DOWNHILL FORT WILLIAM@UCI MTB WORLD CUP 2011
Some familiar faces returned to the top of the downhill podium in round two of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano.
While Fort William celebrated its tenth anniversary of competition, Tracy Moseley (Trek World Racing) celebrated her fifth victory in seven years at the Scottish venue.
Rachel Atherton (Commencal) made it a 1-2 British day for the women, with France taking the rest of the top-5 spots. Moseley's second consecutive win gives her a significant 170 point lead over second ranked Floriane Pugin (Scott 11) in the overall rankings.
It's pretty amazing. To come here as World Champion is pretty special, but to come here as World Champion and manage to win, it's just awesome, commented Moseley. The crowd is amazing, which makes it such a pleasure to ride and to push harder and harder. It means a lot to win here, to win five times here ... I'm happy. I really pushed, I knew Rach [Atherton] was going to be tough; every time you race her, you know she's going to be hard to beat. It's good to have another British girl to push me. Guaranteed, it meant the crowd was going to get a British win one way or another.
Men's competition: Minaar followed by new generation
While Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate) took the win in round two for the men, it was the young riders who finished second and third - Danny Hart (Giant) and Brook MacDonald (MS Evil Racing) - who were the real story of the day, signalling the arrival of the next generation of downhillers. Minnaar's win, coupled with round one winner Aaron Gwin's (Trek World Racing) fifth place, put the South African into the leader's jersey for the overall standings.
Starting 48th (out of 81), MacDonald absolutely nailed the pedalling bottom half of the course, to finish a staggering 5.643 seconds ahead of the next best rider at the time. The young New Zealand rider, who won't turn 20 until November, was the Juniors World Champion in 2009, but this ride put him in a whole new league.
As rider after rider came down, none could surpass his time. It wasn't until Minnaar, a two-time winner at Fort William, and fourth from last to start, came down that MacDonald was finally dislodged from the lead. The South African, a prodigy himself when he won his world title in 2003, was eighth fastest at the top split, and continued to improve as the course went on, to knock nearly two seconds off MacDonald's incredible run. Hart, starting just after Minnaar and only a month older than MacDonald, pushed the Kiwi down to third by 0.65 seconds. The final two starters - Gee Atherton (Commencal) and World Cup leader Gwin - slotted in to fourth and fifth respectively after their runs.
It was tough today, admitted Minnaar. I was really nervous. I didn't think I had it today. In yesterday's qualifying, I was behind, and I wasn't sure I could find the time. [Brook] MacDonald had a great ride, but I'm stoked to be on top ... it's just an awesome day. I'm speechless.

Fort William World Cup Weekend With Drop And Roll
Hey everyone!
This last weekend was the 2nd round of the UCI DH World Cup in Fort William, we've previously done Drop And Roll shows here before and they've proven to be a highlight of the year.
This time Adidas was responsible for us being there so huge thanks to them!
The weather was pretty bleak for most of the weekend but we did manage to get two dry shows (and one soaking one), this is a video of what I got up to.
HUGE thanks to everyone who came and cheered and chat, you're a hardy bunch! Also big thanks to the guys with Drop And Roll for being awesome as usual and also to Adam McGuire for the company and helping with filming.
I did film a lot of the pits bike tech but I've saved that for another video as it ended up being extremely long.
I hope you enjoy this and I hope to be at a show near you soon.
Cheers!

Who won the men’s downhill final at Fort William? | UCI MTB 2018
▶️Watch the REPLAY of the downhill action from UCI MTB World Cup 2018 on Red Bull TV:
The best riders from the world of men's mountain biking are in Scotland to take on Fort William's legendary downhill course. Find out who won the men's downhill final.
Fort William is regarded as the spiritual home of downhill and is probably the best-attended downhill round on the World Cup circuit. Fans in their thousands regularly descend on the uncompromising slopes of Aonach Mor and the Nevis Range to watch the world's elite take on one of the longest tracks in downhill.
The sun greeted the world's downhill elite as racing got underway at Round 2 of the Mercedes Benz UCI DH World Cup in Fort William, though overnight rain had threatened to change track conditions considerably for the riders. Thankfully, the long and demanding course continued to dry out under the Scottish sun, and the scene was set for an afternoon of drama on the slopes of Aonach Mòr.
There was an unfamiliar name on top of the leader board as the Men's race entered it final stages in Fort William. Reece Wilson, riding for Commencal 100%, started some way down the field but produced the run of his life to sit in the hot seat. The Scot knew exactly where to find time on a track that he's very familiar with, having raced both British and Scottish races here.
More accomplished riders followed, but were unable to unseat him. Loïc Bruni, racing in his first World Cup of the season, looked to be closing on Wilson's time, but time slipped away as he made it down the track. The Frenchman did temporarily slot into second place however.
All eyes on the course then turned to current World Cup points leader, Aaron Gwin. All was going well, with Gwin looking super smooth on the top section of the course. He was up on Wilson's time, but then disaster struck, as he went down in the new Liberty Boneyard rock section. The American crashed over the 'bars, but appeared uninjured and remounted quickly. His moment had gone however, and just maybe Wilson was beginning to dream of a miraculous World Cup win.
There were some big names on big bikes still to come down, though. Amaury Pierron, on his Commencal Supreme DH 29er, set a scorching pace out on the course.
The Frenchman made no mistakes during a smooth and stable run, carrying his speed right down to the finish, pedalling like there was no to tomorrow. As he came across the finish line, Pierron had bettered Wilson's time by over a second.

Fox MTB I Bruni, Seagrave & Lacondeguy takes on Bike Park Wales
This past October, having just signed Bikepark Wales in their network of international bikeparks, Fox Racing Invited 2017 World Champ, Loic Bruni, Women’s DH Sensation Tahnée Seagrave and the freeride master Andreu Lacondeguy to ride the most iconic bikepark in the United Kingdom.
It’s not that often that pro riders get a chance to take some time off during the year to enjoy some fun riding.
Loic, Tahnée and Andreu with their hectic schedules, travelling around the world all year long, were ecstatic and very open to the idea of riding their bikes without any kind of pressure!
So, the goal of the visit beside meeting the BPW crew, was most importantly “to have FUN
The three enjoyed the wide variety of trails that BPW has to offer under a classic Welsh weather, a perfect mix of rain, wind, clouds and even some sun at times !
Tahnée, BPW is like her local bikepark and she was pretty stoked to introduce BPW to new people, especially when these newbies are two furies like Loic and Andreu.
The result - an excellent day of riding with great times shared with locals who were over the moon to hang out with Loic, Tahnee and Andreu
For sure BPW will see some more Fox Racing riders shredding its trails pretty soon!

26min Highlight Show @ UCI MTB WORLD CUP 2011 - Fort William 4X/ DHI - Round 4
The world's top mountain biking stars wowed huge crowds gathered at the Fort
William Mountain Bike World Cup today as they plummeted down the slopes of
Aonach Mor in the thrilling downhill finals.
South African rider Greg Minnaar took top podium place in the Men's Downhill
following a tremendous show of power and skill down the course, beating
runner up Danny Hart who firmly made his mark on familiar British soil.
Minnaar also stole the prize from top British riders, Ruaridh Cunningham (17th
place), Ben Cathro (19th place) and last year's winner, Gee Atherton who
came in fourth.
Fans favourite Tracy Moseley took the top prize in the Women's Downhill
after fending off fierce competition from fellow Brit Rachel Atherton in an
exhilarating challenge.
Tracy held her World Cup lead while scooping a record breaking fifth win at
Fort William: It's pretty awesome as Fort William is a tough race. It's
such an amazing feeling to win in front of my home crowd - the atmosphere
was electric. I've had a brilliant start to the year!
Unable to compete for the whole season due to injury, Rachel Atherton said:
I'm really happy with second place. There's definitely no battle with
Tracy, she's a great rider and I'm just delighted to be back.
Starting high on the upper slopes of the mountain, riders dropped 555m down
the 2.8km boulder-strewn course, cheered on by thousands of spectators, to
finish at the bottom gondola station at the Nevis Range.
Celebrating his win, Greg Minnaar said: It's so great to win here in Fort
William, it's been a good weekend! I've been a strong contestant for the
last two years and lost out to Gee Atherton last year so it's great to take
it home for South Africa this year.
Commenting on his second place position, an ecstatic Danny Hart said: It's
been an awesome weekend and I nearly closed in on the competition. I've kept
my sensible head on all the way through so it's been relatively easy to stay
focused.
In some of the best 4-Cross racing Fort William has witnessed, thousands of
spectators and fellow riders watched on as Roger Rinderknecht battled to the finish
line to secure his World Cup title in this evening's men's final putting Jared Graves
run of good luck at the Nevis Range to an end.
Roger Rinderknecht said: It's amazing to have won, especially after what felt like a
bad qualifier. It feels really good and it's been a brilliant evening here at Fort
William.
Hot on the heels of Rinderknecht came David Graf (SUI) and Tomas Slavik (CZE)
securing silver and bronze respectively, as they conquered the twists and turns of
the famous Nevis Range course. The top female riders battled it out against one another in a closely contended
race, with Anneke Beerten (NED) stealing the victory from Great Britain's Joey
Gough who put in a sterling performance at her first Fort William event.
Anneke Beerton said: I've been competing for nine years but it's the first time I've
triumphed here at Fort William so it feels really special.
Lucia Oetjen (SUI) took the final podium place finishing in third place after braving
the bends and jumps of one of the world's toughest 4-Cross courses.
