Tourist Information of Oga Peninsula, Akita, Japan
The Oga Peninsula (男鹿半島 Oga hantoh) is a rugged peninsula which projects west into the Sea of Japan from the coast of Akita in northern Honshuh, the main island of Japan. Oga Peninsula is famous for the traditional festival of Namahage (Deities).

The Demonical but Droll “Namahage” Deities of Oga, Akita Prefecture | Nippon.com: Japan in Video
“Are any of you lazy? Are any of you crybabies?” Every New Year’s Eve in communities on the Oga Peninsula, Akita Prefecture, men in demonical masks and barbaric costumes of straw barge into homes and growl angry questions like these in the local dialect, their voices booming through the room where the family is gathered. Small children inevitably burst into tears at this apparition. Then the head of the household offers them sake. With this, they turn jolly. “This sake’s good!” they declare, and they do a happy little dance before they leave for the next home on their route.
This traditional event is not meant just to frighten children and let adults chuckle at the sight. According to folk belief, the “namahage” are beneficent visiting deities, raihō-shin, who drive away evil and bring good fortune as they warn against vices. And their droll performances also serve as a form of entertainment.
This New Year’s Eve observance is not intended for outsiders, but visitors are welcome at the Namahage Sedo Festival that is held for three days starting on the first Friday in February. At this event they can see “namahage” consecration rites and take part in reenactments of the deities’ visits to homes.

GAO Aquarium @OGA AKITA JAPAN????????
Oga Aquarium GAO is located at the Oga Peninsula, a hour’s drive north of Akita City and home of Namahage, a just over 50 minutes by train ride on the Oga line from JR Akita station and then a local bus from Hadachi Station for another 60 minutes, it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the peninsula.

Paragliding Odai in the Akita Prefecture
I seem to have the worst of luck at this place! In 2012 on my 8th flight I ended up in the bushes at the bottom of the landing area. Today, 3 years later I managed to avoid the towers, lights, chair lifts, trees, and bushes ... but I still botched the landing. I had to approach this with a little humor so I can learn and improve. I hope you enjoy it, but DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!

JAPAN BY TRAIN: Hakodate - Aomori - Hirosaki - Odate - Akita [HD] (01/Jan/2014)
Video footage recorded during my trip all over Japan between December 27th 2013 and January 10th 2014.
This clip includes images of the Hakodate - Aomori - Hirasaki - Odate - Akita journey, with train changes at some stations and under heavy snow storm sometimes. The Hakodate - Aomori line connects the Hokkaido and the Honshu islands through the undersea Seikan tunnel.
Please note that these videos do not intend to show the tourist attractions at the cities I stop at, but the journey itself (particularly the train routes). For castles, monuments or colourful streets I preferred taking photographs... Sorry for that!
