Maastricht Limburgish (incl. Maastrichtian): Mestreech French: Maestricht (archaic); Spanish: Mastrique (archaic)) is a city and a municipality in the southeast of the Netherlands. It is the capital and largest city of the province of Limburg, as well as the largest city in the historical duchy of Limburg, that today spans the Netherlands and Belgium.
Maastricht is located on both sides of the Meuse river (Dutch: Maas), at the point where the Jeker River joins it.
Maastricht developed from a Roman settlement to a Medieval religious centre, a garrison town and an early industrial city. Today, Maastricht is well-regarded as an affluent cultural center. Maastricht has 1677 national heritage sites (Rijksmonumenten), which is the second highest number in a Dutch town, after Amsterdam. It has become known, by way of the Maastricht Treaty, as the birthplace of the European Union, European citizenship, and the single European currency, the euro. The town is popular with tourists for shopping and recreation, and has a large growing international student population. Maastricht is a member of the Most Ancient European Towns Network and is part of the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion, which includes nearby cities Aachen, Eupen, Hasselt, Liège and Tongeren. The Meuse-Rhine Euroregion is a metropolis with a population of about 3.900.000 and counts various international universities.

This film series explores many aspects of our society. To rethink what is possible in our world, we need to consider what kind of world we want to live in. Although we refer to it as a civilization, it is anything but civilized. Visions of global unity & fellowship have long inspired humanity, yet the social arrangements up to the present have largely failed to produce a peaceful and productive world. While we appear to be technically advanced, our values and behaviors are not. The possibility of an optimistic future is in stark contrast to our current social, economic, and environmental dilemmas. The Choice Is Ours includes interviews with notable scientists, media professionals, authors, and other thinkers exploring the difficulties we face.
Part I provides an introduction and overview of cultural & environmental conditions that are untenable for a sustainable world civilization. It explores the determinants of behavior to dispel the myth of “human nature” while demonstrating how the environment shapes behavior. The science of behavior is an important - yet largely missing - ingredient in our culture.
Part II questions the values, behaviors, and consequences of our social structures, and illustrates how our global monetary system is obsolete and increasingly insufficient to meet the needs of most people. Critical consideration of the banking, media, and criminal justice systems reveals these institutions for what they really are: tools of social control managed by the established political and economic elite. If we stay the present course, the familiar cycles of crime, economic booms & busts, war, and further environmental destruction are inevitable.
Part III explains the methods and potential of science. It proposes solutions that we can apply at present to eliminate the use of non-renewable sources of energy. It depicts the vision of The Venus Project to build an entirely new world from the ground up, a “redesign of the culture,” where all enjoy a high standard of living, free of servitude and debt, while also protecting the environment.
Part IV explains how it is not just architecture and a social structure that is in desperate need of change, but our values which have been handed down from centuries ago. They too need to be updated to our technological age, which has the potential to eliminate our scarcity-driven societies of today. Our problems are mostly of our own making, but we can still turn things around before the point of no return. It’s not too late for an optimistic outlook on the fantastic possibilities that lie before us.

*special thanks also to Alexander Obraz ...Obraz.io who created the many 2d motion depictions (plus the sound fx!) of concepts such as the hamburgers and fried chicken segment and many others which are Alexander's inimitable work style and attention to details where we needed very specific illustrations of key points.
The Venus Project proposes an alternative vision of what the future can be if we apply what we already know in order to achieve a sustainable new world civilization. It calls for a straightforward redesign of our culture in which the age-old inadequacies of war, poverty, hunger, debt, and unnecessary human suffering are viewed not only as avoidable but as totally unacceptable. Anything less will result in a continuation of the same catalog of problems inherent in today's world.

“heliomorphism” | Iñaki Ábalos and Closing Remarks
The topic of solar orientation and urban form is both perennial and, once again, timely. The discourses and practices of ‘ecological urbanism’ have turned our focus to the terrestrial topics of hydrological connectivity and ecological function. Heliomorphism proposes to revise and extend the ecological urbanism agenda by returning to solar performance. Recent projects by a number of leading architects and urbanists have suggested new forms of urban order through solar orientation. In many of these projects, designers correlate the shape of the city to a complex and contradictory economy of solar performance.
The topics of solar orientation and social order, public health, and political economy were fundamental questions for many protagonists and projects of modern planning. In the wake of the collapse of modern planning, singular models of social urban order based on latitude and solar equity have given way to neoliberal models of market driven urbanization. The inaugural conference of the Harvard GSD Office for Urbanization returns to this archaic aspect of urban order, and convenes an international group of GSD faculty and doctoral candidates, as well as a select group of GSD alumni to examine its present potentials through three discursive frames: plug-ins, commons, and zero-sum.

Model Favela: Imagination and Inequality in Brazil
Angelini will recount the rise into artistic prominence of Project Morrinho, a miniature urban play-world created by a youth collective in a favela, or squatter settlement, in Rio de Janeiro. He will explore what their iconoclastic role-playing game reveals about the status of imagination in an increasingly unequal, urbanized world.
Maritime of My Life (Pt. 23) - Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha!, Quebec
July 3, 2017 - Why so serious? Seriously, why? This town in eastern Quebec isn't! In fact, it has Ha! Ha! in its name.
This small town of just over one thousand people holds the distinction of being the only town in the world with two exclamation points officially as a part of its name.
Sadly, the name of the town is no laughing matter - haha is an archaic french word used to describe an unexpected obstacle in your path. There aren't any more obstacles here, though, as the Trans Canada Highway passes through this small rural town connecting this country from sea to sea (and...indirectly...to a third sea!)

gdyby nie kolej cz-3 - If there was no rail 3
Movie with English subtitles.
The film tells about the influence on the development of the city of Piła. The city's rail history is touching the problem of rundown Okrąglak a unique roundhouse which was built in 1874.
In July 2010, Okrąglak was entered in the register of monuments, like most buildings in the area of Piła station. But this is just the first step towards saving the roundhouse, which is currently in a pitiful condition
The film also presents values of Piła's train station, which at first glance seems unprepossessing, but it hides the wonderful history. Inquisitive observer will surely notice its still existing traces.
The Author , who is working on another film, is looking for people willing to share your memories, photographs of Piła railway junction. Contact kolej.pila@gmail.com
Anita Berrizbeitia, On the Limits of Process: The Case for Precision in Landscape
It has been almost four decades since the idea of process erupted into the field of landscape architecture as a primary driver of design. Initially associated with hermeneutics—a poetics inherent to the medium of landscape and a conceptual framework to bridge the divide between ecology and design—the idea of process today remains largely unquestioned, applied uncritically regardless of social and political conditions. Anita Berrizbeitia MLA '87, professor of landscape architecture and chair of the Department of Landscape Architecture, will explore the limits of process and will argue for the need to define the term differently today in order to address the conditions of diverse contexts of urbanization. With a response by Michel Desvigne, Peter Louis Hornbeck Design Critic in Landscape Architecture.
Anita Berrizbeitia is Professor of Landscape Architecture and Chair of the Department of Landscape Architecture. Her research focuses on design theories of modern and contemporary landscape architecture, the productive aspects of landscapes, and Latin American cities and landscapes. She was awarded the 2005/2006 Prince Charitable Trusts Rome Prize Fellowship in Landscape Architecture. A native of Caracas, Venezuela, she studied architecture at the Universidad Simon Bolivar before receiving a BA from Wellesley College and an MLA from the GSD.
Berrizbeitia has taught design theory and studio, previously at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design. Her studios investigate innovative approaches to the conceptualization of public space, especially on sites where urbanism, globalization, and local cultural conditions intersect. She also leads seminars that focus on significant transformations in landscape discourse over the last three decades. From 1987 to 1993, she practiced with Child Associates, Inc., in Boston, where she collaborated on many award-winning projects.
Berrizbeitia is co-author, with Linda Pollak, of Inside/Outside: Between Architecture and Landscape (Rockport, 1999), which won an ASLA Merit Award; author of Roberto Burle Marx in Caracas: Parque del Este, 1956-1961 (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2004), awarded the J.B. Jackson Book Prize in 2007 from the Foundation for Landscape Studies; and editor of Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates: Reconstructing Urban Landscapes (Yale University Press, 2009), which received an ASLA Honor Award. Her essays have been published in Daniel Urban Kiley: The Early Gardens (Princeton Architectural Press), Recovering Landscape (Princeton Architectural Press), Roberto Burle Marx: Landscapes Reflected (Princeton Architectural Press), CASE: Downsview Park Toronto (Prestel), Large Parks (Princeton Architectural Press), Retorno al Paisaje (Evren), and Hargreaves Associates: Landscape Alchemy (ORO Publishers), as well as in magazines such as A+U.
Michel Desvigne, Peter Louis Hornbeck Design Critic in Landscape Architecture, is a landscape architect internationally renowned for his rigorous and contemporary designs and for the originality and relevance of his research work. His projects, developed in more than twelve different countries, are regularly published in the international press. He works with leading architects including Herzog and de Meuron, Foster+Partners, Jean Nouvel, Rem Koolhaas, Christian de Portzamparc, I.M. Pei, Renzo Piano, Richard Rogers. He was awarded the French national Urbanism Grand Prize in 2011. Desvigne’s most renowned urban public spaces include Draï Eechelen Park (Luxemburg), Sammons Park in Dallas (US), the Saint Louis Art Museum (US), the New Qatar National Museum in Doha, Burgos Boulevard (Spain), Lyon Confluence 2 and Ile Seguin prefiguration garden (France). Recently Michel Desvigne has been awarded the leading role in the planning and implementation of the Paris-Saclay cluster (7700 ha), the landscape and urban plan for the development of Euralens (1200 ha), as well as the redevelopment of the old port of Marseille, awarded “prix de l’aménagement urbain” in 2013.

Places to see in ( Marseille - France ) Eglise Saint Laurent
Places to see in ( Marseille - France ) Eglise Saint Laurent
The St. Lawrence church is a church -style Provençal Romanesque situated 16 Esplanade de la Tourette in 2 e arrondissement of Marseille near the Fort Saint-Jean , on a hill to which it gave its name. It is the parish fishermen of Marseille.
Located on the hill Saint Laurent - today called La Tourette - this church was to be near the castle Babon. Excavations practiced in the surroundings showed the existence of a Greek habitat from the beginning of the foundation of the Phocaean city.
In 1952 was discovered at the foot of the mound an archaic ionic capital used in reuse, which suggests the existence of a sanctuary, perhaps a temple of Apollo , without one can specify the exact location, nothing to say that the church Saint Laurent was built on its site. This Ionic capital is on display at the Museum of History of Marseille .
In 870 , Bishop Babon built a fortified enclosure to protect the city after the barbarian invasions of 838 and 842 . At the end of the xii th century or the beginning of xiii th century, the economic and political stability finally regained the St. Lawrence church was built in this location, stone rose from Cape Crown.
In 1249 , under the episcopate of Benoît d'Alignan , the church of Saint-Laurent became the fourth parish of Marseille with Major , Accoules and Saint-Martin. The building was remodeled in the xvii th century at both ends. At the beginning of xvii th century, the apse was rebuilt for carrying out the octagonal tower which is accessed by a helical staircase established in a turret. At the other end, in the west, a span was removed in 1668 during the construction of Fort Saint-Jean. The main door on this west facade was transported to the south side.
The church Saint-Laurent is of Romanesque-Provençal style, simple and without transept. The nave and aisles end in the east with an apse and apsidioles. The absence of any carved decoration can only make think of the stripping of the three Provençal sisters the Cistercian abbeys of Thoronet , Sénanque and Silvacane . Note a statue of the Virgin and polychrome wood statue of St. Lawrence in gilded wood from the late xviii th century. The chapel baptistery is currently not visible awaiting restoration, the baptistery itself the xvii th century is in theChurch of the Mission de France also in Marseille.
( Marseille - France ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Marseille . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Marseille - France

Colombia , officially the Republic of Colombia , is a sovereign state largely situated in the northwest of South America, with territories in Central America. Colombia shares a border to the northwest with Panama, to the east with Venezuela and Brazil and to the south with Ecuador and Peru.
