Marblehead Massachusetts USA 2013
The video includes video and still photos from Historic Marblehead Massachusetts in the USA. This is a very quaint New England town which unfolds like a history book. There are the historic buildings, distinguished ancestors, parks, forts, an old burial ground, churches, yacht club, sailing and many fine stores. It was a very enjoyable day, which was started at Abbot Hall followed by lunch at The Muffin Shop. While touring the Old Burial Hill, we were intrigued by the headstone art that was carved on many of the Headstones and are included herein. If you always wanted to visit a historic New England town by the sea, but never did, sit back and enjoy.
One of the oldest burying grounds in New England, Burial Hill ~ Plymouth Ma.
Just a very serene walk through a very old historic cemetery. Passengers from the Mayflower actually rest here and you definitely get a sense of genuine peace. Was a beautiful experience to walk among the diverse designs of these old headstones and time to gather thoughts. Happy Exploring ????

Burial Hill at Plymouth
Governor William Bradford, Adoniram Judson, Mayflower voyagers and Plymouth settlers as well as the marker for the original meeting house and fort were what we found on this leg of the journey. We also ended our time here with a surprise visit to our nation's oldest standing wooden courthouse.

Marblehead Massachusetts Tour Part II
Part II begins with OLD BURIAL HILL .. shows that Marblehead was founded in 1639 .. I used to babysit and loved to take the babies/kids up to Old Burial Hill .. you could see the ocean little Harbor from there . the stones were more readable then .. I don't know how we missed Ft. Sewell . other than you cannot drive up there, but there was Canon there .. heard they removed it due to 'kids playing around with it' (Marblehead MA used to be a VERY safe place to live . now, lock the doors .. we never did) .. I wish I had gone back for the 350th Anniversary when they had the USS CONSTITUTION there (first trip since being docked for years near Boston) .. I did visit a submarine that came into port when I was a kidlet .. The USS Constitution (Old Ironsides) hid there way back during war time .. And, then there is Abbott Hall .. there the original painting of the SPIRIT OF '76 is hung .. I took many photos of the inside .. quite a place and always loved to go there as I did many places around Marblehead .. One side is shot from Marblehead Neck . connected by a causeway .. you can see the Lighthouse there .. not the kind anyone could live in . but has been there for a LONG, long time .. we end up at MY home, not in OLD town as most of the video is from . but the Clifton area .. I miss it a lot but have the memories of all the photos I took both of the town and inside & outside of our home . which, btw was built by an engineer & his family (first time too) for their retirement home . about the minute it was finished he was transferred to upstate NY .. was in a few magazines as it had things NO one had .. radiant heat . switches in bedroom to turn things on and off .. .. the radiant heat was also in the driveway and front walk ... however, you had to turn it on the minute you saw a snowflake or it did nothing and heavy snows . forget it .. but it was the first Ranch Style house built .. the cellar was supposed to be bomb proof (was built in early '50s) . .however, there were little windows down there . steel beams .. and the door to the back yard with space under it as well as the inside door . space under it .. steps to the cellar were like they use on ships STEEL .. HUGE home and basement .. 6 or us would roller skate down there! .. Obviously, my Mom loved Blue and the older the house became, the bluer it became .. I could not believe the darkness .. the homes in OLD town were all different colors and built right on the sidewalks .. No yards . we had a HUGE backyard .. and a HUGE Maple Tree (hear it is still there) .. from the outside . could not see there was an upstairs . so it looked like a small house . was NOT at all .. had a LOT of rooms ..
Burial Hill
The oldest marked cemetary in America. Also sight of the first fort, first church, first court house, and school in America. William Bradford's ashes are buried under the tall one towards the begining of this vid.
Unusual hillside cemeteries in Massachusetts, United States.
This video looks at the Hillside Cemetery in North Adams, MA, USA but I saw several others in the area (a hilly but not mountainous region of MA).
What I found interesting was the stepped nature of the cemetery with graves side by side but often several feet above/below each other. The stepped nature of the cemetery does not come out brilliantly in the video but I thought it worth sharing.

Cliff Smith Interview at Redd’s Pond, Marblehead, MA. May 2018
I had called Cliff Smith, an old friend of mine from Marblehead, about interviewing him and he agreed since I convinced him it would be fun. He did not know anything I was going to say until the video cameras were recording. This is the first time I have interviewed anyone and having been on the other side of the mic before, I can tell you how stressful it is not knowing the questions before a microphone is stuck in your face. We were also running late and Cliff was already stressed about getting into a doctor’s appointment in Boston. He was a great sport about it.
