Britain's Largest Abandoned Brewery... MOLSON COORS!
► THE EXPLORE: So this brewery is a massive place, and I will say right of the bat, we did not get chance to see all of it. Colin had limited time before he had to start work, so we had to stop prematurely. We had hoped to go back and then mash the two trips into one video, however due to a lot of other explorers going there, this did not happen as the site now has security again and has been sealed. But if we can go back again... we will. For now, I hope you enjoy the video and what we got to see on this visit.
► SITE HISTORY: In recent years, the brewery had been reliant on brewing Heineken, which made up around 75 per cent of the total town brewery production. In 2014, Heineken announced that it would not be renewing the contract and, as a result, Molson Coors embarked on a review of its UK brewery network. That resulted in the brewery’s closure in May 2015 to end 52 years of brewing on the site, and the loss of 108 jobs.
► DISCLAIMER: Urban Exploring is DANGEROUS. Do not attempt this yourself. Leave it to idiots like us instead...

William C Gray Carpets Ayr
William C Gray carpet factory.
For a film made in 1920, the footage is remarkable. Look out for the captions describing the different processes used in carpet making. The end scene Leaving the factory is just amazing. The employees at Grays certainly worked hard for their wages.
The clip was silent, I have merely added some background music. (Turn sound down or off if it isn't to your taste)
Thanks to Bruce Dowie for the find.
Description
v v v v v v v
As it unfolds, this film becomes a fine, fascinating exercise in the weft and warp of both carpet-making and industrial filmmaking. Gray's was one of Scotland's and Britain's leading carpet makers. This sponsored film leaves us an instructive, atmospheric record of a now-vanished world: part-manual, part-mechanised, poised between cottage craftsmanship and mass production.
Wide workroom vistas alternate with intricate close-ups of incessantly spinning yarn, piles of jute and cotton, steaming vats of dye, and armies of women and men attending trestle tables and electric generators (workrooms are rigidly divided by gender). The 'process' film, one of the earliest forms of documentary, was by 1920 a highly practiced art. Although a common convention of the genre is the finished product in the hands of the consumer, in this case the film ends on an old-fashioned (for 1920) 'factory gate' scene, suggesting it was distributed locally, intended not least as a staff morale-booster. The company closed in 1974. :(
The demolition of the Burgh Hall in Dumbarton to form council offices
Demolition works at the Burgh Hall in Dumbarton took place on Tuesday, August 4, as part of the council’s new offices project.
The West Dunbartonshire Council plans to relocate 500 staff - currently based at Garshake - to the offices at the site of the former Dumbarton Academy building in Church Street.
The design will retain the A-listed facade of the historic building and construct new offices at the rear.
The new office will cost approximately £16.4million but save the council £300,000 per year over the lifetime of the building, compared to maintaining the current Garshake offices.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! SUMMARY
=======
The Scottish Enlightenment (Scots: Scots Enlichtenment, Scottish Gaelic: Soillseachadh na h-Alba) was the period in 18th and early 19th century Scotland characterised by an outpouring of intellectual and scientific accomplishments. By the eighteenth century, Scotland had a network of parish schools in the Lowlands and four universities. The Enlightenment culture was based on close readings of new books, and intense discussions took place daily at such intellectual gathering places in Edinburgh as The Select Society and, later, The Poker Club as well as within Scotland's ancient universities (St Andrews, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen).Sharing the humanist and rationalist outlook of the European Enlightenment of the same time period, the thinkers of the Scottish Enlightenment asserted the importance of human reason combined with a rejection of any authority that could not be justified by reason. In Scotland, the Enlightenment was characterised by a thoroughgoing empiricism and practicality where the chief values were improvement, virtue, and practical benefit for the individual and society as a whole.
Among the fields that rapidly advanced were philosophy, political economy, engineering, architecture, medicine, geology, archaeology, law, agriculture, chemistry and sociology. Among the Scottish thinkers and scientists of the period were Francis Hutcheson, David Hume, Adam Smith, Dugald Stewart, Thomas Reid, Robert Burns, Adam Ferguson, John Playfair, Joseph Black and James Hutton.
The Scottish Enlightenment had effects far beyond Scotland, not only because of the esteem in which Scottish achievements were held outside Scotland, but also because its ideas and attitudes were carried all over Europe and across the Atlantic world as part of the Scottish diaspora, and by European and American students who studied in Scotland.

A bit about Glen taken from the internet, Yes he is still alive and was presenting Radio up until the end of 2006....
Glen Michael is a former children's television presenter and an entertainer. His career at Scottish Television spanned
several decades with his hugely popular show, Glen Michael's Cartoon Cavalcade. He was born in Devon, England
but has found the majority of his success in Scotland.
Born Cecil Buckland, Glen Michael began his career as an entertainer on stage, in many successful shows that encompassed
his talent for comedy, in particular, impersonations. Upon leaving his native England for the theatre circuit of Scotland, he
found further success in stage shows with noted Scottish comedians Rikki Fulton and Jack Milroy.Glen also made an
uncredited appearance as 'Larry' in the famous early police drama 'The Blue Lamp' in 1950. He and his 'date' witnessed the
shooting of Jack Warner (Dixon of Dock Green)as they entered the cinema.
Glen Michael's Cartoon Cavalcade (later Glen Michael's Cavalcade) began a record breaking run of 26 years in 1966. During
this astonishing run, it is claimed that it was watched by over two billion viewers, making it one of the most popular Scottish
and British television shows in history.
The show is still fondly remembered by many people in Scotland as their first exposure to many famous cartoons such as
Asterix and Bugs Bunny. The show is also remembered for Glen's companions Paladin the talking lamp and two dogs, Rudi
and Rusti. The programme also included superhero cartoons, which would be introduced by The Space Teller; Michael's
disembodied head (often wearing a crown) seemingly floating in space. The readings of children's birthday cards that
viewers had sent in, was also very popular, with Glen also sending birthday cards personally to those who could not have
their cards read on air.
Glen presented a popular weekly show on Saga FM every Sunday, playing songs from stage shows and classic records. When
Saga FM was brought over by Realradio company GMG Radio, Glen Deceived not to join over.
With the end of Cavalcade, Glen continued working, taking a touring version of the show around Scotland to primary
schools. As he continues to entertain more generations with games and cartoons, he is assisted by his wife of many years,
Beryl.
He lives in the Ayrshire community with Beryl and has two children, Yonnie and Christopher, and three grandchildren, Grant,
Fraser and Mark. His son, Chris Buckland, is a film editor who has worked extensively on STV productions such as Taggart.
He can often be seen at Somerset Park attending Ayr United matches.
Enjoy some Scottish history..... From Wiki and maxmix :)
