The Okotoks Museum and Archives is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and making available to the public documents and photographs which reflect the history of Okotoks and district. Archival holdings include municipal records of Okotoks as well as the records of individuals, families and businesses in Okotoks and the surrounding district.

Recovered footage from my archives, albeit slightly damaged. This is 2816's arrival in Okotoks, for the first of her two visits (she also visited in 2007). As you can see, she had some traction troubles.
The siding she pulled into has since been torn up, and the grain elevators are now gone.
Please forgive the poor videography. This was my first video camera!

Ethel Suarez's story - Red Deer & District Archives
Featuring the dramatic reading of Ethel Suarez's oral history from the Red Deer and District Archives. Suarez fled to Argentina from Uruguay in 1974 and came to Red Deer with her family as a refugee in 1977. Read by Elizabeth Marsh.
The Red Deer and District Archives acquires, preserves and makes available to the public both municipal and community records. The Archives is the official repository of City records of enduring historical value. The Archives also acquires records from numerous clubs, businesses organizations, churches, individuals and families.

Blood on the Marias: The Baker Massacre
On the morning of January 23, 1870, troops of the 2nd U.S. Cavalry attacked a Piegan Indian village on the Marias River killing many more than the army’s count of 173, most of them women, children, and old men. Intended as a retaliation against Mountain Chief’s renegade band, the massacre sparked public outrage when news sources revealed that the battalion had attacked Heavy Runner’s innocent village—even after guides told its inebriated commander, Major Eugene Baker, he was on the wrong trail. In his book—from the University of Oklahoma—Bozeman author Paul R. Wylie explores the history of Euro-American involvement with the Piegans, beginning with the Hudson Bay Company in the 17th century and culminating in the tragic events on the Marias.
