British Home Children, Doreen Hayes Genealogy in Park Lawn Cemetery Toronto
We had no idea this 'Irish' ancestor was indentured & sent to Canada as 14 yr old orphan from the Liverpool Sheltering Home. I told my Mother the late Doreen Hayes of Toronto that I was taking her shopping on her 75th birthday..I took her to the cemetery. Lori Oschefski of British Home Children Advocacy group discovered 2 mass unmarked graves with 75 previously forgotten children from Dr. Bernardo's in this cemetery. A memorial statue has since been erected here commemorating ALL British Home Children in Canada .
What Lies Beneath London’s Liverpool Rail Station? | National Geographic
Before construction can begin on the new Crossrail station, archaeologists must excavate the 16th-century cemetery that's beneath it. More than 3,300 skeletons, many of whom died from the plague, were exhumed from the old Bedlam cemetery. By taking DNA samples from a plague victim's tooth, scientists are able to study the plague pathogen that caused the death of more than 75,000 people in London and compare it with other samples to see how the disease has evolved over time.

Old cemetery discovered at construction site in St Catharines, Ontario
Construction has been delayed at a St.Catharines Ontario low-rise residential site, when a body was found back on Apr.16 during site excavation. Eventually more bodies were found, bringing the total to ten, as of May 18th. Apparently there had once been a cemetery, dating possibly to the 1830's, behind the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria. The area is now paved over and has been a parking lot for decades, and before that, there were residential buildings here. The bodies were found along the perimeter of the construction site. It is not known how many more graves might still be under the parking lot.

Liverpool: Then and Now - Ghosts of Liverpool Past
As a hobby and for my Facebook page Liverpool: Then and Now, I take old photographs that I find (taken any time between 1840 and 1990) of my home city, Liverpool and go as close as I can to the original spot to retake the photograph in 2013.
I then either put the old photograph next to the new, or blend the two together in a range of ways. All the photos I've done so far can be seen on my Facebook page here and on my Flickr page here

Old Photographs Of Bathgate West Lothian Scotland
Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Bathgate, Scottish Gaelic: Both Chèit, is a town in West Lothian. This Scottish town is by the M8 motorway 5 miles West of Livingston. Nearby towns are Armadale, Blackburn, Linlithgow, Livingston, West Calder and Whitburn. Richard Bladworth Angus was born on 28 May 1831, in Bathgate. He was a younger son of Alexander Angus, a merchant grocer from Rafford, Morayshire, and his wife Margaret Forrest from Bathgate. Alexander Angus was a friend of the father of Sir James Young Simpson, and five of his eight children came to Canada at various stages. Educated at Bathgate Academy, Richards' first employment was in Manchester, England, as a clerk with the Manchester and Liverpool Bank. In 1857, at Manchester, he married his wife, Mary Anne Daniels, the daughter of a Montreal wine merchant. In the same year as his marriage he went with his wife to Montreal and found employment as a book keeper with the Bank of Montreal, from where he advanced rapidly. He was a co-founder and vice president of the Canadian Pacific Railway; President of the Bank of Montreal; President of the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal; President of the Montreal Art Association and co founder and President of the Mount Royal Club. He was the natural successor to Lord Mount Stephen as President of the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1888, but did not desire the position; and he twice refused a knighthood. As one of Montreal's most prominent Scots Quebecers, he was elected President of the St Andrew's Society. In 1889, he co-founded the Mount Royal Club, where he was later President, and was a member of more than a dozen clubs throughout Canada, including: the St. James Club, of which he was formerly chairman; the Montreal Jockey Club; the Auto Club and Aero Club; the Forest and Stream Club; the Winter Club; the Rideau Club of Ottawa; The Toronto Club; the York Club and the Manitoba Club. He was an honorary member of the Antiquarian and Numismatic Society of Montreal. He died at his summer house, Pine Bluff, on 17 September 1922. On the day of his funeral, two days later, the CPR stopped all trains for two minutes, a symbolic gesture to one of its founding partners. He was buried at the Mount Royal Cemetery.

A mystery solved: D-Day soldier is identified
A family from Nova Scotia is reconnected with their late father after learning that his image, originally captured in famous film footage from the Second World War, inspired the Royal Canadian Mint’s 2019 Proof Silver Dollar commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
At her home in Liverpool, NS, the Mint presented Karen McLeod with a coin in honour of her father, the late Private George Baker and all brave Canadians who served on D-Day. Karen and her family had been unaware of the film’s existence.
Working with local historians and officers of New Brunswick’s North Shore Regiment to identify Pte Baker has been a rewarding experience for the Mint. Read our blog for more on this story:
Brookwood: Visiting The UK's Largest Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery | Forces TV
During times of remembrance, many people will visit military cemeteries to pay their respects to the many British and Commonwealth servicemen and women who died in the First and Second World Wars and other conflicts. Often, that means a trip overseas to the battlefields of Passchendaele, D-Day or Arnhem. But there’s also the opportunity for people to show their appreciation in the UK.
Brookwood Military Cemetery is the largest Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) cemetery in the United Kingdom and is the final resting place for more than 5,000 service personnel from Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK and Ireland. It also contains plots dedicated to other nations such as France, Belgium, Poland and Czechoslovakia. It is also the location of the Brookwood American Cemetery and Memorial.

EXPLORING SYDNEY'S OLDEST CEMETERY - ROOKWOOD, AUSTRALIA
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go for a walk around Sydney's oldest and most historic cemetery, Rookwood, which is located around 20 kilometers west of the city. We are not going to look in the national parts of the cemetery (Italian, Russian, Chinese, etc.) we are only going to appreciate the old parts. Since this cemetery is very old and since it does not contain magnificent monuments (like the one in Milan, Italy) I have videotaped the clips in a 'walking' format, watch it and you will understand what I mean. Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia and Oceania. Located on Australia's east coast, the metropolis surrounds the world's largest natural harbour, and sprawls towards the Blue Mountains to the west.
Australia is a country and continent surrounded by the Indian and Pacific oceans. Its major cities – Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide – are coastal. Its capital, Canberra, is inland. The country is known for its Sydney Opera House, the Great Barrier Reef, a vast interior desert wilderness called the Outback, and unique animal species like kangaroos and duck-billed platypuses.
London, Ontario's Woodland Cemetery Celebrates Canada 150

Painting a picture of what it was like to live in London at the time of Confederation. Telling stories of families and individuals buried at Woodland, who were part of the mosaic of the City of London in 1867.
Victoria(red)/Waterloo(blue) Tunnels in Liverpool (Mk II)
There are a pair of disused tunnels that run from Edge Hill to the Waterfront at the North Docks. it was closed in 1972, but the tunnels and the multiple air vents of the Victoria Tunnel (red) remain. This video flies over the route of the tunnels, stopping along the way to look at the vents. This second version has been made, because we missed out a vent (oups!) and to add images of each vent. Enjoy!

Terracotta Army: The greatest archaeological find of the 20th century - BBC News
In March 1974, Chinese farmers digging a well unearthed the greatest archaeological find of the century - the buried Terracotta Army. After coming across a life-sized human head made of clay in Xi’an, China, archaeologists were called in to investigate. What they found was extraordinary. Thousands of life-like terracotta figures from the Qin dynasty, fashioned 2,000 years ago to protect the First Emperor of China in the afterlife. Archaeologist Li Xiuzhen has worked on the site since the 1980s. Her team was the first to discover that each warrior was originally painted in bright colours.
