Lake Bled – hiking to the Ojstrica viewpoint
The hike to Ojstrica viewpoint is one of the most popular things to do in Lake Bled. It’s not too difficult. In this video I show you the way up, and the kind of hiking trail it is. At the top of both is a great viewing point for photography, and I show you some of my favourite photos taken from these points.

Sunrise at Lake Bled from Ojstrica viewpoint
The hike to Ojstrica viewpoint only takes about 20 minutes, but trying doing it in the dark in order to get there for a dawn and sunrise photo shoot. Well I did it twice, and in this vlog I show you how I set out twice to try and capture the iconic image of the sun rising over the mountains behind the beautiful fairy tale Lake Bled and its stunning island church and cliff top castle.
I turn failure into success of a different kind, and then find success on a return trip.
To read more about the sunrise photo shoot, and find out how to get there yourself, read my article here:

Vintgar Gorge and Lake Bled in Slovenia

Sunrise Lake Bled Ojstrica Must See in Slovenia 1h From Ljubljana
[ OJSTRICA, you’re the next on my ????] ????Julian alps????
It's one thing to VISIT Bled???? as a TOURIST, quite another way is it to explore it like the LOCALS. Ojstrica Peak is an iconic peak in Slovenia, full of beautiful views: and if you will ever visit this gorgeous place, it should definitely be on your ????. From Ljubljana, you have 1h of ????.
• FIRST INFO: From the west shore of the Lake Bled to the top of the peak you have roughly 20-35 min of a hike. And you will gain 190 meters (624 feet) of vertical climb elevation.
• PATHS: The place isn't hard to find... Paths are marked pretty well????, you do not have traditional red and white dots as you would be able to find up in the mountains, but at the bottom of the path the sign for Ojstrica mountain (if you are physically fit you can also go to “her neighbour” Osojnica, the walk is more demanding and you have extra 10-20 min of walk). In case you will need some extra information, you are always welcome at the Altitude Activities office, where the friendly worker will be super keen to help you and show you the easiest and the most pleasant way how to reach this point. • ADDED VALUE FOR MORNING PERSONS? This place is highly recommended to visit early in the morning, you will be able to see super picturesque sunrises.
⬇ A FEW THINGS before you are fully ready to go for this climb;
- hiking shoes are highly recommended: on the path you have a lot of slippery roots and steep gravel
- make sure that you don’t have any serious medical issue which might deteriorate your current condition
- especially in hot summer days, it is a good idea to have a drink with you
-plan your trip 1 day in advance (check the weather forecast; Sonček app is quite useful, even though it is in Slovenian language, but it is simple to figure out how to check the weather prognosis), if you will pass our agency at Ljubljanska cesta 1, we will provide FREE maps of Lake Bled and surroundings.
⬇ PROS ⬇️
✔ ️positive body health affect
✔ feel better
✔ ️ capture amazing photos
✔ turn on your sense for orientation,
✔️ enjoy the beauty of nature
✔️ the most beautiful scenery around Lake Bled
✔ ️Spend less money on other expenses, it is for free! No entries yet, so don’t hesitate to visit sLOVEnia.????
CONS⬇️
❌Bad weather possibility? You might be wet, but if you are not made out of sugar, you will be totally fine! ????

Is Lake Bled in Slovenia A Tourist Trap?
Lake Bled is probably the most famous lake in Slovenia, but is it the best? It's certainly a beautiful part of the world, so we headed over to see what it was like.
As with most touristy places, a lot of them tend to be tourist traps, hiking their prices up to phenomenal amounts just because tourists are there, whether it's worth that much or not.
We visited Lake Bled in December and it was cold, but with the blue skies, the place still looked unreal - what a place. Actually, the whole country was amazing, it completely shocked us and is now up there as one of my favourite countries so far.
In summer, I can imagine Lake Bled being rammed with tourists, potentially making it unbearable, but as we were there out of season, it was really nice. As Goldie said in the video, Slovenia was the right amount of busy, not too many people and not completely dead.
Slovenia is a really nice country and somewhere I'd definitely recommend visiting, and I'll certainly be back to see more of the country.
In the middle of Lake Bled is an island, called Bled Island, which apparently was created by fairies. Goldie tells that fairytale in the video once we get to the island. To get to Bled Island, you need to get on a boat, and after walking past the boats, we walked back and ended up on the boat to the island. It's €15 for a return trip to Bled Island on the paddleboat. It's a bit of a rip off, but there's no other way of getting there out of season as you can't rent a boat with the rental shops being closed.
In the background of Lake Bled, you can see the Slovenian mountains which make for an amazing photo opportunity. On the side of the lake was a Christmas market, but in summer I can imagine all sorts of things going on here.
There's also a castle at the side of the lake that we never made it to.
so is Lake Bled a tourist trap? Kind of, but not overly. The boat ride is an absolute rip off, but the cafe on the Island was pretty cheap. Paying to get into a church is also something that I didn't fancy doing.

✨ Lake Bled ✨
Lake Bled (Slovenian: Blejsko jezero, German: Veldeser See) is a glacial lake located in the Julian Alps northwest of Slovenia, adjacent to Bled. It is located 55 km from Ljubljana Airport and 35 km from the capital Ljubljana. This part of the region is a tourist destination that represents Slovenia.
Lake Bled is 2,120 m in length and 1,380 m in width, 30.6 m at the deepest point. In the scenic environment around Lake Bled, the view of the mountains and the castle spreads. On the banks of the Hubei is a medieval Bled castle, and Bled islands float in the lake. This island is the only natural island in Slovenia and the main of some of the buildings was built in the 15th century by the St Mary's Church (Cerkev Marijinega vnebovzetja). There is a 52 m tower and 99 stairs. Wedding ceremonies are also held regularly in the church.
Lake Bled is also a good place for boating competitions. The World Boat Championship was held in 1966, 1979, 1989, 2011.

Slovenia 2018 - E3 - Triglav Park & Bled Scenic Viewpoint
After checking out of the hotel I sail across to Bled island on a Pletna Boat and climb 99 stone steps to explore the church and bell tower. That's followed by a drive through Triglav National Park and the abandoned village of Radovna mostly burned down by Nazi soldiers in 1944. Finally I hike into the mountains to get a last look at Lake Bled before darkness falls - I end up at an overlook called Ojstrica which offers some incredible views across the lake.
