UME Festival in Soga.
Odawara City is situated in the southwest of Kanagawa Prefecture.
Approximately 35,000 ume trees are planted in the Soga ume grove.
The ume grove, from which can be seen Mt. Fuji and the Hakone Mountain Range, offers one of the best views in the Kanto area.

小田原おでん祭り 2013年10月5日 Odawara Oden Matsuri
2013年10月5日、小田原城址公園二の丸広場で「小田原おでん祭り」が開催されました。あいにくの天気だったのですが、小田原おでんには長い列が出来ていました。
ステージでは「こども かまぼこ板積み合戦」をやっていました。
わたしは、籠清さんの「いわし揚げ」（￥200）を食べました。
ちなみにおでんは500円で5種を選べるそうです。

Went Strawberry picking for the first time ever, it was so much fun, unlimited strawberries for 30 min. the cost per adult was 1,200 yen and for children it was 700 yen.
We then went for a hike...which was very long and tiring, but it had some amazing views for the city.
After that we went to see the Odawara Castle, it was truly breathe taking....

Plum Blossom Festival - Ume Matsuri Yushima Tenjin Shrine
Ume Matsuri is Plum Blossom Festival in Japan and from early February to early March, Japanese celebrate these harbingers of Spring. Before the madness of Sakura (cherry blossom) and hanami (cherry blossom viewing party) it was the Plum Blossom that the Japanese adored, a tradition coming from China.
From the Nara Period (710-794) to the first half of the Heian Period (794-1185) the Plum Blossom reigned until it gave way to the Cherry Blossom. But even today many places have plum blossom festivals most notably shrines related to the God of Education, Tenjin. In life, Tenjin was Sugawara no Michizane, a scholar and statesman. As a scholar of Chinese, Sugawara loved the plum blossom.
Sugawara suffered political misfortune and was promoted-exiled to Kyushu where he died in 903. Some believed his ghost haunted the land and eventually to placate his angry spirit he was promoted in rank and later deified as the god of education.
Yushima Tenjin Shrine (also called Yushima Tenmangu) in Ueno, Tokyo has plum blossoms to view from February through March along with various entertainment on the weekend from tea ceremonies, folk dance, taiko drumming, biwa playing, and bringing a mikoshi (portable shrine) to the main shrine.

Today Jesh and I went to a Plum Blossom Festival and it was so beautiful! They weren't in full bloom yet, but they were still so pretty and smelled amazing! On the way there I saw a monkey and I will never stop talking about it! It was so crazy haha. While at the festival we were able to stop at an all vegan restaurant! The Plum Blossoms during the month of February-March just before the cherry blossoms (Sakura / 桜 ) season. The Ume Matsuri festival attracts a lot of visitors and a famed for their fragrance too.

► As much as April is Sakura-time, February is Ume-time - the first sign of spring in Japan, and that's what I'm gonna show you in this little video: Ume blossom in Atami Baien garden in Shizuoka.
Atami Baien is one of the most popular destinations in central Japan to watch Ume blossom, it is located roughly halfway between Hakone and Mount Fuji. It can be reached from central Tokyo by either a 2 hours & 10 minutes ride on a local train (1900￥), or in 38 minutes by Shinkansen (3500￥/unreserved seat) from Tokyo Station.
It's a great place for a stroll and a great opportunity to get the camera out of its bag. So that's what I did, and I was really lucky with the weather on that particular day, 18 degrees and a blue sky. I hope you'll like the result. - Enjoy!
