【空手】沖縄空手会館 Okinawa Karate Kaikan【KARATE】
2017年3月4日(土)にオープンしました沖縄伝統空手を独自の文化遺産として保存・継承・発展させ、
「空手発祥の地・沖縄」を国内外に発信するための拠点として整備した施設です。
敷地内には展示コーナー、道場、ショップ、飲食スペースなどの施設があります。
On March 4, 2017, the Okinawa Prefectural Government will open the doors of the Okinawa Karate Kaikan.
This facility will serve to inherit, preserve, and develop karate`s role in traditional Okinawan culture and tell the world that Okinawa is the birthplace of Karate.
The 3.8 hectare site will contain three main buildings; 1) the Karate Dojo (the Martial Arts Dojo), 2) the Karate Archives (tentative name), and 3) the Special Dojo, built with red tiled roof that symbolizes Okinawan tradition.
The Center will also boast a training room, seminar room, dining space, and a karate equipment store.
We hope that people from all around the world will come to love the Okinawa Karate Kaikan and see it as befitting of Okinawa karate`s cultural heritage.

Sensei: Masters of Okinawan Karate is a crowd-funded YouTube documentary series about the legendary martial arts teachers of Okinawa, Japan.
Sensei: Masters of Okinawan Karate is a crowd-funded YouTube documentary series about the legendary martial arts teachers of Okinawa, Japan.
In this sixth episode, Kenyu Chinen sensei talks about his teachers of karate and kobudo, and his own philosophy of martial arts. He spends half of the year in France, and half of the year in Okinawa.
This video was made possible with the kindness of Chinen sensei's students for allowing me to film at their seminar, and for their assistance with interpreting and translating.
Will all the videos be on YouTube?
Yes the videos will be available for free on YouTube to anyone who wants to watch and learn from these great sensei. This video is the sixth in a series of at least 12 interviews with Okinawan karate masters. Hopefully individuals, dojos, or karate organizations would be willing to help sponsor or support the project to allow us to keep making videos.

We are now shooting with two 4k cameras (FS5 and A7Sii). There are still many improvements to be made, and hopefully we'll keep progressing with each video. Ideally we'd get a proper boom mic and audio recorder to improve audio, cinema lenses, and we need greater data storage as we're working with huge 4K Pro Res Raw files.

Okinawa Karate Museum was founded in Yonagusuku, Nishihara town in January 11th, 1987. It was the first museum for karate and kobudo. I started to collect karate related material when I was at a university. The reason why I
decided to do so is because when I was to write a treatise of karate, I couldn't find enough material. People from all over the world have visited this museum.
More than 300 materials are gathered at this museum.

There are a plentiful photo collection of great karate masters. There are some calligraphies of them, too. Here are kobudo weapons. This diagram shows vital spots of human body. Visitors are coming from all over the world. Some
of them left their badges and stickers here for memory. When asked, I sometimes take people on tour to guide karate related sites in Okinawa. I do calligraphy when people want me to. I calligraph the teaching quotation such as Karate ni sente nashi (There is no first strike in karate.)Back in the days, Kanpo (Chinese herbology) took essential role in medical treatment. Kanpo is a part of history of karate. Those equipments are for tanren (karate training). They are for strengthen hands, fingers, feet and legs.
Since karate was developed in Okinawa, one can see abandoned materials of karate on this island. Materials such as great masters' birthplaces,
their gravesites and monuments, so on... In my opinion, Okinawa itself is a karate museum with materials inside and outside of this building altogether.
