Jeep Off Roading at Nemacolin Resort Trails
Nemacolin Resort and Spa has a Jeep Driving Academy and I drove up to hand with the instructors with my Stock Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. This is me trying to make it up a steep gravel incline. I didn't quite make it the first time as I wasn't used to someone standing on the trails and I was afraid I would hit my guide.
Visit Nemacolin Resort near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania
A tour of Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and sSpa, including views of inside the Chateau, the zoo, one of the finishing holes of one of the two on-property Championship golf courses and more! A great place for the family, not far from Pittsburgh, PA.
According to Wikipedia, Nemacolin Resort is named after Chief Nemacolin, a native Delaware Indian who in 1740 trail blazed a route through the rugged Laurel Highlands mountains between what is now Cumberland, Maryland and Brownsville, Pennsylvania.
Willard Rockwell established a private game reserve on what is now Nemacolin Woodlands and named this property Nemacolin Trails Hunting Reserve in 1968. The Rockwells invited friends and business associates to hunt and fish on the hundreds of acres populated by silver fox, bear, and Russian white-tailed deer. A hunting lodge was constructed along with a golf course and airstrip. Lakes Louise (named after the wife of Mr. Rockwell's youngest son) and Carol (named after the wife of Mr. Rockwell's second son) were also added and Beaver Creek was developed and stocked into a trout fishing stream.
In 1979, the property was sold to Cordelia Scaife May, but was returned three years later to the Rockwell family when Kent Rockwell repurchased the property and opened it to the public. Joseph Hardy III, founder of the 84 Lumber Company, bought Nemacolin at an auction he attended in 1987 in the hopes of purchasing a few acres of woodlands near a lake or stream for his daughter, Maggie, who loved fishing.
As Hardy recounts, I left the auction without that piece of property for fishing because I bought the main parcel and was out of money. Hardy and his daughter, Maggie, promptly set about transforming the property into its present state – a 2,000 acre (8 km²) world-class resort, rated Four Diamonds by the American Automobile Association (AAA). In 2002, Hardy transferred full ownership of the resort to his daughter, Maggie Hardy Magerko, who still serves as President and Owner.[1]
In 2007, Nemacolin's boutique hotel, Falling Rock, received AAA Five Diamond status. Falling Rock is the only hotel in Western Pennsylvania to receive AAA's highest honor, and has retained five diamond status though 2015. Lautrec, a fine dining experience with European-American flair located inside Nemacolin's Chateau LaFayette hotel, became the first new restaurant in Pennsylvania in 13 years to receive AAA Five Diamond status for 2008. In 2009, Lautrec received a Five Star rating from the Forbes Mobile Travel Guide and has held that distinction through 2015, making Lautrec one of only 27 restaurants in the world to have both Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five-Diamond ratings.

It’s called “Plagued by Fire: The Dreams and Furies of Frank Lloyd Wright.” Broken home, poor upbringing, limited education, first marriage, six abandoned children, and a client who turned mistress. Despite his having been arrested for allegedly violating the Mann Act — prohibiting the transport of women across state lines for “immoral purposes” — this troubled dandy’s still celebrated as Earth’s prime architect. Treating myself this holiday season, I visited his famous, iconic country house. Created 1935, Fallingwater, a National Historic Landmark, is near southwestern Pennsylvania’s opulent Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. The land dates to 1740’s Indian Chief Nemacolin. The 1960s begat summer homes. In the ’70s, one added a pool, a tennis court, a golf course, a pro shop. The ’80s brought a resort. And 2,000 mountain acres became the breathtaking megamillion-dollar rock, wood, marble, crystal, shell, granite, shale, slate, glass fairyland, which precisely imaged the handcraft of Wright. Its name is Hotel Falling Rock. Falling Rock has Forbes Five Star AAA Five-Diamonds award-winning chef Kristin Butterworth, who makes little things like black truffle pasta, cranberry posset and delicious “spruce poached potatoes with edible clay-roasted garlic aioli and Footprints Farm violas,” which they fed me, and whateverthehell it was I still don’t know, so don’t ask. There are multiple restaurants, vegetarian and gluten-free menus, cigar bar, 24-hour butlers, afternoon tea, championship golf course and academy, an art collection, five swimming pools, a spa, a fitness center founded on feng shui, its own ski mountain, seven bars and lounges, bowling, biking, the state’s largest wine cellar, warm cookies at bedtime, a 50-foot climbing wall, off-road driving academy, private airstrip — one helicopter was parked outside my window — and a wildlife zoo. Bison, lions, tigers. Through a partition, I fed bears. Also, there’s lots to learn If you crave something they don’t offer, history is nearby, like Fort Necessity, site of 1754’s French and Indian War opening battle. There’s Laurel Caverns, Ohiopyle State Park, craft center, antiquing, shopping. Or you can do as I did — fall apart and sleep. An hour’s drive from the Pittsburgh airport, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and its Wright-style Falling Rock Hotel are near Wright’s world-famous Fallingwater. Privately owned Falling Rock Hotel, a wooded picture-perfect movie set, is where people like Christian Bale, Nicole Kidman, Scarlett Johansson, Adam Driver, Matt Damon, Paul Rudd, Cameron Diaz should shoot their next action films. As if that weren’t eno

CREEPY TORNADO SIREN - Dodge City Twin Tornadoes 5-24-16
Twin tornadoes heading into the Dodge City Kansas area while tornado warning sirens blare on May 24, 2016. This is Part 3 in a three part series documenting this extraordinary tornado outbreak. Over a dozen tornadoes including 2 EF3's and one EF2 touched down near Dodge City. No fatalities occurred and two victims with critical injuries were eventually released from the hospital. To license tornado video in 4K contact hankschyma@yahoo.com
The average tornado victim doesn't follow radar apps and forecast tools all day, rather they are going about their daily business when tornado warnings are issued. Most people seek shelter and then information but some take to the streets disoriented, desperate to check on loved ones and property. Others take to the streets to assist, spot and report, while others try to catch their glimpse of the rare phenomenon occurring. Near tornadoes, drivers eyes are often drawn to the sky in search of danger rather than focusing on traffic. This makes chasing tornadoes through populated areas extra dangerous!
MASS STORM CHASER CONVERGENCE SET-UP!
The last two weeks of May attract more storm chasers to the Plains then any other time to coincide with the annual mean peak tornado frequency. Sight seers from all over the world flock to storms here (and spend a lot of money) hoping to witness a tornado spectacle. On May 24th, the Storm Prediction Center hatched a 10% chance of tornadoes with the possibility for significant tornadoes in a relatively small bullseye in southwest Kansas. Just after 5 PM this day, an isolated storm exploded inside this bullseye and soon after went tornado warned. Hoards of sight seers and storm chasers new exactly where to be. A slow moving cyclic supercell spawned a dozen highly visible tornadoes attracting more and more people by the second. Passers by, sight seers, locals, storm chasers and all their grandmas were pointing cameras at the awesome spectacle. I'd like to point out that twice during this chase I ran into traffic. The first jam was created on a backroad as a local Sheriff was blocking hungry storm chasers from getting their close ups in order to maintain order and rely information. The second bought with traffic was heading north on highway 283 into Dodge City. Hundreds of storm watchers had all pulled their vehicles well off the road but two truck drivers in semis were slowly creeping along watching the tornadoes while driving instead of pulling over. Once I passed them, the streets were clear.
At 6:30 PM a tornado emergency was declared for Dodge City area.
Just west of Dodge City, power was knocked out as tornadoes snapped trees and damaged power lines. A tractor trailer was overturned blocking a highway and several homes and structures were destroyed. A home in Ensign was destroyed and a victim with critical injuries had to be extracted. Officials confirmed 9 structures damaged in the EF3 that came w/in a few miles of hitting Dodge. Several homes and buildings were destroyed in the Dodge City area, although Dodge City was spared. A large propane tank was leaking gas and a stock trailer was blown nearly 3 miles according to local reports. An oil take was also blown over. Crews immediately begin searching homes.
The orchestra of tornado sirens heard in this video is the actual sound of Dodge City's multiple tornado sirens harmonizing.

Franktown Tender Accident - Lessons Learned
Last August, Franktown Fire Protection District experienced one of the worst days a department and their members can experience. Two of our firefighters were seriously injured in a rollover crash responding to a structure fire in another jurisdiction. We are revisiting that crash and discussing the lessons learned. Although this story is about a water tender, the message is for any department or business with resources utilizing air brakes. We hope that these lessons can improve the safety for all of our brothers and sisters in the fire service. The full video may have images that can be upsetting.
* Corrections -
Firefighter Wolfe continues to recover from a traumatic brain injury and this is the first time he spoke publicly about the accident. Firefighter Wolfe stated an incorrect, higher vehicle weight which has been pointed out by several video viewers.
During Part 2 the Firefighter misspoke and called the air dryer an air filter. A corrected version of the inspection is available by emailing the PIO contact below.
