Places to see in ( Offenbach - Germany )
Offenbach am Main is a city in Hesse, Germany, located on the left bank of the river Main and part of the Frankfurt Rhein-Main urban area. Offenbach has a population of 126,934. A few short kilometres upriver from Frankfurt, on the left bank of the Main sits the city of Offenbach. In times past, two of the big industries in Offenbach were leather-making and typography, and today there are high profile museums about both trades.
The city took a lot of damage in the Second World War, but its Renaissance and Baroque palaces where Hesse’s nobility once lived came through mostly intact and merit a detour. The Main riverside has been regenerated in the last couple of decades, while the Westend is an affluent neighbourhood of opulent turn-of-the-century villas built for the bourgeoisie. And every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday people from Frankfurt head to Offenbach for the fantastic outdoor market.
Next to the Main is a magnificent Renaissance palace from the middle of the 16th century. Isenburger Schloss was then the residence of the of Counts of Isenburg-Offenbach, who became the Princes of Isenburg und Büdingen up to the 1800s. Also beside the river, not far north of Offenbach is another graceful palace. Schloss Rumpenheim is a little more recent, and from 1736 was a residence for the Landgraves and Princes of Hesse-Kassel.
Also one of Offenbach’s big landmarks, Büsing Palais is a graceful former manor house now used for conventions and exhibitions and enveloped in public parkland. The museum’s name comes from the Klingspor Type Foundry, which was in business from 1906 and 1956 and produced an array of foundry types, like Peter Behrens’ “Behrens Roman”, and most famously Rudolf Koch’s widely used Neuland and Kabel.
Offenbach has had a leather industry since the end of the 18th century, so is just the place for a museum about leather and its applications around the world. Offenbach could claim to be Germany’s “weather city” as it is the headquarters for the German Weather Service (Deutsches Wetterdienst). Along those lines there’s a free, meteorologically themed park in the southeast of the city.
This western extension of the city was built over five four decades from the 1870s up to the First World War as a neighbourhood for Offenbach’s burgeoning middle and upper classes. It might sound morbid, but Offenbach’s old cemetery is a top-notch place to go for a walk. eated when the municipal museum and city archives were placed under the same roof, the Haus der Stadtgeschichte is a historical museum mapping 10,000 years of Offenbach’s history. On Offenbach’s southern limits is an animal park for mostly European domestic species.
A few short steps from the Büsing Palais is a Neoclassical theatre and conference centre with an absorbing background. The Capitol was completed in 1916 as a synagogue and community centre for Offenbach’s large Jewish population. Wilhelmsplatz is lined on two sides by chestnut trees and is the scene for Offenbach’s weekly market, which we’ll talk about next.
In summer Offenbach’s market has real charm and at this time of year the bars, cafes and bistros spread onto the pavement and mingle with the stalls under the shade of the chestnut trees. The Main was once a shipping artery, and warehouses and waterside industry crowded the left bank. If you find yourself wondering what to do in Offenbach, there’s a modern urban centre just around the bend in the Main.

Frankfurt (German: Frankfurt am Main; [1]) is the business and financial center of Germany and the largest city in the German state of Hesse. The city is known for its futuristic skyline and the biggest German airport.
Located on the river Main, Frankfurt is the financial capital of Continental Europe and the transportation centre of Germany. Frankfurt is home of the European Central Bank and the German Stock Exchange. Furthermore, it hosts some of the world's most important trade shows, such as the Frankfurt Auto Show and the Frankfurt Book Fair.
Pull down or rebuild: For years the fate of 'Germany's most beautiful ruin' was under discussion. But the people of Frankfurt provided an example of civic appreciation and on how to deal with historical heritage. Thanks to civic protests and generous donations the representative building from the Wilhelminian era, which had been bombed down to its foundation walls, was faithfully rebuilt to the original. On 28th August 1981, the inauguration of the Old Opera House was celebrated.
Since then, around 300 concerts and events a year have been attracting many visitors to its halls. The season starts with the Auftakt festival for contemporary music. Throughout the year, evening for evening, there are then performances of national and international ensembles and soloists in the Great Hall (2450 seats), famed for its excellent acoustics and fitted out in mahogany. The Mozart Hall (720 seats) is available as an additional stage.

100 Jahre Ledermuseum

The Clips in this channel refer to German short leather pants, which were a common garment for boys and girls in the fifties and sixties. In times when Kids played a large part of the year outdoors.
Electronic games, PCs, and mobile telephones didn't exist.

Dan testing the Organ
Daniel Brown practicing and testing the Organ at Victoria Conservatory of Music. The Organ has developed some air leaks in the recent dry Arctic air we had. Some of the leather insides in the Organ are original from it's completion in 1910. Unfortunatly the leaking air causes music to go flat when playing fuller Organ. Playing Hymn A Mighty Fortress is our God.

Joe's Record Store: From Metal Helm, death, thrash, speed, etc
Here's another batch from the CD's I purchased from Metal Helm Records up in Wisconsin. Here is kind of a mixed bag of extreme metal styles. Devil Crusher (Brazil) is an obscure 90s death metal band with a reissue of an old demo tape. Crimson Thorn has a great anthology of their releases from 1992-2002. Anybody new to Crimson Thorn (US) can get their whole discography in one shot. From Chile, Black Leather is a great old school 80s raw speed/thrash metal. Then 2 excellent CD's by the Ukrainian band playing a mix of power, thrash, and a little bit of black in the mix.
