Korakuen - Japanese Garden, Okayama ● 後楽園 岡山
► Korakuen is a japanese Kaiyu-style garden, located in Okayama. (*between Kobe and Hiroshima) - It is one of The three great gardens of Japan. It was originally constructed in 1687, however, the garden did'nt reach its modern form until 1867, in addition, it was restored in 1952 after suffering severe damages from the World War II bombings in 1945.
It's really a superb garden, with so many highlights, so much variation, not to mention the size of it. I recommend Korakuen Garden to anyone, with just the slightest interest in Japanese gardens and culture. - Enjoy!

The official name of the temple is “Saijo Inari-san Myokyo-ji.” Because torii are symbols of shrines, the torii at Saijo Inari makes this temple a rare example of the religions of ancient Japan. Every year about 3 million people visit this temple, where “Saijoi Kyo-o Daibosatsu,” believed responsible for prosperity in business and good harvests, is worshipped.

Buddhist lantern festival at oubaiin temple, okayama, japan. 夏至の万燈会・鶯梅院(岡山)
Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
夏至の夜に鶯梅院にて万燈会をおこない平和を祈りました。そこで風鈴雅楽コンサートをおこないました。ありがとうございます。
annual Buddhist event for commemorating one’s ancestors. It is believed that each year during obon, the ancestors’ spirits return to this world in order to visit their relatives.
Traditionally, lanterns are hung in front of houses to guide the ancestors’ spirits, obon dances (bon odori) are performed, graves are visited and food offerings are made at house altars and temples.
Have you ever seen Japanese wind chimes? They are called 風鈴 (fuurin) and they are hung outside of houses and buildings. When the wind blows, they make a beautiful, soothing chiming sound that will make you feel very relaxed.According to traditional Japanese thought, 風鈴 (fuurin) also have the ability to ward off evil spirits.
The JapaneseFlute is a Japanese end-blown flute. It was originally introduced from China into Japan in the 8th century and underwent a resurgence in the early Edo Period. The JapaneseFlute is traditionally made of bamboo, but versions now exist in ABS and hardwoods. It was used by the monks of the Fuke school of Zen Buddhism in the practice of suizen (blowing meditation). The instrument is tuned to the minor pentatonic scale.
Along with Shinto shrines, Buddhist temples in Japan are considered among the most numerous, famous and important religious buildings. The Japanese word for a Buddhist temple is tera , and the same kanji also has the pronunciation ji, so temple names often end with -ji or -dera. There is also another ending, -in (normally used for minor temples). Famous temples as Enryaku-ji, Kiyomizu-dera, and Kotoku-in illustrate the naming patterns.
A sutra is an aphorism or a collection of aphorisms in the form of a manual or, more broadly, a text in Hinduism or Buddhism. Literally it means a thread or line that holds things together and is derived from the verbal root siv-, meaning to sew. The word sutra was very likely meant to apply quite literally to these texts, as they were written down in books of palm leaves sewn together with thread. This distinguishes them from the older sacred Vedas, which until recently were only memorised, never committed to paper.
