Okefenokee Adventures March 2017
Some of us were able to go on a little trip into the black swamp waters of the Okefenokee for spring break - no mosquitoes or bugs - it was a great time to go there. Tons of alligators and turtles sunning themselves. Beautiful place and a fascinating ecosystem.

Okefenokee 2013 - Round Top Shelter
Leaving Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, Folkston, Georgia on a 3 day canoe trip to Round Top Shelter and Coffee Bay. It is 12 miles to the Round Top Shelter canoeing through prairies and the Suwannee Canal. We chose to leave Round Top and go back the way we came making it only 6 miles to the Coffee Bay Day Shelter and then it was 6 miles back to the Okefenokee NWR. The trails we used were the Orange and Purple trails. We had a great time.
Okefenokee Swamper - A Big City in the Swamp
The animatronic swamper in the Visitor Center of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge talks about a town that sprung up in the Okefenokee Swamp during logging operations.
I was an intern at the refuge during the summer, so I pretty much memorized this because I heard it almost every day.

Okefenokee Swamp. The Wonder of Georgia.
The Okefenokee Swamp is a shallow, 438,000 acre (1,770 km²), peat-filled wetland straddling the Georgia--Florida border in the United States. A majority of the swamp is protected by the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and the Okefenokee wilderness. The Okefenokee Swamp is considered to be one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia. The Okefenokee is the largest blackwater swamp in North America. The term Okefenokee in Native American is land of trembling earth. The swamp was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974.
bicycling the East Coast, Folkston GA to the Sidney Lanier Bridge south of Brunswick GA.
The weather was perfect during the ride from the southern Georgia border.. I never did buy a GA map, I relied on free wifi and google maps, and when that didn't work, I used the GPS on my phone and when that didn't work... I just asked locals for directions

OKEFENOKEE Nat Wildlife Refuge GA USA - RISSLING
OKEFENOKEE National Wildlife Refuge GA USA by RISSLING. We spent a day boating around 'Oke' in the Fall of 2009. No gators, strong currents, brackish brown / black - mirror like water, dense dark bog-like forests, serene, quiet, and more.
After a couple hours floating around you literally felt like you could step of the boat and walk on the black (watery) surface. A very unique experience.

Hokey Pokey in the Okefenokee
*** More of Bruce's Songs @ *** Singer Songwriter Bruce Hamilton - Original song about two teenage lovers who tell the girl's parents they are going to the movies but then go parking in the Okefenokee swamp.
Bruce wrote this song to fill a void in today's country music market. In the 80's we had Swingin' by John Anderson. The 90's gave us Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus and in 2005 we heard Honky Tonk Badonkadonk by Trace Adkins.
This is a fun song with a nice groove and a great hook that should have it's own line dance and a spot at the top of the charts for commercial country radio. (T.K.- Nashville Radio Program Director)
Billy's Island in the Okefenokee Swamp
This is coming up on the boat dock at Billy's Island in the Okefenokee Swamp. There is a lot of water in the swamp because of all the rain we have been getting. Because of this the current was at about 1 MPH.

Okefenokee Swampwise
This is a video that I made in August of 2005. I live in Folkston Ga and have always been fascinated with the Okefenokee Swamp. When I was making this video, On a wild whim, I contacted Okefenokee Joe and asked for permission to use his song Swampwise as background for my video. Much to my surprise he granted me permission to use it as long as I gave him credit for writing and singing the song, which I have. It's at the end of the video. Joe if you're still around, thank you so much! I have shared this video with family and friends throughout the past 6 years and would now like to share it with the world VIA YouTube. Hope you enjoy it as much as my family and friends have. You can visit Okefenokee Joe at
