6AM8 The Overland Rescued By 81 Class Locomotive - PoathTV Australian Trains & Railways
The Journey Beyond Rail Expeditions (formerly Great Southern Rail / GSR) Overland passenger train running from Adelaide to Melbourne experienced troubles shortly after it left Dimboola. The train reversed to the station and its NR class locomotive was declared a failure. An 81 class locomotive was borrowed from a nearby grain train and was able to haul the failed NR along with the passenger carriages to Melbourne, however it was over 3 hours late as it arrived at my location and the harsh setting sun along with clouds threatened to ruin my shot. I took a risk and pointed the camera straight at the sun, and was quite happy with the resulting scene.

32RM Moves for the First Time: Australian Trains
Sunday 15 January 2017 marked a significant milestone in the restoration of 153hp Walker Rail Motor 32RM as the power unit moved under its own power for the first time since the early 1990's.
Most of the exposed mechanics in this video will be underneath the attached passenger car when the rail motor is put back together following painting.
32RM has been under long term restoration by the volunteers at the Daylesford Spa Country Railway. While there is still a significant amount of work to go, the railway hopes to have this historic vehicle back in heritage service by the end of the year.

Auscision B82 and BRM P18 on the Morehouse Through Goods
Model Railways
Hello all,
Today back to model railways again.
Also being used as a filler video this week.
After my years of capturing video at the Australian Model Railway Association's Stonnington Valley Railway time to get some of the older stuff rolled out.
In this short video from the club we have my fleets Auscision Models B82 and Bendigo Rail Models P18.
Today's train takes the pair on a short trip from Lloydhurst to Morehouse on a short non-stopper goods service.
Note the video does say B84 instead of B82. Too close of numbers.

Victorian Passenger Trains; 40 years of change
A collection of photographs going back to the 1970's followed by video shot in October 2010. The trains were once a mix of wooden bodied and some air conditioned steel cars hauled by anything from an 1800HP locomotive down to a 650HP locomotive best suited to working in the yards. Then there were the little rail cars that plyed the far reaches of the state. They and the services are gone. The mainstay of the fleet now is the 2500HP N class supported by a number of similar powered A class and 1000 HP P class units. Sprinter rail cars have displaced a lot of locomotive working and now the V'locity fleet is on the increase running trains from 2 to 7 cars in length. In terms of sheer numbers the passenger rail service to country Victoria has never been better than it is today. It is still, in this writers opinion, less than satisfactory in terms of speed. The Regional Fast Rail project to raise speeds to 160km/h fell far short of what was required to take the system into the 21st century.

DERM to the Mallee - DERMPAV Sea Lake tour with 58RM: Australian Trains
Over the weekend of 9 and 10 March 2013, DERMPAV operated the second of two weekend trips to Sea Lake approximately 420km from Melbourne in the north west of Victoria, Australia.
This video commences at Boigbeat, approximately 10km south of Sea Lake and follows the DERM all the way to North Creswick, near Ballarat. A chase of approximately 270km!
DERM 58RM was built under license from the Electro-Motive Company in 1930 as a petrol-electric rail motor (known as a Gas-Electric in the USA). In the 1950's it was converted to diesel-electric with two 6-71's in place of the original Winton motor. It was withdrawn from regular service in the late 1980's and passed into the care of SRHC and subsequently DERMPAV. In 2011, 58RM returned to mainline service and now operates regular tours all over Victoria's mainline network.

Steam and Diesel on the North East: Australian Trains
An afternoon on Victoria's north eastern mainline on Saturday 1 December 2012
The action commences with a down and up Sprinter at Wandong plus 7MB7 with three LDP's on the front. Following this I moved to Broadford to get a shot of 4-6-4 steam locomotive R707 on a down special to Seymour.
I was going to call it quits for the day, but I heard on the grapevine that DL48 was leading 7MC2, so I called into Donnybrook to get this plus the down Albury and Shepparton passes and an up Tocumwal grain.

A2 986 Steaming Again After 52 Years! Steam Trains Australia
On the 30th of May 2015, a historic event occurred at Newport Workshops, located in Melbourne's West. Steam locomotive A2 986 moved under its own power for the first time in 51 years.
The restoration of this locomotive is 29 years in the making after the locomotive entered Steamrail Victoria's custodianship in 1986.
The A2 class was an express passenger locomotive that ran on Victorian Railways from 1907 to 1963. A highly successful design entirely the work of Victorian Railways' own design office. Two variants of the A2 locomotive were built. A total of 125 Stephenson valve gear A2 locomotives were built between 1907 and 1915. This design was then altered to incorporate larger diameter cylinders, a higher boiler pressure and Walschaerts valve gear, and a further 60 locomotives of this design were produced between 1915 and 1922.
Some A2 locomotives received Boxpok driving wheels to replace their original spoked wheels and some locomotives were converted from coal to oil burners (including A2 986). During its restoration A2 986 was converted from oil burning back to coal burning.
A2 986 has been restored to a high standard by volunteers and staff of Steamrail Victoria.
The locomotive will be painted in to its former Black livery and smoke deflectors are to be re-fitted in the future.

Australian Steam Trains: R761 races between Elmore and Goornong
Echuca is a boarder town of the states of Victoria and New South Wales, It was originally the terminus of the first cross country main line in Victorian Railways History linking the Port of Melbourne to the Warf at Echuca for the transport mainly of wool which had been transported down the Murray River. Over the Easter weekend in 2011 Steamrail Victoria ran a series of shuttles for the locals with steam locomotive R761 and diesel locomotive T356 from Echuca Station to the old station site at Barnes. Here is seen R761 and T356 departing Echuca bound for Melbourne on Easter Monday, Anzac Day. Seen here is R761 leading T356 as they race between the towns of Elmore and Goornong on the return home to Melbourne.
