or coming back down from Hokkaido, you can change at the Shin-Aomori station and take the local JR train down to Odate station.
Going back to Tokyo from Shin-Aomori station is also possible by taking the Hayabusa bullet train. (Around ¥17,000)
Even though Akita is in Japan, each prefecture is so unique in it's own way - I learned so much from this trip and could see a different side of Japan.. I hope to share this kind of Japan more and more with you through my channel :)
and lastly, a big big big thank you to my friends at Akita Inu Tourism for showing me around Akita!!!! Couldn't have done this video without you!
