The city of Kitsuki (杵築), in Oita Prefecture is located on the southern side of the Kunisaki Peninsula. The city is nicknamed a sandwich castle town because of the samurai districts on both the north and south hills with the commercial district in the center.
Ohara Residence
Members of the Ohara family were once the chief retainers of the local feudal lords. Their former residence is in a good state of preservation, as its earthen walls, wooden facade and straw thatched roof combine to produce a very authentic image. Visitors are able to see various tatami mat, wooden floored rooms, and also a nice garden which surrounds the house.
Hours: 9:00 to 17:00 (last entry at 16:30)
Closed: December 29 to 31
Admission: 200 yen

[Cinematic] Ohara-Tei Residence - Oita - 大原邸 - 4K Ultra HD
Located a few minutes away by walk from Kitsuki Castle in the heart of Kitsuki City in Oita, Ohara-Tei is the residential building used during the Edo period to house karo top-ranking officials of the Matsudaira Domain.
Ohara-Tei, as well as the many residences in the same area, used to host many high ranking samurais in the past. Featuring gorgeous thick thatched roof, with beautiful gardens and ample rooms, the Ohara-Tei residence is the embodiment of what used to be a samurai's house in the past and about their way of live in Oita prefecture. Note that visiting the Ohara-Tei residence and other surrounding houses are free for everyone wearing a kimono!

Situé à quelques minutes à pieds du château de Kitsuki dans le coeur de la ville de Kitsuki à Oita, Ohara-tei est un bâtiment résidentiel utilisé en l’ère Edo pour loger les personnes les plus influentes du domaine de Matsudaira.
Ohara-Tei, tout comme beaucoup d’autres résidences dans cette zone, ont abrité de nombreux samouraïs de haut rang par le passé. Couverte d’un magnifique toit de chaume épais, avec de beaux jardins et de larges chambres, la résidence Ohara-Tei reflète à merveille le mode de vie des samouraïs de la préfecture d’Oita dans le temps. Notez aussi que la visite de la résidence d’Ohara-Tei et des maisons environnantes est gratuite pour tous ceux qui seront vêtu d’un kimono!

This time I went to Kitsuki city in Oita. Kitsuki is famous as the castle town which is made in the Edo period. People are protecting lots of building which samurai family used to live and any kinds of material to explain how they were living such as Katana, art, clothes or etc...

The city of Kitsuki (杵築), in Oita Prefecture is located on the southern side of the Kunisaki Peninsula. The city is nicknamed a sandwich castle town because of the samurai districts on both the north and south hills with the commercial district in the center.
Historical Museum
The Kitsuki Castle Town Historical Museum is a modest museum exhibiting a range of cultural artifacts and items used from the past. On the first floor stands a large float that is used during the Tenjin Festival on July 25 in Kitsuki every year. There is also a diorama which shows how the town looked like in the old days.
Hours: 9:00 to 17:00 (last entry at16:30)
Closed: Mondays (following day if Monday is a national holiday)
