Discovering the Iranian deserts
The Dacht-e Kavir
Dacht-e Kavir is the salty desert of Iran. It extends from the southeast of the Alborz Mountains to central Iran.
Two large national parks, both in terms of area and biodiversity, are located there. These are the Kavir National Park and Touran National Park (or Khâr-Tourân), both classified by UNESCO as Biosphere Reserves. Kavir National Park is located in the western part of Dacht-e Kavir, east of Salt Lake, 50 km southeast of Tehran. The neighboring cities are Qom, Kâchân, Semnân and Isfahan.
This part of the Desert of Lout - which means naked in Persian - is a bare place, without any plant.
There exists in this desert an exceptional and unique natural phenomenon, named kalut.
Kalout is a word formed by the addition of the word kal (which means city in Baluchi language) to the word lout. The inhabitants of this region have named the deep corridors that have grown over time due to the erosive action of wind and rain. The wind, which blows about 120 days a year in this area, carries and displaces the sandy soil.
Rain (which is rare, but abundant when it occurs) turns the sand into a relatively thick paste; the wind gorges that evoke the streets of an uninhabited city with houses built in clay bricks sun-dried.
This ghostly city, consisting of parallel corridors stretching from north-west to south-east, which are 160 km long and 200 to 500 meters wide, is located at Forty kilometers from the city of Shâhdâd, that is to say in the western border of the Desert of Lout.

IRAN, Dasht-e Lut (Lut Çölü'nde Kamp)
Iranian desert
Contrary to popular misconceptions, there is nothing interesting about deserts.

I crossed the Pacific Ocean Van on sailing boats as crew and visited The Unites States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, The Marquesas Islands, Tahiti, The Kingdom Of Niue, Rarotonga, Tonga, Fiji, some other small islands and ended up in New Zealand. In New Zealand I cycled 3.000km from the northernmost point to the southernmost point. After that I rode a motorbike from Vietnam to Laos and Cambodia. Recently I converted a Rusian 4x4 UAZ Buhanka oldtimer into a campervan and am driving around Central Asia with my puppy dog.

To Central Asia by Bicycle - #48 Iran - Hitchhiking to Yazd (English subtitles)
After we manage to arrange permits to visit the Armianian cemetery in Isfahan, where there is also a Polish section that we want to visit, we hitchhike back to the cemetery and visit it.
We also visit an Armenian church that we pass by on the way home.
We stay with a very kind host from #WarmShowers and the next day, much to his dismay, we continue our journey towards Yazd. There, our host takes us to a confectioner's to try some traditional sweet food typical for during Ramadan and we relax together while picking and eating all sorts of fruits in the garden.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

The Iran–Iraq War was an armed conflict between Iran and Iraq, beginning on 22 September 1980, when Iraq invaded Iran, and ending on 20 August 1988, when Iran accepted the UN-brokered ceasefire. Iraq wanted to replace Iran as the dominant Persian Gulf state, and was worried that the 1979 Iranian Revolution would lead Iraq's Shi'ite ...
Beliuli Caravanserai. Ustyurt Plateau. The history of Uzbekistan (Central Asia).
More information here:
Ustyurt Plateau (also spelled Ust-Urt, Usturt) is a most interesting and least explored destination between the Aral and Caspian Seas. It is just a fabulous rocky desert now but in ancient times caravan roads ran across it. They connected Khiva with the Volga and Emba deltas. The plateau was then controlled by the powerful and wealthy nomadic tribes of the Massageteans...
Beliuli Caravanserai was one of the seven caravanserais there. Located in the center of the plateau, the caravanserai with its strong walls served as a shelter stop for traveling merchants and dervishes. Beliuli complex had a caravanserai building, a holy well, water storage reservoirs, a large burial ground, and shell stone quarries for they used shell stones as building material. Still rarely visited by people today, the lone and half-ruined arch of Beliuli Caravanserai survives as evidence of fascinating ancient architecture once practiced in the area.
