Day trip to Arashiyama in Kyoto, Japan
I went on a day trip to Arashiyama in Kyoto, Japan with my husband and my family-in-law. Arashiyama means stormy mountain. It's a historic site with beautiful scenery cherished by many Japanese people. We enjoyed a boat ride down the streams of Oi-gawa (Oi-river) and ate grilled squid which we bought during the boat ride. Oi-river is part of the bigger river called Katsura-gawa.
The drawing/portrait in the beginning of the video is from Nagahama city in Shiga prefecture, Kansai area in Japan.
I am so thankful for the great experience I had. I really enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto in Kansai area in Japan.

Places to Go: The Togetsukyō Bridge
A classic symbol of the Arashiyama area, the Togetsukyō Bridge is often the first sight that visitors head to see when they arrive. Spanning the Katsura River (also called the Oi River or Hozu River depending on the area) the bridge offers a splendid view up and down the river which varies dramatically from season to season. With Mt. Arashi serving as a backdrop, visitors can enjoy cherry blossoms, vibrant summer greens, and colorful autumn leaves on the mountain slope. On the Oi River side you can watch people in small rental boats paddle about, or take part yourself. The Togetsukyō (Moon Crossing Bridge) takes its name from the romantic notions of Emperor Kameyama in the 14th century, who noted that throughout the night it seemed like the moon was making its way across the bridge.

三船祭 Mifune Matsuri Festival
Mifune Matsuri Festival
Held in Arashiyama, a mountain area where Heian nobles would often visit for leisure, Mifune Matsuri Festival comes from the legend of Emperor Shirakawa’s Three Boats, set afloat on Oi River to hold performances of traditional waka poetry, Imperial gagaku music, and ancient dance. The festival procession departs from Kurumazaki Shrine and then crosses Togetsu Bridge, where following a Shinto ritual, thirty boats including the Ryutosen and Gekishsen are let into the river. The festival is popular for its elegant recreations of ancient nobles; with women in Heian era costume floating fans ceremoniously into the river, orchestral music playing, and the traditional Butterfly Dance being offered to the gods, it’s like a scene taken straight from an ancient scroll.

Arashiyama Kyoto
Arashiyama is a small town on the Oi River. Its moon-crossing bridge, Togetsu-kyo, is a beautiful, much-beloved wooden structure. Arishiyama also has Tenryu-ji temple, one of the 14 World Heritage Sites in Kyoto.

Arashiyama: Sagano Scenic Railway & Hozugawa River Cruise
The Sagano Scenic Railway takes a winding path through the mountains between Arashiyama and Kameoka. It used to be part of the JR Sanin Line but has been replaced by a faster route and is now maintained only as a tourist attraction.
After reaching Kameoka we return by boat along the winding Katsura river.
Flower and Light Road Show 2011! Arashiyama Hana-touro 2011!
Last night we visited Arashiyama for a spectacular show of lights in the night combined with old Japanese sceneries, held from the ninth of December to the eighteenth of the same month, from 17:00 to 20:30. During this ten day period, various events and exhibitions are held, reviving up the festive atmosphere of the night. Students performers from universities around Kyoto will be dancing and performing on the streets at Nakanoshima Park.
The amazing view of dozens of lights in the pitch black night was visible from a distance, and floodlights on either side of the river lit up the Togetsukyo bridge which was teeming with people. The most amazing spectacle, no doubt, was Arashiyama which was quite literally glowing in a blue halo, bamboo shrubs lit up luminously, like a small galaxy. Our anticipation was already building.
The name 'Hana-touro' means literally, 'flower and light road', a romantic concept for a romantic town. Thousands of lights illuminate the Arashiyama area, including some temples and shrines which have extended visiting hours just for this occasion. Next year in March, a similar event will be held from March 10th for ten days, and then Higashiyama will take its turn in being lit up from 18:00 to 21:30. You can be sure to see me posed with my camera there next year, undaunted by the cold and crowds.
We first walked along the Oi River, enjoying the mirror-like quality of the water, and then crossed the Togetsukyo bridge where, in Naka no Shima Park, we got a lovely view of the river, the glowing bridge, and other paper lanterns and flower arrangements, also dropping by to eat a delicious Mitarashi dango, which is a snack which many agree is the representative tidbit of Kyoto. The flower arrangements were scattered around different locations of Arashiyama with cooperation from Kyoto Ikebana Association, eight in all, and all imaginative and beautiful in their individual ways.
Crossing back over to the opposite side, we forged our ways through the esthetic streets of Arashiyama, lit up with lanterns all the way; we can truly say that Arashiyama is a city frozen in time. Though we were tempted by the many snacks and sweets beckoning us at every corner, we forged on bravely, determined to climb that blue mountain we had seen from afar.
Before starting up the path, we visited Nonomiya-jinja, a small shrine where one can buy charms for all sorts of things and write their wishes on ema, or thin slats of wood. Having our blessing, we started our climb.
The mountain was a true bamboo forest, and the view was absolutely spectacular -- it was similar to walking among ghosts, or something supernatural, but still very beautiful. The bamboos were lit up with blue or white lights, and the roads were crowded with eager people, walking approximately 5.2 km. Both sides were lit up from the Nonomiiya Shrine to Okouchi Sanso Villa, which is a paid area.
Walking back down into town, we treated ourselves to the perfect ending of an evening with bowls of steaming ramen, a meal which one just cannot pass up while staying in any part of Japan. With this, we concluded our night and called it a day, cameras full of ethereal pictures of blue light and burning lanterns floating in the night.

River Rafting in Kyoto (Hozugawa River) | Japan Vlog 29 | Lin Nyunt
I went whitewater rafting for the first time ever. And it was great! We went to the Hozugawa River in Kyoto prefecture, setting out from Kameoka. The weather was absolutely perfect that day and it was incredibly fun.

Rainy Days In Arashiyama, Kyoto
Arashiyama in Kyoto prefecture, a popular tourist destination since the Heian period between year 794-1185. You can enjoy the harmony of nature in the modern society. Taken last March 2018, despite of rainy days, still the district is crowded by tourist. Featuring the beautiful Arishayama station and the bridge of Togetsukyo bridging the two areas of tourist spot.
A Spirited Journey to Kyoto’s Most Isolated Restaurant
Fuyoh Kobayashi is a master calligrapher and owner of the famed Shoraian restaurant in Japan. Located in Arashiyama, Kyoto, Shoraian is perched on the edge of a mountain overlooking the Oi River and can only be reached by foot. To call Shoraian simply a restaurant sells it short. Visitors come as much for the celebrated food as they do for the sense of peace that this spiritual, otherworldly setting offers.
