Britain's Last Trolleybus, Bradford archive video
Britain's Last Trolleybus DVD introduction available from Primetime Video.
This DVD tells the story of Britain's Last Trolleybus service in Bradford, over the sixty one years of it operating history, using archive film, pictures and fascinating interviews with former crew members. The Bradford film is supplemented by other trolleybus material recorded in various parts of the country by enthusiast Roy Brook, a well known transport film maker.
Back in 1971, when it was apparent that the trolleybuses would soon be retired forever, local film maker Edward Croot, and friends decided to record the final days of the the British electric bus. The filming was spread across the last six months of operation, culminating in the historic closure.
The last bus, duly painted to announce that it was definitely the last one, made it's trip with the official party. The crew of the following tower wagon turned off the power as it cleared each section. The City's Mayor finally turned off the depot power and Bradford's trolleybus era slipped into transport history. Perhaps the most poignant scene captured on camera was the drived of the last service trolley leaving the cab depot, taking with him all of his belongings. Written by Timothy Croot. DVD edited and produced by Edward Croot.
58 minutes long and available online from primetimevideo.co.uk
Former Odeon Cinema Behind The Scenes - Bradford Live
#BradfordLive #FormerOdeonCinema #Bradford #VisitBradford
An exciting transformation is underway to breathe life back into an iconic Bradford landmark.
Located in the heart of a thriving city centre and originally built in 1930, the magnificent art deco building formerly known as the Bradford Odeon is being restored, bringing it back to its former glory as an entertainment hub for the city. The venue will open in 2020/21 as a world-class leisure and business destination.
I had the chance to win an exclusive tour of #BradfordLive & Afternoon Tea at the @CakeoleBradford?

THE MAJESTIC CINEMA LEEDS 1961 2017 Version 6000k 25fps You Tube Take 2
My first Projection Film I made in 1961 at the Majestic Cinema 70mm Roadshow Theater, made on Standard 8 on very crude equipment.
A bit on the Self Indulgent side, but what the Hell, its a record of days gone by when 70mm was King.
Cinema idents and show format
If you went to the cinema in the UK in the 70s, 80s and 90s (especally at a Rank Odeon) chances are you would have seen a show presented the way it's demonstrated here, from the Welcome day-titles to the Sales trailers right up to the Goodbye filmlets.
They knew how to put on a show in those days!
Now it's all dull and bland with no classy idents, no ice cream girls, no stage lighting and no screen curtains. At least not in the multiplexes.
This collection is missing three important idents from the era that couldn't be sourced in full. - The 1981 lick me, bite me King Cone commercial, the 1985 Lyon's Main Get it! sales trailer and the 1998 Ridley Scott Odeon 24hrs a day ident (substituted here with the very last Rank produced Odeon salsa ident from 2000).
If I ever find these missing three I'll repost and delete the salsa ident, as it doen't really belong here.
Enjoy the nostalgia, and weep for the loss of showmanship at cinemas in the 21st century.
The Beatles - February 5th, 1963 (Gaumont Cinema, Doncaster, UK)
The Beatles' tour with Helen Shapiro had begun on 2 February 1963, but the group gave two standalone performances at the Cavern Club between that date and 5 February, when the tour resumed at Doncaster's Gaumont Cinema.
The Beatles stayed at the Regent Hotel, close to the venue. The owner's 15-year-old son was excited to learn that the group were there.
I already had tickets for the show but when mum said The Beatles were staying here I was very excited about it. After a few minutes I went upstairs. The TV lounge was up there and The Beatles were inside strumming their guitars. I didn't go in – that was not done, you didn't disturb guests. But I went near the glass doors and heard them. I've often wondered if they were working on one of their early hits that day.
I immediately called in to cancel my paper round the next morning so I could join my brother Dave in taking their tea up to their two twin rooms in the morning. Unfortunately, when we took the tea up they were all asleep. We went off to school, which was also very close by, but we both returned home fairly soon after, feeling unwell. It was probably the excitement and knowing The Beatles were probably still in the hotel. Anyway, when we got back there were The Beatles – all four of them in the restaurant finishing off their breakfast. They signed Parlophone promotion cards for us – and for some of the waitresses and kitchen staff.
They had all signed the hotel register. There was space for a name, date and nationality. George wrote George Harrison, British, February 5, 1963. But Ringo got the year wrong. He put Ringo Starr, British, February 5 1962. The others also put the wrong year. John Lennon signed his name but under nationality wrote 'white man' and Paul put 'green man'. Both followed Ringo in putting 1962. The funny thing was the next six people also put 1962 until one of them realised it was wrong and corrected it to 1963.
I remember later saying to my dad and mum, who jointly owned the hotel, that we needed to put the beds up for sale. Everything to do with The Beatles was wanted – sheets they'd slept in, etc. 'Don't be so bloody stupid,' my dad said. The register they signed is in a bank vault now, but we have copies displayed.

Beatlemania!, Martin Creasy
Taking photographs at the concerts was Charlie Worsdale, working for the Foto News agency. He was accompanied by Carol Roope, who was interviewing the performers for the agency.
[In the dressing room] they were playing Ray Charles records on a portable player, and tracks by people like Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. I was particularly chuffed they were listening to Ray Charles because I was quite a fan. I remember them joking among themselves about how audiences were reacting to them. They were poking fun at an audience which was now largely screaming girls who practically drowned out their music.
I took my pictures from the wings while they were playing, but you couldn't hear much. What was obvious was the excitement they were creating in the audience – it was obvious that they were going to be big. The much was largely drowned out, though.

Beatlemania!, Martin Creasy
The Art Deco venue opened in September 1934, with 2,020 seats and a stage 67 feet wide. A number of other musical acts performed at the cinema, including Buddy Holly and The Rolling Stones. The Beatles performed at the Gaumont on two other occasions, 22 March and 10 December 1963.
The building was modernized in 1964, and in 1987 became the Odeon, but was demolished in November 2009.
Abandoned Odeon Cinema! | (Left for Over a Decade)
► THE EXPLORE: So I've always wanted to get into a cinema, and there has been an abandoned one close to where I live for a while, and finally, we managed to get it in. This is what happened.
► SITE HISTORY: Opened on the 14th December 1936 with it's opening film being Chick. It was one of the largest and most expensive cinemas designed by Andrew Mather for Odeon.
Consisting of 4 screens in total, including a massive 631 seater screen upstairs. Today only 2 of the screens are accessible, with one flooded with waste water and the 631 seater no longer with any kind of way up to it after the original staircase was removed when the cinema's original entrance was renovated into a local shop.
In 2007 the freehold on the building was sold by Odeon and the final performances were held on 10th January 2008.
► DISCLAIMER: Urban Exploring is DANGEROUS. Do not attempt this yourself. Leave it to idiots like us instead...

Bradford The Odeon Cinema Save It Photographs John Peel Centre Bradford West Yorkshire
The continued saga of the fate of the Odeon or New Victoria Cinema in the centre of Bradford, photographs you may not have seen and reasons why we should keep this important and iconic building in the city.
Old Cinema To Reopen? THE NEW VICTORIA ACTION GROUP
Old Cinema To Reopen?
7.00PM Wed May 19 2010
A campaign's been launched to get one of the region's traditional cinemas reopened. The Preston Odeon opened as the New Victoria in 1928 and showed some of the greatest films in cinema history. When it closed, nearly 20 years ago, the building quickly fell into disrepair. Now it's up for sale - and campaigners want to buy it for future generations.
