Passenger Trains in Costa Rica 2018 - Transporte Ferroviario en Costa Rica
The rail system in Costa Rica is slowly coming back after being out of service since the 1990s as certain lines are being made suitable for rail service. Notice the lack of crossing guard gates at the intersections. Speaking to a number of locals: they say that accidents involving cars with the train occur but express pride that rail is coming back.
-
Currently the service operates from two main terminals which are the old Atlantic and Pacific stations located in San José Downtown, around 3 kilometres (2 mi) from each other. Incofer has bought many Apolo 2400 series railcars from the former narrow gauge operator in Spain, FEVE. Those cars are used in the commuter train service with complementary operations of so-called conventional trains (old General Electric diesel locomotives pulling old passenger cars built in Costa Rica).
-
A critical issue is that there are no barriers or lights at level crossings, only a warning sign at every one of the many grade crossings. Train airhorns are used to warn pedestrians and cars at every grade crossing of an incoming train. This is in order to prevent accidents, which have been registered, but due to the train's low speeds, they result in non-fatal accidents. There have been, as well, registered complaints about the train's loud horns (same air horns used in freight trains in other countries), but they have been overruled due to the necessity to warn traffic and pedestrians. Also many Costa Ricans feel identified with the train horns since they have been used ever since the railroad started operations. ~Wikipedia

Michell's Pass - Return of Steam - Part Two
In 2015 the Ceres Rail Company received their first newly restored locomotive, 19D No.3321 and started operations shortly there after.
Initially the company offered day trips from Ceres golf estate down the short branch line and Michell's Pass to Waverley wine estate.
Departing from De Meter station with the train pausing briefly at Waverley wine estate for the passengers to have lunch. The train would then continue to Wolseley where the locomotive would be turned on the tri-angle ready for the return trip back to Ceres.
Arriving back at De Meter the crew would once again uncouple the locomotive so that it could proceed to Prince Alfred Hamlet to be turned for the second trip of the day. This was sometimes repeated after the last trip of the day so that the locomotive would be ready for the next excursion.
Many of the locations seen in the clip are inaccessible by road and at the time I would use my night shift week to go filming there. I found packing lunch and spending the entire day up there to be the most efficient way to use my time.
Ceres Rail Company can be contacted at or via their Facebook account.
Panama-Colon train near Gamboa, PCRC freight standing down on siding, June 14, 2010.AVI
This is the restored vintage passenger train that crosses the isthmus of Panama, riding on the original 1849 Panama Railroad's right-of-way. The old PRR rails have been replaced in 2000 with state-of-the-art heavy mainline UniRail and rotproof concrete ties. The Panama Canal Railway (PCRC) has numerous rebuilt ex-Amtrak EMD F40PHs and ex-KCS (Kansas City Southern) EMD SD60s on its equipment roster. The PCRC is a unit of the Kansas City Southern/NAFTA Railway. The paint scheme is the same. All Panama Railroad & PCRC communications and railroad operations have been and are are performed in English. The line has some 58 miles of mainline trackage, sidings and spurs running across the Continental Divide at the narrowest part of Panama, much of it through thick, natural jungle and alongside the Panama Canal. Top train speeds reached are around 65 mph; the PCRC's dedicated passenger trains run weekdays, once daily each way. Intermodal container freight trains load, run and unload every day as required between the Pacific and Atlantic seaport terminals. The restored vintage 6-car streamliner passenger train consist includes a rare ex-Southern Pacific Budd SuperDome car, with full-length curved skylight roof glass. The EMD F40PHs and the SD60s share intermodal freight train duty assignments. Only the 440-volt generator-equipped F40PHs are assigned to pull the fully air-conditioned passenger trains, with a live locomotive unit simultaneously and alternately pulling or pushing the train on each end. The passenger cars are each named for important Panama rivers. If you ever visit Panama, RIDE THIS HISTORIC TRAIN! Meanwhile, enjoy the video clips of my Panama train trips!

All EMD Power! Panama Canal Railway Stack Train at Corozal - Panama City (April 24, 2017)
A Panama Railfanning video
Panama Canal Railway Company (PCRC) locomotives 1869 (ex KCS EMD SD60), 1866 (EMD SD40-2), and 1859 (ex Amtrak EMD F40PH) lead a 55 car northbound intermodal stacktrain with Maersk Line containers at Corozal, Panama City, Panama shortly after departing from the Port of Balboa on the Pacific Ocean. This train will run parallel to the Panama Canal to Colon, Panama on the Atlantic Ocean.
55 cars seems to be the normal/maximum length for the container trains in Panama, probably due to the length of the siding and loading tracks at the intermodal yard.
Filmed at 12:33pm, Monday April 24, 2017 at Corozal, Panama City, Panama.

Tren a Puntarenas, Turrialba-Siquirres (INCOFER-1990)

History of the Dominican Republic
The recorded history of the Dominican Republic began on 5 December 1492 when the European navigator Christopher Columbus happened upon a large island in the region of the western Atlantic Ocean that later came to be known as the Caribbean. It was inhabited by the Taíno, an Arawakan people, who variously called their island Ayiti, Bohio, or Quisqueya. Columbus promptly claimed the island for the Spanish Crown, naming it La Isla Española, later Latinized to Hispaniola. What would become the Dominican Republic was the Spanish Captaincy General of Santo Domingo until 1821 except for a time as a French colony from 1795 to 1809. It was then part of a unified Hispaniola with Haiti from 1821 until 1844. In 1844, Dominican independence was proclaimed and the republic, which was often known as Santo Domingo until the early 20th century, maintained its independence except for a short Spanish occupation from 1861 to 1865 and occupation by the United States from 1916 to 1924.

COLOMBIA - WikiVidi Documentary
Colombia , officially the Republic of Colombia , is a sovereign state largely situated in the northwest of South America, with territories in Central America. Colombia shares a border to the northwest with Panama, to the east with Venezuela and Brazil and to the south with Ecuador and Peru. It shares its maritime limits with Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. It is a unitary, constitutional republic comprising thirty-two departments. The territory of what is now Colombia was originally inhabited by indigenous peoples, with as most advanced the Muisca, Quimbaya and the Tairona. The Spanish set foot on Colombian soil for the first time in 1499 and in the first half of the 16th century initiated a period of conquest and colonization, ultimately creating the New Kingdom of Granada, with as capital Santafé de Bogotá. Independence from Spain was acquired in 1819,, but by 1830 the Gran Colombia Federation was dissolved. What is now Colombia and Pana...
