Okere River, “the place of drifting', plummets and scurries through steep, forested ravines before entering the tranquil waters of the Trout Pool. Its beauty can be enjoyed from the Okere Falls Scenic Reserve, which is located 21 kilometres from Rotorua on Trout Pool Road.
Walking tracks in the reserve lead to four picturesque waterfalls, the site of Rotorua's first hydro-electric power station, the Tutea Caves and Hinemoa's Steps. The tracks are well-formed and information panels along the way explain the natural and man-made features within the reserve.Hinemoa's Steps were carved into a rock face in 1907 and lead to the thundering waterfalls and some caves that were used by local Maori women and children to hide during times of war. From a viewing platform near Hinemoa's Steps you can watch rafters descend the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world - an 11 metre, white watered plunge into a deep lazy pool below.
The Trout Pool is a popular fishing spot and trout can be seen swimming gently against the current.

Rotorua is one of the most popular tourist destinations in New Zealand. There are a lot of activities available there and heaps of them are free. One of top 10 free things to do in Rotorua is visiting Okere Falls reserve where 3 beautiful waterfalls are located. This is a must visit place for adventure travels, especially if you want to try rafting. If you are not sure where to go in New Zealand, Okere Falls is an amazing waterfall and definitely one of the most beautiful places to see the best of New Zealand.
Our friend Robbie had this place on his list for a really long time. To enjoy Okere Falls at their fullest, we woke up really early and filmed everything with a soft morning light (and a lot of lens flares).

ABANDONED pump house at Okere Falls
On the outskirts of Rotorua there is an abandoned pump house located at Okere Falls. The track itself leads you through many viewing points of several waterfalls including the highest commercially rafted waterfall, Tutea Falls. There is also a cave you can visit while at Tutea Falls called Tutea Caves. It's 30mins one way but you'd probably wanna do a return trip anyways since there is so much to see. We went by foot but many visitors enjoy rafting and kayaking down the Kaituna River to fully experience this beautiful location!

Jsme pár z Krkonoš, 5 let jsme žili a pracovali ve Velké Británii, cestovali po světě, navštívili jsme místa jako Island, Havajské ostrovy, Maroko, Moskvu, New York, Madeiru a ohromnou spoustu dalších míst.
V roce 2018 jsme získali Working Holiday vízum na Nový Zéland a přestěhovali jsme se na druhý konec světa! Díky tomu, že jsme neustále na cestách, tak tenhle videoblog vznikl na základě toho, abychom měli vzpomínku z místa, které momentálně navštěvujeme a zároveň abychom mohli ukázat víc než pouze fotografie zpět doma, postupně nás to začalo tak bavit, že dnes se snažíme ukázat, ale hlavně poradit dalším cestovatelům, jak, kde, co a za kolik?

Well worth the visit. Short little well graded track that is easy. The falls are only 5 minutes in.

A well-formed bushwalk with scenic lookouts over Okere River and its spectacular waterfalls. A wide grassy area beside the main carpark provides a good site for a picnic. From the main lookout platform by Hinemoa's steps you can watch rafters and kayakers sweep over the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world.
